Name: Silanea Pharn

Gender/Race: Female/Drow

Class: Wizard/Evocation

Appearance: A lovely dress that emphasizes her beautiful dark skin. Her purple eyes shine with intelligence. Her whitish blonde hair speaks to a heritage that comes from a high elf parent somewhere along the line. Her delicate glasses perfectly frame her face, show off her purple eyes, and are often fiddled with by her delicate and perfectly manicured fingers.

Personality: Silanea indulges in the pleasures of the world around her, but at the same time she tends towards the more expensive pleasures. She often comes off as haughty and erudite looking down on others who are lesser than she is. In addition she has few cares as to the morality or immorality of a situation beyond whether or not it is illegal or illogical.

Attitude towards family: Silanea does not understand her family members power games and the like. That said she cares deeply for each and every member of her family and would do nearly anything to assist them.

Attitude towards non drow and surface: Silanea is quite interested in non-drow and the surface in a "I must study it" sort of way. She does see such people as beneath her but she's more likely to ask about their culture, or perform experiments than anything else.

Backstory: Silanea was a librarian at Sorcere but not exactly a top student. Oh she certainly excelled in her studies and the like but, as with all things in drow society, being a top student meant politics and backstabbing. She never really could bring herself to actually be involved in such things unless she was directly attacked. The Library was her go to place to be alone and avoid the dark plots of other members of Sorcere. This worked for quite a number of years until she became a source of knowledge that most young students would come to and then her family was exiled.

Alignment: Neutral

Edited: Edited to fix her last name to fit with the family listed in the advertisement.

Is the 7th level total ECL or just class levels? Drow have a LA +2 naturally.
Are you allowing half-drow as a race?
Are you allowing LA buyoff?

EDIT: seriously considering a good half-drow character - could be the reason for the attack on the house, after all.

In the Miscellaneous Game Advertising thread you have for this game, you seem to have indicated you haven't learned 5e yet. Why switch systems?

There appeared to be more interest in this game being played in the 5th edition. As for my level of knowledge on 5th ed. I have enough knowledge as a player to believe I can do it...Not quite comfortable as a DM.

I do have years of DM experience in DnD and ADnD from 2ed and 3.5 that I can keep the story flowing though there might be some technical mechanics in 5th edition that I might miss. As long as we don't have rules lawyers dictating every move the story should be fine.

Under 3.5 rules, I would be interested. As 5e, I would not.

When you decide which system, please let folks know. I don't want to waste time and clutter a thread only to find out we switched horses.

Understood. I really don't understand why people are so set on 5th ed. Personally I think 3.5 was easier and provided more options at diversity. But if this is the direction the population is going, I have to adjust what I like and provide what the community wants.

TBH doesn't seem like much of anyone is really interested. Too bad because there was a lot of intrigue in the story.

Absolutely interested - if it's 5e.
There's no ECL for drow in 5e btw.

I'm pretty sure that Claw and Dirk know at least the basics of the story already (though it has been 4 or 5 years).

Scheyana T'uan

Basic InfoName: Scheyana T'uan
Race: Drow
Class: Fighter
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

AppearanceLong flowing hair as white as snow frame eyes of steel grey -- eyes that would tear your soul out as readily as her own hands would tear your heart out. Dressed in armour of obsidian, and standing at an atypical height of almost six-foot tall, Scheyana certainly stands out amongst a crowd. This can either be a benefit or a hindrance depending on her mood and her objectives at any given time.

She is certainly beautiful, and her beauty carries with it an almost exotic aura. There is a tantalising hint of the enigma that is Scheyana swirling around her and carrying itself with her as she travels. Yet there is certainly no hiding her almost perpetual sneer as she looks at you as one would look at a gnat or insect with barely concealed contempt. Despite her fall and exile from the T'uan family, Scheyana still carries herself with the aura of one who demands that you obey her every whim and command.

Scheyana always ensures that she is fully clothed at all times with her armour or through other appropriate clothing. On the rare occasions that her skin is not fully covered, there can be seen faint traces of scar tissue on her back. Any attempts to learn more about the scars though are met with stone cold silence -- and indeed there are few better ways to alienate the proud warrior than to attempt to question her on things that she does not desire to divulge.

