Yes. There is Psi. The Zhodani are all about it and they are only a few jumps away from where you'll start out.

If you are interested in PSI, your character can undergo Guild Testing or by testing as part of their pre-guild experience at a Psi Institute. The cost is is 5 KCr for the initial testing... and if you're positive for Psi, another 100 kCr. and 4 months for your initial training.

The Psi Career path is also available before your Hunter Career if you decide that is the route you want to go.

Regardless, we will take care of all that during the CC mini-game when we start.

Any suggestions on free-ish things to read while we wait for the mini-game? I've downloaded a few free things from drivethru, but hesitate buying the $30 players giude.

Nope... just the Explorer's Edition for 1 dollar is the only suggestion. Even then, I'll still have everything you need to play in game.

1. Commit to a long-term game: Write a few sentences about why this concept excites you and your experience with Traveller. (No prior experience is required.)

I confirm I'm committed to a long-term game. My first game on RPG Crossing lasted six years before the DM called time. I'm currently playing in a 'Hall of Fame' game elsewhere on the site. My feeling is PbP games really need to be lengthy if you are going to get to really know the characters and see their relationships develop. Unfortunately too many promising games are curtailed before they really get going which always saddens me.

I do not have any experience with Traveller but I've watched your video and read up as much as I can online and it looks awesome.

I've played Starfinder on here and Cyberpunk RED.

I've run table top games of the Free League's BladeRunner. This sounds similar in it's brutality in killing off PC's - use of weapons have to be really considered as they could end in TPK.

I also played in a collaborative story telling game on here which had no rules. The GM set a scene and then detailed another scene the characters had to work towards and then it came down to the writing skill of the players to craft a story which moved between the GM touch points - It was really unique and really fun.

I love stories like The Expanse, The Stars My Destination, Babylon 5 etc.

and if that isn't enough SciFi.

I love playing Twilight Imperium 4th Edition which feels very much like the Traveller universe.


2. Name & Core Personality: Describe the kind of bounty hunter personality you’d like to play. Are you a cold, calculating professional who views every contract as a puzzle to solve? Or perhaps a roguish charmer who uses wit and charisma to stay one step ahead of rivals?

Whilst I like playing most characters types I do have penchant for the Anti Hero when it comes to SciFi. I like the sound of Psionics in Traveller so I'm hoping to build a character around that. My inital thoughts are:

Kidnapped at an early age by a secretive corporate or military black ops program targeted at developing a psi capability for the Imperium to counter the Zhodani. Known only as Subject 9 - My character was subjected to experiments designed to unlock and enhance psionic potential. Instead of creating a perfect infiltrator, the project ended in disaster. Whilst their techniques amplified the innate psionic capabilities the effects were often unpredictable and proved impossible to control. They tried drugs, psi-dampeners, even neural implants—but nothing worked. Eventually the program was deemed a failure and the facility was shutdown. My character was dumped in some back water outpost and left for dead. Unable to integrate due to the unpredictable nature of his psionic abilities he lived on the streets until he was taken captive by a Guild bounty hunter. The bounty hunter had been tasked with finding him and bringing him to the Guild. Why this was remains to be seen. It may have something to do with his parentage or maybe knowledge of the black ops experiments. Whatever the reason Subject 9 will be trying to find out throughout the game arc. He arrives at the Guild in chains wearing a Psi suppressing helmet. The bounty hunter claims his reward and Subject 9 begins training in the guild. This training will give him some control of his abilities but the experiments have altered him in unknown ways which mean he is still prone to uncontrollable Psionic episodes (to be determined).


3. Alias and Sigil: This is both a call sign and an identity by which you'll market and brand your special set of skills.

The Guild name him Ghost and his Sigil is the Fractured Void.



4. The Road Less Taken: Share a brief narrative or vignette of your life. What about your lifepath is leading to this type of life as a young adult? (Characters begin the creation mini-game at age 18.)

