Assault on Origin

Game
Feb 07th 2025, 23h59 EST
Game Name
Game System
Pathfinder
Theme
A Githyanki tale of vengeance and glory
Flavour
Exploration and infiltration with dungeon crawls and intrigue.
Recruiting 1 playerI am recruiting 1 new player for this game.

Your character can either be Githyanki, and a member of the Va'Dok'thra as described in the advert, with the following caveat:

Your character was part of the first Githyanki: squadsarth to explore the ruins of an ancient city known as Athalon. Having discovered the ruins, your sarth explored the subterranean depths of the ruins only to become separated from your group. Eventually, you met Razraël, an insane techno-lich and former native to the city of Athalon. He captured you, tortured you, and has threatened to "make you so much better than you were before."

All you have seen him do is mutilate the other prisoners, of which there are several.

If you prefer not to play Githyanki, you may play as almost any race, and in addition, you can be a member of the native race of the city of Athalon, known as the Athalonians. The Athalonians have preserved the vestiges of ancient Manatech, and will have access to more modern equipment, and can choose to play as a Technician class from the Spheres of Might system, as well as have access to the Tinker Sphere.

I am open to creative ideas.

I am not going to give much time, since timing is crucial for recruitment, in-game.

If it matters to you, current characters are:
  • Mrtyu, played by Begon Ugo, who is a Striker 10 || Conscript 10, specializing in Brute / Wrestling
  • Lyss'quith, played by Admin Dirk, who is a Witch 10 || Alchemist 10 (vancian), specializing in frost
  • Fau Hyrack, played by EvilTedzies, who is a Prodigy 10 || Symbiat 10, specializing in telekinetic tentacles and other shenanigans
  • Kul'ko'dar Da'ha'mab, played by Keante, who is an Armorist Spirit Blade (permanent weapon) 10 || Incanter 10, specializing in buffs (Characters who play Githyanki will know Kul, and will have served in his sarth during the initial exploration of the ruins.)
  • Qen, played by Unforgiven, who is a Kineticist || Summoner void wielder who specializes in killing.

Plot SummaryJoin the Va’Dok’thra: Uncover Ancient Secrets for the Githyanki War Effort!

The Githyanki’s relentless war against the Illithid has reached a pivotal moment. The Lich-Queen Vlaakith CLVII’s decree has been set in motion, and the mighty city of Magra’Teah now fuels our conquest with its forges. Yet, the Human empire stirs, rallying against our advance.

We call upon the elite, the daring, the adventurers — the Va’Dok’thra squads. Your mission: to scour the uninhabited expanses of Origin, delve into the shrouded mysteries of ancient ruins, and seize the artifacts that will assure our dominion.

As a member of the Va’Dok’thra, you will:
  • Explore vast, uncharted territories teeming with forgotten lore.
  • Engage in strategic combat, leveraging your squad’s unique abilities.
  • Discover powerful relics and harness their energies for the Githyanki cause.
  • Influence the tide of war through your squad’s triumphs and decisions.
  • Will you rise to the challenge and secure victory for the Githyanki? Will you claim glory and plunder in the name of the Lich-Queen?
Enlist now and forge your legacy in the annals of the Githyanki conquest!
Origin
right-aligned image
Capital City of Dusk
Origin is the largest of the Prime Worlds, and arguably, the most important. It is ruled by a powerful emperor known as Kaine, a figure as shrouded in mystery as he is respected and feared, even by his own people. He ascended to power five hundred years ago, rescuing the empire from the brink of extermination.

The Great Millennial War ended six hundred years ago, leaving the land bruised and battered. It was a war of Giants and Goblin kin versus the Humans and their allies. The humans emerged victorious in the end, but their victory came at a steep price. Their civilization lay in ruins, with the majority of their cities destroyed. The elves, blaming the humans, retreated to their homelands, becoming more reclusive and xenophobic than ever. The wilds, now mostly devoid of Giants and Goblin kin, teemed with new dangers that thrived in the absence of the old threats. Those cities and villages that remained after the war's end now faced bands of Gnolls, Lizardfolk, and all manner of beasts at their gates, scavenging for easy pickings across the countryside.

