The hand has no affect on the hole...it's spider shaped after all, it won't even fit! The hole is only a few inches deep, space for a spider shaped symbol or key. The object you need must be somewhere in the forest, perhaps it's time to bite the bullet and go searching, just be careful you can get back to the door...

Seeing that he was mistaken Hubris pulls out his dagger and frays the hem of his clones Robe. Tying the thick thread to his belt he goes searching for the spider shaped key into the woods.

Without much indication where he is meant to be going, Hubris decides to walk directly away from the doorway, a constantly unraveling string making a trail for him to return by. The premonition brought on by the body of his clone keeps Hubris' mind alert, and it's being on edge that stops him from making a fatal mistake. A flicker of light stops the young wizard in his tracks, and he all but throws himself backwards to stop himself from taking another step. He was about to walk straight into a giant spider's web! The owner of which hisses madly in frustration, and points it's abdomen at you, resorting to a more direct approach to try and kill you.

The missile slams into the spider, leaving a large scorched wound on it's side, only moments before it retaliated by firing a sticky web towards the wizard. It slams into him, sticking the staff to his side and his feet to the floor. The spider sways slightly, the wound you inflicted on it must have caused alot of damage...it's also at this point you notice the spider shaped pendant it seems to be guarding, which is stuck up higher in the web.

As the spider scrambles down the web towards him, Hubris has to gesture with his left hand to cast his spell, thanking whichever teacher forced the students to practice this. Another bolt of pure force smacks into the spider, just moments before it was about to bit into his exposed neck with those vicious fangs. With a quiet hiss the spider falls off the web, hitting the ground and oozing green ichor. It remains still, and Hubris lets out a sigh of relief. However he's just wasted two of his more powerful spells, and is still stuck in this damn web...unless he has some magic or mundane way of getting free from it's sticky grip, it'll take a few minutes to get loose, and then more to reach the pendant stuck 15ft high in the web.

Reaching into the folds of his robe Hubris pulls out his dagger and begins cutting away the entangling web. The tedious seconds tick by as he finishes he sighs and looks at the pendant in the web. Taking a small bit of web that he has cut free, he wraps the dagger around the tip of his quarterstaff creating a crude spear, and jostles the pendant free.
"Well Chirpy" he addresses the adolescent owl that managed to stay attached to his shoulder "Lets move on to the next test, here have bit of spider leg." As he feeds a spider leg to the owl he places the pendant into the lock and waits for the results. |

Chirpy greedily gulps down the spider leg, and then preens himself happily. All told it takes you another five minutes to free yourself, get the pendant and return to the doorway...by now you think it's been over ten minutes, and your head is starting to feel a bit light, vision swimming if you move too fast. The pendant fits into the lock easily, and then springs back out again as the door slides open, evidently you're meant to keep it.
Cautiously Hubris steps through the door and into the next room, which not surprisingly isn't the previous room even if logic dictates that what should be there. After taking a few steps, the owl again undergoes a sudden growth spurt. It's now full size, and hoots loudly in your ear, begging for another piece of spider. What's really interesting however is the room in which you now stand. You're in another plain stone room with the open ceiling, roughly 30ft by 30ft. In the middle of the floor is a piece of rope that disappears into a hole in the wall, currently lying slack on the floor. |

"Well Chirpy my growth spurting friend, I think I am meant to pull on this rope. Say is your head light or is it just me?" he asked the bird sarcastically.
Walking over to the rope he gives it a good pull with both hands. |

The moment you touch the rope the door slams shut behind you, causing both you and Chirpy to jump. However you're far more concerned with the sudden movement of the rope, as you're pulled towards the wall. Something is pulling on the other end...and you notice that the wall is suddenly not quite so solid afterall...it has an odd shimmer to it, like it's not completely opaque.