Subject 9 staggered forward, chains rattling as the bounty hunter shoved him through the towering doors of the Guild’s intake chamber. His body thrummed from the long journey, his mind raw from the psi-suppressor clamped around his skull. It pulsed and hummed, dulling his senses, drowning out the static, the voices—but he could still feel the cracks beneath the surface every aching moment spent holding his psyche in check.

The Bounty Hunter slammed the guild mark onto the counter with a grunt and slid it across the bare metal.

The Guild officer barely glanced up. “Subject 9. Verified.”

The bounty hunter—grizzled, armored, and indifferent—nodded. “Alive, as requested.”

There was a pause...

...and then a transaction.

The unmistakable chime of credits transferring. The hunter hesitated, just for a second, then turned and left without a word.

Subject 9 barely noticed. The void inside him stirred, restless, hungry. He wasn’t supposed to be here. He wasn’t supposed to be anywhere.

Somewhere nearby a door swooshed open. Booted feet approached.

A hand tilted his chin up, forcing his gaze to meet a pair of cold, assessing eyes. The Guild officer studied him—not with fear, not with pity, but with calculation.

“The Imperium feared you.” Their voice was smooth, unshaken. “Your creators abandoned you." He walked around Subject 9 scrutinizing him from all angles before coming to stand before him once more.
"Their loss..." A moments pause, then a slow smirk. “We, see your potential.”

With a hiss, the psi-helmet unlocked.

The rush was instant—too fast, too much, too loud. Subject 9 gasped as the world fractured around him. Shadows bent at unnatural angles. The minds of everyone in the building flickered like dying stars. His pulse pounded, reality threatening to splinter apart—

Then it stopped.

The void inside him settled. He looked questioningly at the Guild officer.

"You think you are the only Psionic in the Imperium?" The recruiter’s smirk widened. “Interesting.”

A data pad flicked to life. Fingers tapped and traced. Letters, numbers, symbols - cascaded across the screens. Then a single word appeared

'Ghost'

“They tried to make you their weapon... "

He swiped the screen blank.

"They failed. - Now you belong to the Guild - Ghost.”

A new name.

A new beginning

I have never done a PBP game and would like to give it a try. The flexibility seems like it fits my schedule, and I like the Bounty Hunter scenario. I am familiar with most versions of Traveller having played the game since the early 80’s. I am a huge fan of the Mongoose 2nd Edition.

Larian Corvus would have grown up on a law Level 0 planet difficulty of his life depending on his beginning SOC Stat. I imagine that the Guild, or a individual Bounty hunter had a base of operations there, or swung through every now and then and Larian would be one of their eyes and ears on the street. He smart and clever (Highest Stat will most likely go into INT), could keep his eyes and ears open and most important keep his mouth shut. When he was old enough, he approached his patron and asked if she would sponsor him. It seemd the best way to better himself.

The crowded market buzzed with noise as Larian shadowed his mark, eyes locked on the smuggler’s jacket. Just as he closed in, a woman blocked his path—sharp eyes, scar on her cheek.

“Sloppy,” she said, smirking. “But promising.”

“Want me to prove it?” Larian challenged.

She stepped aside. In a flash, he swiped the data stick and returned before the smuggler noticed. The woman turned the stolen item in her hand, nodding.

“Not bad,” she said. “Find me when you’re ready for real work.”

Alrighty then! I think I'm set on the other side for now.

Thank you all for being flexable with those applications - just know that nothing is written in stone as of yet. I just wanted to get a feel for what you might be thinking.

Don't feel tied 100% to your character concept... you have the freedom (and curse) to follow Traveller Character creation to wherever it goes.

LOL... I just finished my example character for the tutorial and video (yes, I made a video guide ) and he MgT2 died! Really. But, what is left of him will be a blast to play.

I should be pulling you over in small groups over the next week or so... so please don't feel bad if you are pulled into the Training Grounds right away. When the Hunter Roster is full, I'll let you know "here".
