Some say they hold mysterious powers. But in truth, the Berkley were apart of a strange religion, worshipping a God with no name, at least not in a language that exists. Some might say it was a cult, but they believed otherwise. It was no different than any other religion, just that only those in there family gain such blessings. Only the family gets the power. Name: Caelum Blackthorn Race: Tiefling Class: Warlock (The Fathomless) Background: Sage Personality traits: I'm used to helping out those who aren't as smart as I am, and I patiently explain anything and everything to others.
There's nothing I like more than a good mystery. Ideal: No Limits. Nothing should fetter the infinite possibility inherent in all existence. (Chaotic) Bond: I've been searching my whole life for the answer to a certain question. Flaw: I am easily distracted by the promise of information. Backstory: Caelum Blackthorn was always fascinated by the ocean. Growing up in a coastal town, he spent much of his youth exploring old libraries, learning about ancient civilizations, and absorbing every scrap of knowledge he could find about the sea. He became particularly drawn to the myths of deep-sea entities, creatures from the fathomless depths—beings said to hold untold power.
As a young scholar, he sought out ancient texts and rituals, hoping to learn more. It was during one of these pursuits that he unknowingly made contact with an otherworldly being—the Fathomless, a force that dwells far beneath the ocean’s surface. This being granted Caelum power, pulling him deeper into the mysteries of the sea. He was marked by the Fathomless with an unshakable connection to the waters and the beings that dwell in the abyss, though he does not yet fully understand the extent of what he has awakened within himself.
When Caelum learned of an opportunity to join the crew of the Silver Compass for a long voyage, he knew it was his chance. The ship was bound for distant shores, and he sensed that the journey could bring him closer to uncovering secrets that might be tied to the forces he now serves. The thought of being surrounded by the endless expanse of the ocean called to him, and he couldn’t resist the temptation to embark on this journey.

-Personality: I work hard so that I can play hard when the work is done. I enjoy sailing into new ports and making new friends over a flagon of ale.
-Ideals: Freedom. The sea is freedom-the freedom to go anywhere and do anything. (Chaotic)
-Bonds: The ship is most important – crewmates and captains come and go.
-Flaws: Once someone questions my courage, I never back down no matter how dangerous the situation. My pride will probably lead to my destruction.
Backstory: The Clarkens were sailors for generations, living off the fat of the sea: wailers, fisherman, captains, merchants.. Peter was not so lucky.. he did some a small time as a imperial sailor, but got enslaved after a sea battle and forced to the oars for years. Not long ago the enemy ship was attacked by pirates and many survivors got enrolled by the pirate ship after victory.
Peter wanted to work his way back home, but he learned that while he was away he was declared both a traitor and deceased, so he took on his grandfather's name and enrolled on the Silver Compass, which luckily didn't look too deep in his doctored documents.

