You like me! You really like me!
This group looks like more fun than a shotgun barrel full of monkeys. I will be your resident diva, gender bending the classic noir torch singer archetype and getting them framed for murder...most foul! Man, I am gonna love this game.

And I, the broken-down tough guy with a dark secret.
(What with the holiday this weekend, I'm not likely to get much of anything done character-building wise until Monday....) |

That's 4/5...
I am interested i thoughts on how you would all like to get engaged as a party. While I am amenable to intertwined solo stories, I would prefer if we came together as a team, initially. One of my performers comes with an already-set hook, being framed for the murder. I can fairly easily engage the PI; I think I am hiring the PI to clear our framed performer. My two tough guys are the hardest, and my spy/thespian easier but not yet clearly linked. I am assuming Army still wants to rock the big dumb tough guy, but I guess I should also say, I'm open to fresh pitches if you want to change everything up. |

Concerned fellow performer from the Stage and Artist set?

That's plausible, though I'm not sure how the concern goes deep enough to devote the next X weeks of your life toward unraveling the mystery -- especially when there's a pretty clear suspect. Maybe we can develop this angle a bit. Are you a friend to Dimitri? Or perhaps Niccolo? Why don't you believe it was Dimitri?

Unsolicited idea: Niccolo intended to retire and bequeath the theatre to St. Claire, but now the theatre's been burnt to the ground and the paperwork's gone missing.

Well, as genuine or less plausible as the "concern" may be. This is obviously a mystery and almost as obviously tied into another mystery. Tryste MIGHT do it just for the information and a potential market for said information later.
Tryste would know most performers at least by reputation. Hell he might even be implicated as a matter of professional jealousy. Not as the main perpetrator perhaps but as an accomplice or co-conspirator? Alternately he could be tasked to the investigation by someone who could help his "Career" a good deal or damage it even more.

Let me think here....
"Her name was Aevelyn. She was famous, in her day. Voice like an angel, body like...well, seeing as how I'm a gentleman, I ain't gonna say what her body was like. Even after what happened to her, she couldn't bear to leave the theater. Did what needed doing...sewed costumes, mainly, but any of the odd jobs that needed doing? She did. Aevelyn died in that fire. But she wasn't rich, was she? Wasn't important. Me, I'm the only guy who actually gives a damn." ...or... "Ah, Jakob Wikke. Here you are at last." Morgan Molitor's smile was like that of a snake; it never quite reached his eyes. "I've a job for you, Wikke. You've heard about the theater fire, yes? Excellent. This little fire has cost me, Wikke. Not dearly, no. I had a small stake in the theater, being as I am a patron of the arts. But this fire? It's an affront, Wikke. And I cannot afford to let it go unanswered. I want answers, and I want you to obtain them for me. In your...usual fashion, shall we say?" (Don't know if either works, but the first idea is the one that's closest to what I'd like. An actual emotional tie of some sort.) |

Hmm, the theater thing seemed like a slam dunk.
I don't really see a rivalry between them, as they have considerably different performance forms. If that's the preferred route it could possibly arise from Tryste's connection to Niccolo, if one exists. Niccolo backed out on a contract with Dimitri and earned his ire, so that could roll over to someone known to associate with the man. As far as a friendship, it would be easy enough to say that they've associated in the artist scene and been friendly based on their mutual struggle with it. It's not a great emotional investment for Tryste but we can work up something deeper like a childhood friendship that survived the years if that is the route he wants to take.

Dimitri and Tryste can easily be friendly acquaintances with only the occasional jealousy over a favored patron or wench I'd imagine. If you want a good hook, Dimitri might be aware of the very rough and lawless years that allowed Tryste to survive from being thrown out of his pampered lifestyle to live on the streets with no support at an early age. Skullduggery and scandalous ties could very well lose the thespian some of the reputation he has worked to rebuild after his mother's scandal and death.
