Harsk & Trynne
left-aligned image
Taking a customarily-long dwarven swig of mead, Harsk nods gruffly to Ban's sentiment. Flecks of mead drip from his white beard, as the wolf Trynne licks his own canine lips.

"Well now, I'll be 'appy fer ta 'elp ya at havin' a-nudder go at de castle," the druidic dwarf says with resolve. "You good folks 'elped Trynne and I out of a tight spot wid dose spiders. We're it not fer us showin' up when ya did, we'd be goners but fer sure.

"R-r-right, Trynne?"
Harsk pats his wolf upon his massive canine head, as though waiting for Trynne to elicit a verbal response.

"Now, i 'ave bus'ness of meh own, jus' outside de castle. N' meh-be I can petition fer ye good folks fer ta 'elp wild meh own task later. But dat can wait til af'erwards, if we get through this first order of bus'ness. Fer now, ya 'ave meh 'ammer, n' Tyrnne's fang."

Keloryn Roloval
left-aligned image

Keloryn gathered his books and stood from the table. "Right, I believe we're all in agreement then. If you'll excuse me, I need to rest and prepare for tomorrow." The elf made his way to his room and collapsed unceremoniously on his bed, completely spent from the day's events.

As Keloryn excuses himself, Lady Sybill moves on to other tables. With a kind ear she hears complaints, greetings, and monotonous stories without revealing an ounce of impatience. However you still catch her glancing at each of you occasionally with some concern. She notices that the eager band of young adventurers that left that morning has returned with less enthusiasm. None of you are even sitting at the same table. She thinks that perhaps she is reading too much into that, or perhaps the two new additions could help the group to succeed. Ever the optimist, she goes on about her night and looks forward to the next day's results.

The next morning, you all meet outside the tavern at dawn. Haarsk has little trouble tracing their path back through the forest, past the quarry, and to the clearing where Castle Brockendale still manages to stand. Little has changed since the previous day. The walls are still sporting several spider webs, and you're sure you saw a spider disappear back into the hole it had retreated into before. The two large doors creak and sway in the wind, but still manage to obscure your sight into the building itself. All the same, the noises coming from within seem chilling and unnatural.

OOCNo active combat, so anyone can post. The map image links to the site if you want to position yourself or anything. Hopefully this can start getting interesting again!! Oh, also feel free to post anything from the night before or let me know if you went shopping or anything...

Ban

Peering at the creaking doors, and feeling a little anxious with the encounter with the spiders still fresh in his mind, Ban coughs slightly before suggesting " Perhaps one of us with experience with traps and other such dangers should be the first, I mean I am willing to take point, but I uh feel I may not be the most suitable to uh take the lead as things are uhm possibly delicate inside, not that I'm uh nervous or worried or concerned at all." Wiping no small amount of sweat from his face as he finishes, glancing pleadingly at the other members of the party.

Harsk & Trynne
left-aligned image
With an ambivalent dwarven shrug, Harsk approaches the castle gate. And, with the canine Trynne in tow.

"Aye, let's be mindf o' trappin's n' such. I s'pose we bes' be takin' care wid our entry n' all. Any se'jestions, udder dan at press forth?"

Stepping to the entrance, Harsk and Trynne look for the most optimal way inside.

Keloryn mumbled under his breath and his eyes flashed with Detect Magicarcane energy. He followed Harsk to the entrance, but let the hardier dwarf take the lead. "I'll keep my eyes open for anything magical or

Castle Brockendale

There are no visible traps, nor magic to detect. Trynne picks up the scent of something that she doesn't recognize... While inspecting the door more closely, the space between the doors is large enough to peer through. You see a hallway with a door on either side, leading to a larger room.

Sensinn OroSensinn looked curiously between each of his companions as they seemed less than eager to actually open the manor's doors. And they were apparently afraid of traps? From who, a ghost? Oh well, he supposed if there was actually any danger, that the one in the heaviest danger should be heaving in first.

"Um, everyone, I very much doubt that the previous residents, much less ghosts would trap the front door."

The warrior muses, moving in front and pushing open the door with the scabbard of his hilted greatsword.

"After all, I find it somewhat more worrying that each of you would put traps on your own front doors! Most people don't wish to maim any would-be guests, yes? I'm fairly certain that human customs don't differ that much from my parents'."

The door creaking open in front of him, Sensinn took the first step inside, if only to assuage any fears the others may have of the building.

"My father always taught me that you put traps on the places where people weren't supposed to enter through..."
The heavyset paladin mumbles to himself.

