Thanks for the invite and hey there Unforgiven and everyone else.

I'm working on Rahela, my weird oracle. I tend to make non-magic users and so I'd like some thoughts on my spell selection.

I get a bonus spell of CAUSE FEAR, which is cool.
I can choose to have access to all INFLICT or CURE spells as I advance. I prefer cure as a player but I feel Rahela should be talented against her will at INFLICTING so I chose that.

Those are all settled.

I get 2 1st divine spells and I chose CURE LIGHT WOUNDS but I'm iffy on my 2nd choice of BANE.

Any thoughts on spells that would help the campaign more or the team as unit rather than bane?

Here are my other options:

1st-Level Cleric Spells
  • Bane: Enemies take –1 on attack rolls and saves against fear.
  • Bless: Allies gain +1 on attack rolls and saves against fear.
  • Bless Water: Makes holy water.
  • Cause Fear: One creature of 5 HD or less flees for 1d4 rounds.
  • Command: One subject obeys selected command for 1 round.
  • Comprehend Languages: You understand all spoken and written languages.
  • Curse Water: Makes unholy water.
  • Deathwatch: Reveals how near death subjects within 30 ft. are.
  • Detect Chaos/Evil/Good/Law: Reveals creatures, spells, or objects of selected alignment.
  • Detect Undead: Reveals undead within 60 ft.
  • Divine Favor: You gain +1 per three levels on attack and damage rolls.
  • Doom: One subject takes –2 on attack rolls, damage rolls, saves, and checks.
  • Endure Elements: Exist comfortably in hot or cold regions.
  • Entropic Shield: Ranged attacks against you have 20% miss chance.
  • Hide from Undead: Undead can't perceive one subject/level.
  • Magic Stone: Three stones gain +1 on attack, deal 1d6 +1 damage.
  • Magic Weapon: Weapon gains +1 bonus.
  • Obscuring Mist: Fog surrounds you.
  • Protection from Chaos/Evil/Good/Law: +2 to AC and saves, plus additional protection against selected alignment.
  • Remove Fear: Suppresses fear or gives +4 on saves against fear for one subject + one per four levels.
  • Sanctuary: Opponents can't attack you, and you can't attack.
  • Shield of Faith: Aura grants +2 or higher deflection bonus.
  • Summon Monster I: Summons extraplanar creature to fight for you.


Many of them fit Rahela.

I get 5 0 level and I went with:
  • DETECT MAGIC
  • READ MAGIC
  • PURIFY FOOD/DRINK
  • STABILIZE
  • GUIDANCE

I was wondering if read/detect magic were a waste with Elentiri coming aboard?

Do you think any of these would be better?

0-Level Cleric Spells (Orisons)
  • Bleed: Cause a stabilized creature to resume dying.
  • Create Water: Creates 2 gallons/level of pure water.
  • Detect Poison: Detects poison in one creature or object.
  • Light: Object shines like a torch.
  • Mending: Makes minor repairs on an object.
  • Resistance: Subject gains +1 on saving throws.
  • Virtue: Subject gains 1 temporary hp.


Just checking for ideas. I'll still end up making the decision myself of course, balancing character/needs.

Hey all - very excited to be selected for this one and looking forward to playing with and getting to know this group.

Scorch's application and character sheet are up. I am assuming the new-comers are starting at 0XP, but let me know if I missed something and that's not the case. I've read through the house rules and made my character sheet (linked to character's name in ap). I'll get current on the game threads. Will there be a separate one introducing us?

@nikostopheles: Just a heads up, your character link didn't work for me. And in Korvosa, I don't think detect poison would be terrible orison to have handy. Since Rahela doesn't look like she'll be heavily armored, Entropic Shield, Shield of Faith, and Obscuring Mist might not be bad. I tend to think defensively when it comes to low-level spellcasters in urban terrain.

I would do create water or detect poison and light over guidance and stabilize myself, guidance is only a +1 attack, and stabilize can be done with a heal check.

for first levels I would recommend shield of faith, bless, or prot evil. Reason being, first level cleric spells are pretty much crap as far as offense. They have some sub par debuffs but that is about it. They do however, have very good buffs, so I usually get buffs for spells, even when playing an evil cleric.

Quick question, Khalil.

I have Orcish as a language for Scorch because them's the rules, but that doesn't make much sense given his background. He might have picked up some Varisian as a toddler and from the Varisian population in the city. Are you good with me trading Orcish for Varisian?

EDIT: And my die roll for L2 hp is at the bottom of my ap on the Korvosa's Heroes thread. I think I'll keep the roll.

I think my sheet is good to go, I added the background skills and took the half hp roll since I rolled crap for lvl 2 hp and changed my non prd trait. It should be good to go now.

Good points, guys. I already have heal skill so stabilize is a bit silly. I’m rather indifferent on the 0 level spells. I don’t feel any are particularly good or bad roleplay wise for Rahela.

As for 1st level. I’m not enthused about the shield spells RP-wise even if they’re strategically good, which they are. Obscuring Mist is cool in that I can imagine her generating it and being the creepy weirdo in the mist.