The struggle persisted for one hundred years before Kaine, with his formidable armies, emerged as the savior. He swept through the land, vanquishing the marauding creatures that had ransacked the empire, and eventually established his capital in the once-great city of Dusk. For 500 years, he has ruled. How he has maintained power for so long is unknown, for none have ever directly laid eyes on him. Some speculate he is actually an elf, concealing his identity to avoid the ire of the elf councils for his intervention in human affairs. Others suggest he is not one man but a figurehead, with actual rulership passed down from father to son, and Kaine's identity transferred along with the crown. Still, others whisper of darker origins and even darker plots... But nothing is certain, only that he prevailed and established a peace that has lasted five centuries. He rules with an iron fist, his law enforced by the dreaded Overseers. This order, nearly as enigmatic as their ruler, serves as judge, jury, and executioner for Kaine's law and is said to possess mysterious powers that discern truth. The emperor extended his protection to the other races, demanding mandatory tithes in return.

This arrangement has been in place for five hundred years. During this time, the empire has grown considerably, rising from the ashes to become a formidable power once again. Commerce is thriving. A prestigious Wizard's college, founded by the High Order of the Arcane with the emperor's support, now boasts more applicants than ever. The people enjoy a level of comfort unprecedented since the fall of the Old Empire. However, in recent years, Kaine's rule has faced its first challenge.

Five years ago, a cult known as the "Cult of the Burning Fist" emerged within the empire. They denounced the emperor as a Fiend and a profiteer of the people, claiming he had grown fat and wealthy in his mighty citadel while offering little in return for his supposed "protection." "Protection from what?" they challenged. These were times of peace, yet the emperor still demanded exorbitant taxes and tithes, and continued to expand his army to an unprecedented size. They accused Kaine of using this army to cement his hold over the populace and called for him to be exposed as the tyrant they believed him to be. It wasn't long before this new cult was outlawed, and its worship decreed punishable by death. Amidst this strife, with rebel factions establishing themselves in the north, the Githyanki seized the opportunity to strike.
Va'Dok'thra
left-aligned image

The players are members of one of the Va'Dok'thra Githyanki: squadssarths dispatched to explore some of the ruins left over from the Millennial war. One such site has been located by the Dragon Riders and the Githyanki: squadsarth has been tasked with exploration, and if possible, plundering of the site. A report is also expected detailing any available resources that the area may have to offer as well as the site's potential for colonization. The Githyanki: squadsarth will comprise 4-5 PC members.

Githyanki is the preferred race:

For information about the lore and history of the Githyanki, I would recommend this article.

Other races may be considered, but must have a very interesting backstory to convince me that they were accepted into such a squad. Githyanki slaves who earned their freedom may be a source of potential alternate races.
Accepted SourcesAll Paizo material is allowed. Spheres of Power is allowed. Occult Adventures are allowed. Pactmaker from Spheres of Power is allowed. Akashic Mysteries are allowed. Path of War is banned. This means Rajah, and other Akashic classes or archetypes which rely on Path of War are also banned. Dreamscarred Press psionics are banned. I am unsure about the Akashic Magic variant as it appears on AoN or PFSRD. I read the Spheres of Power version under Akashic Mysteries so that is what is allowed. Firearms of any kind are banned.

Banned Classes: Gunslinger is banned unless you select an archetype that does not use firearms. Vigilante is banned. Summoner is banned (Unchained Summoner is ok.)

Banned Feats: Leadership Feat (Leadership Sphere is ok), All Shikigami Style Feats, Sacred Geometry.

Class caveats: Unchained versions of classes are ok but you can use basic versions as well (except for Summoner).

