[Game Thread] Chapter 1: A Sorcerer's Request

Decarde shrugs "Don't see why we couldn't work together." Taking note of the odd man, he raises a eyebrow and says "Do people often just randomly come into this pub and handoff sealed envelopes?"

OOC A plot hook! Quick, everyone ignore it and infuriate the DM!

"Thank you," smiled Alec as he sipped his tea, letting it warm his fingers and enjoyed the calming smell that wafted into his nose. Having drank enough of the hot beverage, Alec's mood becomes much more cheerful and he swivels on the stool to face the others. "Hello there. I don't think I've seen any of you around here often. Are you new to Carrdon Port? If you are, let me be the first to welcome you. My name is Alec. Alec Vorwin."

He extends his right hand out in a show of goodwill. He didn't care that the paladin happened to be a vampire; much of that stereotypical mutual hatred of werewolves and vampires Alec would have had was redirected at the beast that tore into his father's flesh. Feeling that he might have allowed some of that anger to creep into his facial expression, Alec quickly broadened his smile and opened his eyes slightly wider. Let's hope they are kind enough to overlook any fax pas I manage to find myself in. Maybe they could help as well...but not yet. I still don't even know if they responded to the same add I did.

Despite this, Alec couldn't shake the feeling that these people were genuinely honest and good. He hoped that they indeed were the rest of the group and he dived into the conversation with them, loving every minute of it.

OOC: Probably failed Bluff check Alec is embarrassed and tries to cover up his changing expression when the beast invades his thoughts. He attempts to hide his angered features by smiling and this is his "success" of that action. Dice Roll: 1d20+2 (11)+2 Total = 13

The human girl looked from the barkeep and the suspicios behavior of him and that out-of-place patron to Alec as he introduced himself. For a moment she wondered why he seemed almost angry for a second although he tried to cover up with a smile.

"Hello Alec Vorwin. My yes, I for one haven't been too long in this town" - And if I can help it, I won't stay here for much longer, too - "You carry a bow, even when in such a lovely tavern? I take it, you're a hunter, no?"

Letus watches the man hand over the envelopes and whispers under his breath, "Finally." He turns to Alec, "As a matter-of-fact I've lived here for many years. However, I've been traveling for a few years since I closed down my shop. As you can tell I try to keep a low profile." Letus says with a chuckle.

Decarde looks at Mittens, who suddenly arches her back at Alec, wary of....something. He pats her on the head, looking at Alec with a wary glance. Still, manners came first. "I'm Decarde LeBlance. My cat does not like you. This is bad for you." He pulls out a deck of cards "However, I've always thought a good game of cards clears up doubts about a person. So tell you what, I'll show you how to court Mitten's favor if you play a round with me. Fair?"

As Alec is trying to pass off his anger towards Dacarde, as a smile badly with bluffing. Amalia senses to notice that Alec's smile is
just a visage for his hatred for Decarde. With most of the patrons and employees with in the tavern notice the anger on Alec's face as
he tries to smile through it calmly. Failing miserably.

Damn that werewolf, Alec thought darkly. Now I got the whole tavern looking at me. Well, let's hope this card game can get rid of some of those stares.

Alec clears his throat, taking the moment to gather his thoughts and turns to Decarde. "Yeah, I'm up for it. Let's make it quick though, I think we'll be leaving here pretty soon." He then glances at Amalia, and this time holds a real smile. "I have reason to be wary. And yes, I am a hunter."

His grin fades when he sees the envelope. Back to business, it seems. Unless the vampire is feeling lucky with his card game. "Why not play a round or three of this game of yours? Is this a betting game, or something a little more...unconventional?" Alec says, with a more natural look on his face and a twinkle in his eye at the prospects of a little fun.

"A card game?", Amalia asked with about as much enthusiasm as most people would show for a race of snails.

"You two do that. I'll be right back", she said in a hurried excuse and went away from the table to look for something more interesting.
Like .. watching my hair grow ..

She went on to the counter where the barkeep just got these peculiar little envelopes. She positioned herself directly before the older human and smiled so bright, it should have blinded him.
"Hi ... again ... Soo.. you run something like a post office in here, too?", she said after she got his attention.

Once the awkwardness in the tavern passes the patrons and employees go back to what they were doing before.

Jon the 'older' man that's the barkeep of the Dragon's Eye, looks up at Amalia as she walks up taken a stool at the bar as she smiles at him.
He smiles back at her. "Nah, was asked to do a favor for a friend was all miss. Why'd you ask?" The barkeep stands about six feat tall and is a slight bulky hulk of a man, between the age of twenty and twenty five years old. Hes wearing a loose shirt, baggy breeches, and cloth wrappings on his feet. Jon's has dark brown close cropped hair and hazel eyes.

"Just curious", she muttered in reply and then went on more energetic: "Mind I asked what kind of favor? It almost looked a bit conspiratorial", she added with a cheery blink as her light blue met his hazel eyes.

Decarde lets lose a fanged smile "See that? Be nice, buy drinks for someone, and they dance off the second they get bord. Sorcerers, I tell yah. Always seeking higher and higher things." Blindingly fast, a hand of five, weather-worn cards find their way beneath Alec, the brown backs telling no secrets. Holding up a hand of his own, Decarde leans back, staring at the cards "Naw. Just some traditional five card hold'em. No bets, I win far too often for it to be fair."

 

Decarde attempts to divine Alec's intent from the way he plays his cards. Specifically, how focused he can get.

Jon responds back to Amalia's question. "No harm in asking, my friend just likes to keep things a bit low key is all." He continues flashing her with a quick smile. "You know with all the ruffians that hang around the harbor and here with in the tavern. If that looks a bit conspiratorial to some one that's not from our 'quaint' little village. Even if looks that way when it's really not." Jon chuckles, then blinks as well meeting Amalia's eyes. "Speaking of which though, I had the letters already delivered to your rooms as was instructed." His hands resting on top of the bar with a rag in the left hand, smiling at her.

Decarde becomes really focused as he begins playing traditional five card hold'em with Alec.

"I see. Care to tell me what these letters are about?", she asked, obviously too impatient to wait even the few minutes it would take her to go up to her room and see for her self.

What could possibly be written in there? And who would send me a letter? I didn't tell the folks back home I was going to stay here, did I?

Jon replies back to Amalia's obviously impatient fervor. "I don't ask or peak into other peoples privacy, miss. So I have no idea your guess i good as mine. As I don't have the foggiest idea what the letters are about." He smiles softly, going back to taking care of the bar with patrons requests for food and drink. "Would you like another glass of wine though?" looking up from what Jon was tending to after taking care of the tavern, noticing Amalia's wine glass empty winking at her. As most of the sailor patrons have stumbled out of the dragon's eye back to their perspective ships they serve aboard. With most of the local inhabitants still enjoying their drinks, chatting with friends and listening to traveling minstrels.

Alec picks up his cards and studies his hand. He carefully checks his opponent and he tries to see if the vampire plans to play unfairly. "Thanks for the warning. I'll be sure to take great care," Alec replies to Decarde as he plays the game.