I’ve always liked Protection from Evil, mostly because I always play goody two shoes since that’s what I like basically.

I’m tinkering.

I’m curious what LeDragon and Ghost6442 think RE: spells, especially since they’ve already seen the tone/feel/needs for this campaign.

@ruffdove - I'm good with Varisian as a start language for Scorch.

@Unforgiven - The Drawback pride, where is that from ?

@nickos - I've always thought mending is underused. Both that and ghost sound increase with your level. I'd check into the heal skill. I believe if you don't have kits you take a -2. Stabilize is a quick way to not have to worry about the roll. But upto you. That is experience as a player not DM. The detect magic and read magic are almost always a must I think. And having a form of light source without taking up a hand space is nice.

1st-Level Cleric Spells
  • Bane: a -1 to attack is the same as a +1 to all our AC's and that -1 to fear saves? good if you have cause fear! The only problem with Bane is enemy's get a saving throw to negate it.
  • Bless: better than Magic Weapon as it targets multiple allies at once, does stack with magic weapon, great at all levels!
  • Bless Water: conditionally useful
  • Cause Fear: You already have this? (points at bonus spell)
  • Command: This, if you can get it to go off, is really useful! It can be used to disarm, knock prone or just have them walk through the party taking all the AoO. (Drop is my fav)
  • Comprehend Languages: Useful, situational, better left to the high int Wiz with ranks in Linguistics
  • Curse Water: What are you going to use it for?
  • Deathwatch: You can do this with a heal check
  • Detect Chaos/Evil/Good/Law: Paladin's job.
  • Detect Undead: great at higher levels if your hunting undead, situational and sometimes it's best to just walk into these things.
  • Divine Favor: Do you intend to fight?
  • Doom: great if they fail the save
  • Endure Elements: Situational but very useful regardless
  • Entropic Shield: If you intend to stay out of melee range this is pretty awesome
  • Hide from Undead: Very useful if it was to come to the zombie apocalypse.
  • Magic Stone: or just carry a crossbow?
  • Magic Weapon: Doesn't stack with Masterwork so after 1st level this sucks!
  • Obscuring Mist: great for covering up a retreat or other sneaky activities.
  • Protection from Chaos/Evil/Good/Law: Take this, Take this now! This Spell has so much win!
  • Remove Fear: I can think of times when this might be useful..., but it would be rare.
  • Sanctuary: If you intend to only buff, debuff, summon or heal you want this cast first (can't touch this. doo do doo do, can't touch this)
  • Shield of Faith: Win! though later once people have magical rings and such it won't be useful at all as deflection bonus' don't stack. So if you have the ability to trade it out later I would suggest taking this as it's boss at low levels.
  • Summon Monster I: unless you want it to prank people wait till you have SM2

  • DETECT MAGIC - Good
  • READ MAGIC - Good
  • PURIFY FOOD/DRINK - Average, good if you're paranoid.
  • STABILIZE - Poor
  • GUIDANCE - Average, if you don't intend to fight, it gives you something to do.

Possibly? Though it does mean you can detect in multiple directions at once. Regardless your character likely knew them before they met.

0-Level Cleric Spells (Orisons)
  • Bleed - Or just kick/stab them?
  • Create Water - So much Win
  • Detect Poison - How paranoid do you want to be?
  • Light - A classic and useful spell
  • Mending - So so so useful! This would be the first 0 level spell I would pick if I couldn't get prestidigitation.
  • Resistance - Meh
  • Virtue - Meh
  • Spark - snap your fingers light a candle - profit! or just look cool, does have other uses. Pyromania!

Hello. That is a good question and one I've been pondering over the past few weeks. I definitely don't want to slow things down so I will not be doing an parallel thread. Generally after each section of a module I make a new game thread so you can expect that.

I mentioned in the recruitment page that your characters would be working as either a mercenary or guardsmen for Korvosa's guard and I intend to go down that route so you can expect that.

It's has been a couple of weeks since the death of the king and when the riots started. Things have calmed down considerably now, but every so often riots break out. The guard is overtasked, and still generally unsafe to travel alone in the less patrolled areas of the city.

Anyways I wanted to give each of you new comers a scenario a that would lead into a morning meeting with the field Marshall.

Also based off of your application backgrounds perhaps all of you had already been assigned a task together and are ready to receive your next set of orders.


What would you guys prefer?

@Khalil - If something looks wrong to you with stats, lemme know and I'll fix it.

RE: the Set-up. I'm with Ghost6442. I'd rather our PCs meet for the first time in-game. It allows for the unpredictable.

Granted Elentiri met Rahela 10 yrs ago in a memorable way, but for a human that's a long time and so they'll be semi-strangers. Rahela would recognize Elentiri but possibly not vice versa.

Now, this doesn't have to be our first day. All the newbs could have joined up at different times and were maybe assigned to different parts of the city. Rahela lives on the south side near the cemetery so maybe she was assigned there. Just an idea.

I'm good however you want to do it, though.

UpdateOkay, I finished, and posted in the Heroes forum. Like I said in my app, this is my first Pathfinder build, so please don't kill me if I did something wrong.