Gestalt: We will be using Gestalt rules from D&D 3.5, or Spheres Gestalt Rules if using Spheres. Exception: Tier 1 classes cannot progress simultaneously at a given level. (Arcanist, Cleric, Druid, Shaman, Witch, Wizard; Spheres Arcanist), though they can still choose another non-tier 1 class to advance in. Note that Spheres versions of the above classes are not considered Tier 1, aside from the Arcanist, which is explicitly listed as Tier 1).
ApplicationsApplications should follow a fairly standard format with, at minimum, the following info:

Name:
Race: (Githyanki? or other?)
Classes (Side 1):
Classes (Side 2):
Intended Role: (Damage dealer? Skill monkey? Tank? Crafter? Blaster? Summoner? Debuffer? Buffer? Battlefield Controller? etc...)
Alignment: (Usually evil? If not, provide explanation in your BG)
Traits:
Campaign Trait:
Flaws:

The format need not follow the above example but should be easy to read and contain at least that much information. I would ask that spoiler tags be used for lengthy descriptions. I am looking for good role players with interesting stories to tell.

Please leave a post with a link to your application once you feel it is ready for review.
Character Creation
  • Characters will be built using either 40 point buy, or will roll 4d6, rerolling 1's, 2's; keep 3 highest. Roll 7 times and keep 6 of your choice. <(dice="Stats")7x4d6rl2kh3(/dice)> You roll once in the appropriate Dice thread, and keep what you roll no matter what.
  • Races: Githyanki or one of their slaves.
  • Characters will start with 71,000 xp, using Fast Advancement, so will begin play at level 10.
  • Characters will be Gestalt or Spheres Gestalt if using Spheres of Power. Exception: Characters cannot advance in two Tier 1 classes simultaneously (Arcanist, Cleric, Druid, Shaman, Witch, Wizard; Spheres Arcanist), though they can progress in any other classes as normal. Note that Sphere versions of the classes not listed here are not Tier 1 (Aside from Sphere Arcanist).
  • Characters will have the chance to be Mythic or Mythic Spheres. This should happen within the first few chapters of the game if players make decisions that lead them there. Characters do not begin play as Mythic.
  • Characters can select 2 Traits and 1 Drawback (to gain a 3rd Trait). Characters can also select 1 Campaign Trait listed under their appropriate Faction as a free bonus Trait (They will appear in your chosen Faction's application thread). Note that characters can have only 1 Trait of each type as normal (1 Combat, 1 Magic, 1 Regional, etc...)
  • Characters may select up to 2 Flaws. The Flaw must have a measurable impact on the character (Taking Shaky as an archer, for example, will get you a 3rd flaw of my choosing without additional benefit).
  • We will be using Michael Iantorno's Feat Tax Fix system. A brief synopsis is available in the above link but the full document will be in play, which can be found HERE, if you wish to obtain it. The synopsis should serve you well, however. Note that the PDF has reintegrated Point-Blank shot in its Archery line of Feats. Instead, the effects of Point-Blank Shot will be added to those of Precise Shot and Precise Shot will serve as prerequisite for any Feat or ability requiring Point-Blank Shot.
  • We will be using Background Skills Rules
  • Characters must select the Oath of Loyalty, selecting Gith.
  • Starting gold will be standard WBL for 10th level characters (62,000 gp), plus an additional 35,000 gp for no more than 2 items which must have some special significance to the character, an explanation for which must be given in the character's background. These 2 amounts are separate and any leftover gold from the bonus amount is lost once the game begins.
  • Fractional Base Bonuses will apply to Gestalt characters. The same rules will apply to Spheres Casters who Gestalt to determine their Caster Level.
  • Hit points will be max of best Gestalt HD. Companions and Summons, etc... will also have max HP.
  • Sphere Casters who are Mid or High casters can receive the Cantrips Feat for free. Low casters can purchase the Feat as normal if they want.

Regarding Clerics
left-aligned image
In Origin, Gith has ascended to Godhood and now permits Githyanki clerics to worship her. Keep in mind that she is a daunting taskmistress and does not tolerate clerics of any other faith within the ranks of her army. Should you choose to advance as a cleric, or any divine class that relies on the Divine for its powers, you must choose Gith as your Goddess. (Or you would not have been selected for this squad and would, in fact, be hunted as a heretic and a pariah.)

