Aside from a few tweaks, I think I'm done (pending review and all of that).

Hadrian Hawthorne

Basic InfoName: Hadrian Hawthorne
Chosen Plot Hook: The Paladin
Background: Noble
Trait: I’m a do-er -- I tackle everything with passion and vigor!
Bond: I am just as worthy as my siblings -- as worthy as anyone! I have a deep desire to prove myself, and just being “adequate” probably won’t be enough.
Ideal: I am a protector at heart, a fierce defender of anyone weaker than myself.
Flaw: ...I think almost everyone is weaker than myself. I have a hard time accepting that not everyone needs me, and I’ve been told that my ego and zeal will someday lead me into a situation that I can’t get myself out of.

AppearanceOut of armor, Hadrian isn’t a particularly impressive figure. His height is barely middling, and, though he’s fit from training, his build is fairly average. He likes to think he gets by well enough on his looks, though, with cool-toned russet brown skin, dark walnut brown eyes, loose black curls, and an easy, devilish smile. Recently he has grown a beard (really just a goatee and moustache) to give a bit more definition to his rather round face, but hasn’t decided if he likes it yet or not. He wears his family’s signet ring, which bears their crest of a hare circled by brambles -- precious to him because the very fact that he was given one is symbolic of his acceptance by them -- but he’s also never far from his sword, the same one that was given to him upon taking his oath as a paladin.

PersonalityHadrian has always been an active person, to put it mildly, and he didn’t really grow out of that as much as his parents would have liked -- as a grown man, he has just shifted focus. Because he grew up clinging to knightly ideals in a desperate bid to make his lack of choice in his own future more palatable to himself and more prestigious to others, his heart is generally in the right place, but he tends to think with that heart rather than with his head. He’s already brash by nature, but his desire to help and his need to prove himself combine to make him even more impulsive, which often gets him into trouble -- though more often with his words than his deeds. He’s earnest and confident and charming, yet he’s also attention-seeking, cocky, and hotheaded. He genuinely cares for others, but his care comes from a position of lofty ego, where he vastly overestimates himself and vastly underestimates everyone else.

Bonus RP(Note: I saw that you specifically asked for "an introspective monologue", but I didn't actually see any monologues on any of the other apps, so I wasn't sure which you wanted. So I did both a monologue and a regular rp block about the plot hook for the bonus. Sorry for the extra word-block! Obviously they overlap because they're referencing the same thing)

Since I'm such a nice guy and there seem to be a couple stragglers...I'll extend the deadline to 2pm EST and then close the thread to new apps.

Kaylid Seaward

Basic InfoName: Kaylid Seaward
Plot Hook: The Priestess
Background: Acolyte
Trait:
  • I've spent so long in the temple that I have little practical experience dealing with people in the outside world. I am particularly used to moving in the largely female world of the inner temple.
  • I've enjoyed fine food, drink, and high society among my temple's elite. Rough living grates on me.
Bond:
  • Everything I do is to live up to the example of my goddess and the expectations of my peers and people.
Ideal:
  • Duty. The obligation of the priestesses to Rhyfel and its people is sacred and vast. Evelyn the Martyr died to birth the nation and each priestess is honor bound to give their all so that it may continue to flourish. To be called to something greater is an enormous responsibility.
Flaw:
  • The Martyr is the very example of selflessness and yet… there is a small, selfish part of me that rails against a life of service and sacrifice. I feel, at times, that I am a very poor priestess.
  • The Presbytera and the temple have my unthinking trust and devotion.

AppearanceOne of the younger priestesses of the faith, Kaylid appears to be about twenty-six and looks like… Well, she looks like a parishioner might wish a priestess to look— she looks good. She looks like a watercolor you might find in a well-to-do house, soft and delicate and wholesome. It’s the soft, curling hair, the pale blue eyes… In her clerical vestments she fits easily into the image of her station. What isn’t immediately obvious is that, genetics aside, she works to fit that image. Her posture was painstakingly perfected for long masses, her gowns tailor made for tasteful modesty instead of fashion.

