By the time Eindric and Decagui have switched horses a second time, and are now riding without spare mounts attached Eindric is leaning close to his mount to avoid overhanging obstacles, his mind continuosly replaying the route from Draminton to the steel caves. The other two riders still follow, but they are starting to lag behind as they had not yet switched to thier unencumbered spare mounts, instead pushing thier horses to the fullest extants of exhasution and fatigue. Eindric knows that it takes approxiametly 10 hours by wagon from the city to the crossroads and then from thier six more hours to the steel caves. An unencumbered rider on a light horse should be able to cover that distance in half that time, if his mount could hold out. Following this nearly perfectly straight path forged through trees and rock by the steel horse could reduce that time by one third at least. About 5 hours or so. Pushing the horses to thier fullest, which can only be accomplished with lots of magic and/or lots of horses, can further reduce that time to about an hour or a little more, plus the time lost switching horses and such.
At one point Decagui shouts over the clamor of the horses in the brush, I think I saw the metal horse! Eindric wonders how he could see anything on the breakneck ride through the dark, thick forest. Decagai and Eindric suddenly start pulling ahead of the other two men and the soldier calls a halt. Swiftly dismounting he hurries back to the others as their horses collapse from exhaustion. Eindric, hurry heal these two mounts and lets go! Decagai indicates the two spare mounts as the scouts move the tired animals to the front of the line, all four of the remaing horses either lie down or sit down, breathing heavily. The two scouts kneel beside them, offering water from thier skins.

*(When horses become fatigued, the only mechanical effect is straight damage...)*

Fookin fookerton... Eindric mutters under his breath, slipping from the saddle. CLW on the two broken mounts
Dice Roll:
(as this is an older post, these rolls are interpreted by the older (more basic) dice roller code)
d8+4: (3) + 4 Total = 7

.
Ein and Deca will then take he two as-yet-unridden mounts and mash on out of there as fast as they can, continuing to follow the path of destruction.
Eindric begins to believe that they must be close and yells to Decagui that he should be ready to fight any moment now. That beast surely leads us straight into a fight. Ein readies himself. As soon as he breaks into an area of fighting he will use the Staff of defense and begin a song to shock and awe.

Ahead you can hear a terrifying screech that sounds horribly familiar. That is the battle cry of a fully-grown red-dragon. Flashes of bright light illuminate the sky and the sound of thunder reverbates along the forest floor. Water drizzles from pine needles as the very ground trembles with the battle. A blast of brightes gold pours down from the heavens, lighting the alpine woods brighter than day and leaving tracks of yellow on your vision for long seconds. Red and orange flames reach above the treetops and blue light crackles as the fire and golden light fade. The screams of horses and the grunts of men echo after the heavy pounding noises that sound like titans wrestling on a deck of loose pine wood.

Whisper's to himself Maddonn....... (A little phrase he picked up from the linguini chef at Draminton's Fair) Reflections of blue. yellow and red chaos fill his wide eyes. (will)

His free hand reaches under and behind to grab the staff. It comes loose from its binding and spins in a wide arc that almost reaches the ground. When it stops twirling it is pointed at Decagui. Eindric unthinking, begins bellowing out a song

Blue light flashes at he staff's tip and expands 20 feet in every direction, encompasing the two horses and their riders. (Shield of Law +4 AC and lots of other stuff vs. Chaotic sources)

Roll a ride check and a Perform check. If the total combined score makes a DC 50, you may arrive one round earlier than planned.

well a 15 and a 7 would have done it. You will arrive at the end of the next round (after the beasties go one more time, you may enter). I will let you know, or if you are not on at that time, I will describe your entrance with much fanfare. You may post Decagai's actions as if he were your cohort for this encounter. You can also hear Teny's song (inspire courage) now, as well as some more blasting and rumbling.

You will enter from the west part of the map, in the middle. Right behind Guyate, where the steel horse came from.

Ready...?
