[Game Thread] Master of the Fallen Fortress

Dorin Dorin holstered his Hammer and looked around. There were a lot of things to see, he wandered around Perception, 8looking but didn't see much of note. "I don't think I recognize any of these symbols. That weird, you would think i would have come across some of them. Perhaps someone has been raiding the battlefield for banners and stashing them here? Maybe one of those things was an archivist of some sort?" he suggested while eyeing the corpses. Something was not right about them. "Hey, why does it smell less? Do they actively produce this smell? A corpse wouldn't immediately stop stinking, it would probably get worse before it got better." Using his boot he gently rolled one of the creatures over. A fresh wave of stench hit him. "Ohh, it really makes the eyes water" he choked, tears clouding his vision. Dorin turned to look at the others, breathing through the sleeve on his arm in an attempt to keep it out of his face. "Someone remind me to look into this when we get back home, there has to be something in the library. "   Knowledge History, do I recognize anything? Henry Henry coughed as he inhaled a bit more stench and nudged Argonar with his elbow, "It stinks, but it's funny that it stinks less with these things gone." Still, the young thief coughed on the stink as he moved around, but was drawn back to the banners. "Yeah these things are cool as the nine hells. Give me a hand, Nar, I'm going to take one of these home with us. Hopefully we can wash the smell out..." Henry started clambering at the wall, looking for a way to bring a banner down without ripping it.

Argonar Argonar nodded to Henry, "That's a good idea!" he said, Climb 21clambering up the wall some to unhook the specified banner. Afterward, he helps Perception 15search the room for anything of note.

Whomever the banner once belonged to -a query probably best solved by one versed in [Knowledge: Local]- it was clear from its construction that they didn't lack for coin. Thread of gold, only mildly tarnished by age, laced through thick silk that withstood the passage of time. In the place of prominence rose a large raptor seemingly made of flame.

Racks of weapons, most rotted through or rusted away, lined two of the walls. There might be some good steel hidden among the dross but it would require a fine eye for [Appraisal] to separate it from the junk.

Aside from the way they'd entered, the room boasted two other doors. The one in the center of the wall surely led to the central stair that was all but impassable from below. To the right of it, another door led back around the curve of the tower.

Argonar Argonar held up the banner, "No idea what this is... but it sure is cool! Maybe Gilda will know something about it when we bring it home." He carefully folded the aged banner and put it in his pack. "Now I'm guessing the stairway will be the quickest way up?" he head to the door that probably would open onto the stairwell, testing the handle to see if it is locked. "Everyone ready?" he asks, Unless it is locked or anyone objectswaiting for affirmative responses, then opening the door.

Harri Keogh "Wait! Not yet!" Said Harri in response to Argonar. He takes another bolt from his case, and fitted it in place on his crossbow. "Loaded..." He sets the mechanism in place. There is a faint click. "...locked..." He pauses. "...there really should be a way to end that sentence!" He muses, then looks up. "Oh, I'm ready now!"

Dorin Dorin frowned at the banner as Argonar took it down. It was on the tip of his tongue, he should know what it is but the name and significance sat there at the back of his mind teasing him, refusing to reveal it's significance. As his brothers tucked the banner away he decided scowling was not going to solve his problem and resigned himself to look it up when they returned home. He patted his trusty hammer and replied "Ready when you are"

Henry Henry nodded happily as they Argonar the banner away and moved next to the door. "Whatever it is, it's treasure. To the next room, and more treasures!" The grinning rogue moved next to Argonar at the door, taking out his lockpicks and preparing to deal with a locked door.   Lockpick: 12

Onwards and upwards The large banner folded as easily as its bulk would allow, making a comfortable counterweight in the fitness guru's pack. It certainly didn't hinder him any as he threw open the door and led the charge up the stairs. The level above, where they'd encountered the bats, held the first truly locked door the group had stumbled across. Henry's tentative pickings discovered a fairly average piece of machinery, within his skillset if only just. Above them the stairs ran on in a tight spiral. It was reasonable enough to assume that this passage wound straight up the center of the tower, with doors like the one they currently faced at each floor all the way up to the fifth.

Henry Henry whistled as he ascended the stairs, happy to have picked a lock. It just felt so satisfying to hear that final click. He followed behind the eager Argonar, drawing his blades as he prepared for whatever was at the top of the stairs.

Dorin "I vote we go straight for the top" Dorin quietly commented as he started his climb. "Henry is there any way we can bar these doors as we pass them?"

Henry Henry took his time to open the door, squinting as he fiddled with the lock for a bit longer. "Hold on, I got this..." click! "There!" he grinned as he got up and moved to open the door. "It depends on how this door opens, if it swings inwards we can pile some rubble on the other side of this door. If we're lucky the locking mechanism can be set again as well." He folded up his picks and tucked them into his bag, "But let's see if this will work."   Take 20 Disable Device: 27

Argonar After Henry and Dorin finish blocking the door, Argonar grinned, "How lucky are we? This many flights of stairs will give us a good strength and cardio workout!" he said, before taking the steps two at a time on the way to the top.

Dorin While Dorin was in fair enough shape, they didn't have this many stairs growing up and he was also starting to "feel the burn" as Argonar would say. "Why do I always try to hold my breath when going up stairs?" he muttered under his breath. Then a moment later he could be heard quietly talking to himself "...Perhaps some kind of tower climbing platform..."