Her one adornment is a necklace of the martyr that she invariably wears around her neck.

PersonalityKaylid is typically an immensely confident young lady— that’s what being treated as a goddess’ chosen can do. She is gracious in her sermons and good works, but thoughtlessly accepting of obedience and veneration in her daily life. She doesn’t really know how to deal with adversity and hardship without the strength and purse of the temple behind her, she hasn’t learned. Her way in life has been comfortably paved by her holy rank, where helping the poor is as immediate and painless as handing out bread from the temple stores. All of this has resulted in a priestess who is kind and sweet, for it costs her nothing, while also being thoughtlessly, childishly, imperious and arrogant at times.

She’s aware that she’s had a fortunate, sheltered life. She’s aware that her god-given powers are held in sacred trust, to use for the good of the people. This has impressed upon her a deep sense of duty and obligation and she strives to live by the example of service and sacrifice that her goddess lay down, though she fears in her heart of hearts that she does not have the mettle for it.

Bound by her faith, Kaylid endeavors never to:
  • Tell a lie. There are many loopholes, but never a specific, outright lie.
  • Use her powers solely for her own benefit.

BackstoryThere was a time before Kaylid belonged to the temple. She can identify the little port town on a map, she can remember the smell of fish and the vague knowledge that life was hard— but that was a long time ago and a world away. The priests found her when she was six, a mere child, but a child whose touch could heal. She was sent to the capital, to the temple. She was a ward, though not an orphan, but with parents that could hardly read or write and letters that said little and less— the effect was the same. The temple became her family, her life.

Wrapped in the security of the church, elevated even there by her preternatural abilities, Kaylid led a life of relative comfort and leisure. Her faith in the goddess was easily learned while her sense of duty took slightly longer, but was all the stronger for it. Still, she would never have expected to be tapped for a mission of particular importance. There were other priestesses more learned, more pious. The prospect of a greater task or purpose is at once exciting… and terrifying.

RP Sample
“I don’t know if I could do it.”

It was going on the fifth hour of contemplation before the statue of The Sacrifice when Kaylid spoke, voice cracking slightly as she broke the deep silence of the moment. It wouldn’t do for other exercises, but for this one personal discovery was key and Mother Clementa was an indulgent proctor.

“Do what, child?” The prompt was gentle, kind in its patience. The voice of one who had seen innumerable novices quake and stumble on their path to piety.

Still, it took a moment for Kaylid to muster a response, to commit her unfaithful thoughts to words. “Take the spear for Bartholomew— I mean, I’d like to. I know I should— “

“No.”

Kaylid looked up, eyes wide at this blasphemy, but Clementa’s voice never wavered and she continued on—

Whelp! That's what I got with the time I had. Wish I'd seen this game earlier! I'm going to keep plugging away at the RP sample because I like to finish things, but that should be the last edit to the post.

So, I may be insane but considering the quality of apps submitted and the fact that we have 3 priestesses, 3 paladins, and 15 total apps...I'm going to accept everyone and make 3 groups of 5. I'll start sending out invites to group specific folders tonight and begin populating the folders more with information over the weekend.

It is my desire to make 3 groups doing 3 different things simultaneously in the world. This would require me to rework intros for 2/3 of the groups but other than screwing up some RP samples, I don't see this impacting how your characters are constructed.

Each group will still be centered around a priestess sent on a mission with a Knight of the Spear escort plus three other players.

If anyone has an issue with this, please PM me or secret an objection in this thread and I'll try to address it either in group construction or running multiple groups running the same quest in different universes (or some such thing).

Awesome!

Yeah, no worries about screwing up the RP Samples -- they're really just samples, after all! Sounds like having multiple groups all moving in the same world could actually be really cool and lead to some neat stuff.