Gith (Ascended)

The Astral Sovereign
Source Homebrew

Details

Alignment Lawful-Evil
Pantheon None
Areas of Concern Githyanki, Githzerai, Slaves
Domains War, Travel, Time, Destruction, Knowledge
Subdomains Tactics, Portal, Hatred, Thought
Favored Weapon: Greatsword
Symbol Upward gazing eye mounted upon a Silver Sword; hints of a Beholder within the eye.
Sacred Animal Red Dragon
Sacred Color(s) Orange, Red

Obedience

In one hand, hold a Silver Sword or dagger, unsheathed above your head, standing atop a high place, preferably under an open sky. In the other hand, hold a skull fragment from an Illithid, preferably from the one slain during your rite of passage. Recite Gith's titles and praise her as the liberator of the Githyanki. When wielding a Silver Sword or other Silver Blade, you gain a +1 morale bonus to all damage rolls, even if the source of the damage is a spell or other effect.

Boons - Deific Obedience

1: Escape Tyranny (Sp) Expeditious Retreat 3/day, Phase Step 2/day, or Overland Flight 1/day
2: Timely Absence (Su) Once per day as an immediate action, when you would fail a saving throw, or be reduced to 0 hit points or fewer by an effect, you can disappear from reality altogether and avoid the immediate effects (not being hit or poisoned, for example). You leave behind a transparent afterimage, and at the beginning of your next turn, you reappear in your space (or the nearest available space if that is now occupied) and are staggered until the end of your turn.
3: The Sovereign's Gift (Su) You feel the touch of Gith in the corner of your mind, and know that you exist only to serve her and her cause. You gain an extra spell slot of the highest spell level you can cast, and can use it to cast any Domain Spell of that level that could be found among Gith's Domains. If you are a Sphere Caster gain 1 bonus talent from the War, Warp, Destruction or Divination Sphere. You can change this talent whenever you regain your Spell Points for the day.

If you are not a caster, you gain any spell from Gith's Domains as a Spell-like ability useable 1/day. This spell must be one you could cast if you were a Cleric of the appropriate level. (A 5th level character could choose any of Gith's Domain spells of 3rd level or lower. Every morning, you can choose a new spell to replace the one you had the previous day.

Please do not feel you have to create the character immediately.

So Leadership Sphere is allowed?

If so, jolly good, I have an idea or two for a character, a Conscript that invests heavily in the Leadership Sphere. He would have been working undercover in other Races territories, gathering resources and/or weapons for the Githyanki, while acting as a Merchant in those lands.

Not sure about the 2nd Class, maybe the Incanter Spherecaster Class, with emphasis on the Death (Reanimate) and Warp (Space) Sphere s.

What level adjustment would this be at (aren't Githyanki +2 LA?)

There's no Level Adjustment for Githyanki for this game.

I have slightly modified the banned talent list for Spheres of Power and Might. I have also added the following in reference to tech:

  • Expensive Gadgets
  • Incomplete Knowledge
  • Mana Engineering

I would rather stay away from Dreamscarred Press and all Path of War material.

what are the "Far Hand Talent spell-like ability, and the Wild Talent traits." Are they the Natural Psionic and Unrealized Telekinetic traits?

Ah yes. I forgot to edit the alternate traits when I made changes to the main abilities. I corrected the mistake now.

Expressing interest but have never played PF and have none of the books. Would a Paladin of Tyranny/Bard be OK for Gestalt?

You don't need any of the books to play Pathfinder since you can access almost everything on the d20PFSRD or the Archives of Nethys. Spheres of Power has an excellent Wiki as well.

Antipaladin and Bard are fine for Gestalt.

Going to put together an application for a female Githyanki Paladin of Tyranny/ Barf gestalt character. Do you need the character sheet doing as part of the application? That will take me longer as I will need to read a lot first.