Name: Akiko Race: Human Class: Monk Background:(adapted from the "spy" version of the criminal background)Ninja
Personality:
Traits: I judge people by their actions not their words. I once ran twenty miles to warn my clan of an approaching enemy, and I’d do it again.
Ideal: Honor: If I dishonour myself, I dishonour my whole clan
Bond: I am the last of my clan and it is up to me to preserve the bloodline of the Daimyo
Flaw: I judge others harshly, and myself even more severely
Backstory:
Akiko is an adept of ninjitsu from the distant land of Kozakura.
She was a servant of Furusawa Takao, Daimyo of Yamato Province. She grew up in the temple of the Iga shinobi, and learned the arts of ninjitsu, passed down from generation to generation. The Iga shinobi are loyal messengers and spies of the Daimyo, bringing news of enemy attacks or plots, keeping watch on the lands, or tasked with running important coded messages to allies in surrounding lands. They also practised esoteric martial arts in their temple, deep in the forest.
But when Takao’s own uncle, Kumomoto, lord of the neighbouring Kumachi Province, moved against them, no-one saw it coming. Kumomoto had secretly become a powerful sorcerer, and wielded dark magic to amass and control a huge army of brutal, ogre-like Oni-samurai. Kumomoto also employed his own shinobi, the Akuma ninja of the Kouka clan.
Akiko learned of the impending attack by chance, while out delivering a message, and ran twenty miles to try and warn her family at the temple. But it was too late. Her family were wiped out. Next, the Daimyo’s samurai were surprised and defeated, and Kumomoto took Furusawa’s castle easily. Takao committed suicide rather than face his uncle’s execution.
Akiko herself felt the need to do likewise, as she stood by Takao in his last moments. But the lord gave her one last order. To flee the country with his young son, Furusawa Daizen - who was also an apprentice samurai. Their task is stay alive, to preserve the bloodline. And one day return and reclaim the land of Yamato.
Kumomoto learned that the heir survived, and has sent his evil minions to track them down. Akiko has convinced Daizen to flee the country to distant shores. They must do this under false identities. And so they signed on to the first ship leaving port at Nagashima as simple deck hands. While Akiko is able to assume other identities as part of her training, this is proving troublesome for Daizen.
From Nagashima they have made their way West, always seeking a way to try and topple the sorcerer, keeping one step ahead of their pursuers.
And then they signed up for the Silver Compass...
Thanks Nade!

Reason: Samurai name confirmed
Name: Furusawa Daizen Race: Human Class: Samurai (Fighter) Background: Noble Personality Trait 1: My favour, once lost, is lost forever. Personality Trait 2: If you do me an injury, I will crush you, ruin your name and salt your fields. Ideal: Respect is due to me because of my position, but all people regardless of station deserve to be treated with dignity. Bond: The common folk must see me as a hero. Flaw: In fact, the world does revolve around me.
Backstory: Daizen is the youngest son of Furusawa Takao, Daimyo of Yamato Province, hailing from the land of Kozakura. He is also the last remaining survivor of the former Daimyo's line following the betrayal of Kumomoto.
Although as the youngest son, there was never an expectation that Daizen would inherit his father's dynasty,
Daizen was nothing save the most diligent of Takao's heirs. Of all of Takao's children, it was Daizen who would push himself harder than the others. It was Daizen who would take his father's teachings to heart, training with his samurai, taking the teachings of the blade and wanting to not just learn, but to be the very best. For the stubborn and proud young man, nothing less than this would suffice for where he wanted to be.
Daizen would take the same mentality in all the things that he would do, be it martial training or the learnings of the scribe and bureaucracy, he would approach each and every lesson determined to excel.
Indeed, if one were to take a deeper look at the proud young man, one would realise that his drive and determination stemmed from his near enough invisibility in his father's eyes. It wasn't that Takao did not care for his youngest son, far from it. It was that the Daimyo was simply too busy and too committed to pay his younger son any attention. Here, excellence was not striven for, it was both demanded and expected, so Daizen in truth, despite his commitment to learning, was just achieving what was asked of him and nothing more.
The fall of the Yamato Province was like a painful dagger wound to Daizen's heart. An insidious, corrupting emotional injury that has never quite healed, though the grave and serious young man will never speak openly of such. It was not just the betrayal, not just his father's death, but his own inability to protect those he cared for around him which has shattered Daizen's emotions and confidence. That he has been forced to flee under duress in the company of Akiko and under disguise no less is a devastating blow to his honour that consistently eats away at him.
The shame of his own cowardice in fleeing the lands of his birth, at least in his eyes, is something that demands restitution. Daizen cannot rest, will not rest, until the lands of his birth are taken back in the name of his family, and justice is meted out against the traitor Kumomoto.
This, is something that Daizen is wholly committed to, but what even Akiko may not realise is that in this case, Daizen's honour is his life, and without this, his life is forfeit.
But first, Daizen needs a plan. He needs an army, and he cannot get what he needs in these lands. And so he has been forced to travel west, and sign on the Silver Compass. This is the first step, in his own eyes, of his redemption, and if it is not, then he will die in the process of doing so.
