Kazgar drags items out of the sack that explain why it was so hard to haul in. The sack holds some rope, a gag, a rusted lantern, a trio of heavy knives, and a rusted shovel.

The coracle itself contains an oar, a moldy leather travel bag with a damp artisan’s outfit (a shirt, breeches, shoes, and a cloth apron) inside, and a vile object—what appears to be a detached human face.

Keeshraal "More clues to the impersonator? All stowed near the sighting. We should haul all this over to our boat before checking the rest of the island. Should one of us stay with it there?"

You're actually all in corarles yourselves. You have one 'guide' but the full party took three coracles to get you here.

"Hmm, disturbed graves, a shovel, a lantern, and a face. Maybe we should dig up the graves to see what is there. There's a story in there somewhere. Any other ideas?" Chemistry asks the others.

She volunteers to help take the stuff over to the other boats. Once there, she tells them they've found some clues, but more investigation is needed. Then she asks Lazne, "When did all this happen? How long did the attacks last, and when was it over with the caiman killing the beast?"

Lazne tell Chemistry, The attacks began about a year ago, and gradually got worse. In all over 10 villagers were killed. Well, they're missing and we assume killed. Less than a month ago was when we thought the Beast had been killed by the blood caiman.

He relates a story to you:
Lazne claims that at first the Beast only took lone villagers who were outside at night, but soon became bolder and began to attack houses. These attacks only ended when Lazne organized the villagers and set a trap for the Beast. He recalls that night well. The villagers were lying in wait for the Beast, who attacked just after nightfall. Armed with torches, the locals attacked and wounded the creature—a huge, hulking brute about 7 feet tall. The Beast took to the water, but the swampers gave chase in their boats, pursuing it to the village boneyard, where it was attacked by a blood caiman. Lazne grins as he recalls how the Beast yelled oaths and curses that even the worst whore in Lepidstadt would blush to say as the gator attacked it, and describes the deep bite wound the gator made on the Beast’s shoulder as it dragged the Beast under the water. Although the Beast’s blood tainted the villagers’ burial ground, forcing them to abandon it and build another, the swampers thought it a small price to pay for the thing’s death. Hearing that the Beast actually survived was all that Lazne needed to tell his story to the authorities, and he’s looking forward to seeing it burn.

Chemistry nods at the story, which Lazne mostly told them already. But what she wanted to know was how long ago Lazne's beast was taken under. A month ago.

More searching is needed, as there are no definitive answers yet.

"Thanks. Lazne. We need to keep looking around a bit more. Could you wait for us?"

Lazne agrees to wait, but insists you all return before dark. Mid to late afternoon now.

Chemistry thanks Lazne and goes back to the group, suggesting they keep on their circuit of the small island.

In your 'circuit' you see that there are approximately 40 grave markers, but only about 6 of them are 'depressions' in the ground.

And if you're organizing a full on 'search' crew, so to speak, I need perception rolls from everyone.
