[Game Thread] The Boar Hunt

OOC Unfortunately not but that is a good idea for when I get a little more money. My starting wealth was largely absorbed in buying the bracers of falcon's aim (+1 to ranged attacks, +3 perception and making the bow have 19-20/x3 crit was too good to pass up). Between Jesk and Tobias they can carry 245lbs of extra cargo without having to drag anything.

Tobias collects the tusks and as much meat as he and Jesk can carry. He wraps the meat in hide to provide some protection for the meat and to help hold the bundles of meat together. The meat he cannot carry back with him he hangs from several trees to keep it out of reach of most animals so the farmer can come out for it later. He then properly disposes of the rest of the remains before loading himself and Jesk up and starting the trek back to the farm.

Having gathered up all that you can, you make your way back to the farm house to collect the bounty for all the boars that you had been able to slay. Returning to the old house you don't see the old man anywhere outside, it is getting late so he may be fixing dinner at this time.

OOC something I've done in past games is allow the use of a "hunters tool kit" basically all the tools needed for skinning, and removing such things as tusk, teeth, claws, antlers and what not. giving you a +2 on survival check to perform the task

Tobias commands Jesk to stand by while he knocks on the door.

"Pardon the interruption. I believe your boar problem should be dealt with."

OOC I have skill kits for crafting but figured my survival skill was good enough for what I expected to use it for. I will definitely want to get some more survival/hunting based gear.

A moment after knocking, the old farmer opens the door, Dealt with? I find that hard to believe, but if you were able to kill off a number of them that would be great. Wiping his chin with a napkin, So lets see what you got, how many sets of tusk where you able to collect. Laying out the tusk for him to take count of, Oh, you did get a few of them buggers, noticing the unusually large set. What the hell did those come off of?

"Probably a dire boar, it was big enough anyway. I suspect the other boar followed it's lead, I figure they will be more wary without it around.

I had to leave some meat behind, I set it in the trees so you can probably recover it before any animals can get to it."

Looking over the large tusk, My word, I have never seen such a creature in these woods before, myself and the other folk are lucky that this beast never made its appearance on our farms. I don't imagine there would have been much left. Looking at the number of tusk and thinking for a moment, Good amount, I hope you don't mind waiting till morning for payment. I need to go around to the other homes with the news and collect an equal share from everyone. I'm sure they will be interested to hear about this dire boar, and about the extra meat that you left behind, something like that will be very much appreciated. Thinking a moment more, I don't really have any room in my house but if you don't mind you can sleep in the loft of my barn, there is plenty of hay up there for you to make a bed out of.

Tobias thanks the man for the offer and asks if he has a cold room where he could store his meat overnight. Once the meat is stored away (either in a cold room or hanging in the loft away from vermin and animals) Tobias will settle in for the night.

The old man indicates that he has no cold room that will hold the amount of meat that you have with you. Having hanged the meat in the loft you and Jesk settle down for the night. Come morning you find yourself waking with the light of the sun coming into the barn. Looking around it doesn't appear as if the old man isn't around, his wagon is gone so he must have left before the sun started to peak over the horizon.

Having waited around for awhile, the old man finally returns to the farm. Oh, you're up, I hope I didn't make you wait to long. I had to go around to the farm houses like I mentioned last night to collect your pay and tell them about this dire boar you killed. Getting down from the wagon, he tosses you a bag. Its all there, plus a little extra everyone threw in for the dire boar, count it if you want.

Tobias simply checks the coin type(s) and judges the weight to be right. "I better be off then. Send a message if the boars start acting up again, I'm sure someone would be happy to come out and help again."

Tobias collects his supplies (and meat) and heads off back home.

Having collected the payment and the rest of your belongings you leave the farm to head back to Arciton. Being a bit away from the farm you examine the payment further, noting earlier that the bag did seem heavy for what the payment should have been. Counting out the coins, you find that they gave you 150 gold. This must be because of the bonus for the dire boar that the old farmer had mentioned to you.

Tobias makes for the guild to drop off the meat at the kitchen and

barters for credit towards future meals and/or cash. That done he moves off to write up his report.

Report: The Boar Hunt Mission: The Boar Hunt Subcontractor: Tobias Waine Summary: Local ranchers suffering damages from wild boar requested Guild assistance in clearing them out. I, Tobias, headed out and after talking with the affected party for more details in where the boar may be coming from I went out to find them. I encountered a group of boar from a small hill overlooking a pond and a wooded area at which point I briefly surveyed the surroundings before engaging them with my bow. Utilizing the range and the hill I killed 6 boar before the remainder scattered to the safety of the forest. I then moved in for the proofs of kill, during the collection of which a disturbance in the wood drew my attention to a boar, likely of the dire variety, of significantly larger size. After a brief but bloodly skirmish myself and my loyal companion Jesk where able to take down the beast. Believing this boar to be the likely cause of the increased aggression in the group I collected what I could from the remains and reported back to the client. I hereby swear that the information above is correct to the best of my recollection Tobias Waine

Having taken the meat to the guild kitchen, Bogg the head cook got all excited having seen the large amount of fresh boar meat. Having asked then listened to the tale of your hunt he gets even more excited as he starts to list out all the different dishes he can prepare with the boar meat, as he seems to be lost in himself thinking of what to cook the kitchen helpers take the meat to the cold locker so that they don't spoil.

OOC You don't pay for meals at the Guild Hall, room and meals are given as part of being a member, giving the meat to the kitchen, just saves them from having to purchase from the local butcher. If you want some gold you can take it to the local butcher to sell to him

OOC Meh, not worth it. It never hurts to have the kitchen happy with you, it's a good way to get the good stuff come meal time or get something decent at non-standard times.