She carries at her side a curved scimitar made of obsidian. This blade has bathed itself in the blood of her enemies on many occasions -- it will bathe itself in the blood of many many more before its mistress's life ends.

PersonalityYou would think that given the circumstances that have led Scheyana to this point, exiled and houseless irrespective of the name that she continues to carry at her own risk that she would have learned the fine art of humility.

However, she has not.

Scheyana is the very essence of hubris, distilled into its most potent form and injected into the drow blood that courses through her veins. You see, Scheyana believes herself both possessed of, and entitled to, greatness. Never one for machinations or subtlety, Scheyana interests have always lain with martial pursuits, particularly that of the blade. Scheyana was always keen to study and train with the Soldier Captains of her house, and under their tutelage she learned well, up to the point she could hold herself in combat with one of them.

Whatever she wanted, she took through brute force -- her desires were her very right. What Scheyana asked for, she got, as her arrogance and the force of her personality demanded it so.

Yet there was something different about Scheyana -- something that she did not possess that the others in this wicked society did have in spades. Deep down, Scheyana was different from her kin, though she would never recognise, or admit it, even if she did. Scheyana was not inherently evil. She did not have the killer spirit that those around her did have. When her enemies were beaten, Scheyana would often stay the killing blow and show unexpected compassion and mercy. She only killed out of necessity, rather than from the pleasure in doing so.

And as much as she expected to be obeyed, her gargantuan sized ego demanding no less, deep within her there was a heart of compassion and gentleness that others around her did not have.

Scheyana has no compunctions in putting herself first in all things -- yet beneath her rough exterior, she does care and she would never genuinely put someone she considers a friend in any danger if it could be avoided.

BackstoryScheyana was the firstborn daughter of the T'uan family. Being the heir apparent of Matron Mother T'oyal T'uan, great things of Scheyana were expected. And, for a time, it looked like Scheyana would fulfil those expectations. Being both bright and talented, Scheyana was a protege. No matter the ask, she picked it up and learned quickly. It seemed like the girl had the favour of Lolth herself.

The first of the cracks came just after she reached her twentieth naming day. Scheyana's mother expected her daughter to begin to come into Lolth's power through the form of divination magic, as she had herself and as was expected of the first born of the T'uan family as generations had done likewise previously. Yet, the years continued to go by and Scheyana, for all her skill-at-arms, never showed or developed any magical gifts of divination beyond those that were the heritage of her family and her birthright.

Secondly, and even more concerningly for the Matron Mother, Scheyana did not seem to possess the sort of fire that she would expect one of her station to have. She showed mercy and compassion to the fallen, and empathy to the weak. Despite T'oyal's attempts to drive these weak qualities out of her daughter, she could not do so, and indeed, the scars from said attempts Scheyana still hides on her back under armour or clothes carefully chosen to conceal her skin save her head and neck.

Yet, irrespective of her perceived weaknesses in others eyes, Scheyana still possessed the arrogance and ego that one of her station should possess. That arrogance, combined with her penchant for mercy and the lack of ruthlessness, plus her general disinterest in drow politicking and maneuvering were a truly dangerous combination -- and one that would perhaps inevitably lead to her downfall.

Over time, Matron Mother T'oyal grew increasingly frustrated with her daughter, and embarrassed in the light of Scheyana's perceived weaknesses. When rumours began to spread of the weak-willed heir of the T'uan family, and those rumours began to turn into plots against the family, T'oyal knew she had to act. First and foremost she had to preserve her family's status in the eyes of the other drow, and in the eyes of Lolth herself. What was initially seen as Lolth's favour for the girl had changed -- now it was believed that the capricious and whimsical Spider Queen had lost her faith in the eldest child of the T'uan family. T'oyal stripped Scheyana of her right of succession, instead bestowing it on her youngest child, a malicious and unstable woman by the name of Mileena. Scheyana was cast out of the T'uan family. Ironically enough, T'oyal herself could not find the heart to kill her firstborn child, instead casting her out into into exile in the belief that Scheyana would not last long before she was killed.