Harsk & Trynne
left-aligned image
The druidic dwarf nods to Sensinn agreeably. "Good point," Harsk astutely replies as the lizardfolk crosses the threshold.

"Come Trynne," the dwarf says to the wolf. As the canine Trynne scurries into the antechamber, Harsk...gives chase, as though playing a game to catch up with the wolf! "Duma, day," Harsk utters.

And dropping a speck of dirt upon the dungeon floor, Harsk suddenly gains a spring in his dwarven step!

Ban

With a deep breath to steady himself, Ban hurries after the others, preferring not to lose sight of the group.

"I just hope there are no more of those damned spiders inside."

He mutters to himself as he scurries after the dwarf, shivering at the thought of another encounter with the webbing.

Keloryn Roloval
left-aligned image

Keloryn followed the others into the castle, beginning to get lost in his thoughts as he examined the new surroundings. He wasn't so worried about traps as he was the possibility of missing something interesting.

He checked the first door on the right hand side of the entrance to see where it led.

As the large lizardfolk's scabbard touches the great doors of the castle, you can see dust and deteriorated remains of wood particles cascade down to the ground. With what he though was a gentle effort, Sensinn almost removes the door from its hinges. Somehow it stays upright, the opening barely wide enough for his armored form to pass through. Not eager to press his luck, he strides into the remnants of Castle Brockendale. The interior isn't exactly dark. There are enough cracks and holes in the walls to allow some light in, but Sensinn still has trouble making out many details and stays near the door for the moment.

Harsk is next through the door. Dwarves usually being more comfortable underground, he has no trouble seeing the expansive throne room at the end of the hallway. Even in its current state of neglect, it is a sight to behold. The flooring tiles are ornate and beautiful, even with weeds and vegetation sprouting from between them. The throne sits upon a dais that is raised higher than the dwarf is tall. Drawn in to admire the workmanship, he moves to the end of the hall and ignores his partner's whimper as she sniffs below a door in the hall. The scent she noticed from beyond the main doors is stronger here. Trynne still doesn't recognize it, and this troubles her.

Ban makes his way into the dim lighted hallway, keeping an eye on his companions. He has trouble seeing, but can make out the hallway well enough.

right-aligned image
Keloryn, having a dangerous combination of absent-mindedness and curiosity, ignores the strange odor, the wolf, and the draw of the throne room to open a hallway door. He has no trouble seeing in the low light, but he might wish that weren't the case. The door opens into what was once a kitchen. There is still a hearth in the far wall and cooking ware strewn about. It's difficult to get much more detail from the surroundings due to a large, slimy, crawling monstrosity. It probably would have heard you approach the castle if not for the fact that it is currently devouring a giant spider. It notices the door open and lifts its upper body, turning to examine the elf that just entered his home.
OOCBan and Keloryn can act now. Sensinn, Harsk, and Trynne need initiative rolls. Thanks!

Harsk & Trynne

The canine’s ears perhaps draw straight back. A sign of trepidation, a foreboding notion, born of Trynne’s keen sense of scent. What an incredible smell he’d discovered.

"Good boy Trynne," Harsk exclaims. "Seems we’ve comp’ny, lads!" Drawing his wooden club, the dwarf utters a druidic phrase. “Shoonty, a-WAY-tha.”

FLASH

And in an instant, Harsk’s club transforms into a rather imposing shillelagh! A fine tool of hardened nature, perfect for to assault aberrations where they stand!

"Let’s do this," the druidic dwarf injects.

Keloryn cursed as his eyes fell upon the creature, and he quickly took a few steps back. He reached into his pouch and pulled out a handful of colored sand, before saying, "Nobody move." The wizard waited for the creature to approach while trying to even his breathing.

Sensinn OroSensinn half turned to face the door as he heard the elf speak. From the glance he caught of the right room's interior, this estate appeared to have quite a strange range of inhabitants. Honestly, he was starting to believe that the place was more infested than haunted with what he knew about it. Oh well, he could handle either.

"There are days when I question what life choices I've made to end up in situations like these, Keloryn."

Sensinn removed his sword and dropped it's scabbard where he was, he would just pick it up later. He stepped past the side of Keloryn and moved to the door before bringing up his sword up and to his side, ready to swing downwards. He looked the part of an executioner with his blade raised by his head, and theat was exactly the idea behind him waiting off to the side of the door.

"But I wouldn't trade it for the world, mage."