Yet, it was too late for the T'uan family. Seeing weakness in T'oyal's hesitation and unwillingness to kill Scheyana, the T'uan house was set upon by another drow house and ultimately destroyed.

Ironically by being exiled, Scheyana was spared that fate.

This story sounds vaguely familiar to dungeon we started years back, but then died soon after.

De'lu'mith Kas'ka
right-aligned image

Name: De'lu'mith Kas'ka (literally Information Merchant in the Drow Tongue)

Race/Gender: Male Drow

Class: Great Old One Warlock

Alignment: Lawful Neutral (Will only do cruel things if it would benefit him)

Appearance: Spends his time obscured in some way, shape or form. He usually wraps himself up, so only his eyes and mouth are uncovered enough to see and speak clearly, most often even that is covered by an Illusion of his own making, an Illusion which is in constant flux and entirely dependent on his needs. Whenever and wherever he can, he speaks in a voice that is not even his own, or even one that spills from his own lips! Should a person manage to dig below the layers of illusion and fabric to see the real De'lu'mith, they will find a Nightmare! His skin looks like half-melted wax, with no sign of hair anywhere on his body.

Attitude towards family: They are an asset, until they are not, then they a simply disposable. In the end his "Birth-house" thought him to be disposable, so he merely used it up to benefit himself, and he has not lost a single moment of sleep over it.

Attitude towards non drow: Simple. If they are useful in any way, he can be perfectly charming, if they are not, then he is completely indifferent to them.

Attitude towards surface: Went there once to "talk" to an informant. It was fine, through a simple disguise he was able to walk around freely and.....WHERE IN THE ABYSS IS THE CEILING?

Personality: Practicality above all! Any "friends" that he has are people that he would like to exploit on a long-term basis. While he is entirely capable of taking the lead in things, he is content to let others rush in while he sits back, observing. In a rare moment of him sharing his own personal insights, he stated that this was because: "In Chess, the Pawns move first!"

Backstory: While he had always been considered handsome, his good looks were all he had in his favour. As a Male, he was always considered Inferior to every Female of his House, many of whom were (to his mind) unnecessarily cruel, especially to him. "Kas'ka" his House was called, a word Meaning "Merchant", though nobody outside the House knew why! De'lu'mith knew why. Countless generations ago, his House had made a Pact with an Ancient and inscrutable Entity. Deals with Demons were a matter of course in Menzoberranzan, but House Kas'ka's Deal was with something far stranger, and this something was beyond the so-called pretensions of good or evil.
Deals with this enitity were usually of a personal and seemingly random nature, usually involving a sacrifice of some description. The more personal the sacrifice, the more the Entity gave in return.
On one of these "Deals" De'lu'mith's sister, or cousin (really, family connections were blurry in this family) decided to sacrifice him, which he was obviously less than pleased about.
His relation (could she have even been his Aunt?), fearing the Otherworldly forces, inscribed a chalk circle around herself, to protect her while she made a deal. De'lu'mith spoilt her plan, by deliberately upending a bucket of water on the floor, washing away part of the circle.
"I would like to make a deal with you!" Announced De'lu'mith.
First, you need to, address me by the Name you have already chosen for me, then say what you are willing to give! Came a voice in his head.
"Zhaunil!" He named it, a word meaning "Knowledge!" "I give to you my good looks, and..... THE MIND AND SANITY OF EVERY MEMBER OF MY HOUSE!"
DONE! Was the last thing he heard, before the pain blocked out everything!

He woke to find knowledge swirling round his head, almost threatening to drown him in a Sea of Insanity, and his skin was just ..,featureless!
Plucking out one of the pieces of knowledge he had been given, he wrapped himself in an Illusion and walked past the now gibbering imbeciles that had once claimed themselves as his family.
The cause of the mass-insanity of House Kas'ka was never determined, nevertheless, as the only member of the House left who was not drooling in a corner, De'lu'mith was held accountable. Normally, he would simply have been sacrificed, but the whole affair unnerved even the most ruthless of House Mothers, some of whom had begun to hear whispering in their heads whenever this weird Male was around, so he was instead adopted by House Pharn, whose House Mother believed that their enemies may think twice about attacking them now that they had such an "unknown force" as one of their assets!
