Plot Summary You are thrust into an unfolding epic story that quite literally begins when a Dragon and its allies attack a town. This adventure, "Hoard of the Dragon Queen". is the first series of adventures in the greater Campaign of Tyranny of Dragons. It takes place against the backdrop of The Cult of the Dragon seeking out and collecting the five dragon masks, and of Severin’s efforts to assemble a treasure hoard worthy of Tiamat. This search for treasure has seen the cult unleash raids across the North of Faerûn, devastating the communities of the Sword Coast and drawing the attention of you, the adventurers. You will start in 'The Funnel.' Those surviving will continue on at the start of the campaign. This will take those surviving characters up to level 3, then to 6 and beyond for as long as the game holds out.

The Hook The setting is in the Forgotten Realms on Faerûn’s western shore—the Sword Coast. A thin strip of civilization stretches down this coast, where widely spaced cities are arranged like beads on a string. A combination of roads and wagon tracks loosely connect the cities that stretch from Luskan in the north to Calimport in the south, passing through Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur’s Gate, and other great ports along the way. Your adventure will begin in the town of Greenest, at the precise moment that the town is being hit by Raiders from the Cult of the Dragon. Information on Greenest Greenest was founded by the halfling Dharva Scatterheart, a rogue who fancied herself the queen of the Greenfields. Scatterheart passed away without ever achieving that level of eminence, but her town grew into a thriving community. Its success isn’t surprising, since Greenest is the only town of any size astride the Uldoon Trail, the most direct road between the eastern cities of the Dragon Coast, Cormyr, and Sembia with the Coast Way running south to the great cities of Amn, Tethyr, and far Calimshan. The trade caravans that pass through Greenest bring gold to the town’s merchants and craftsfolk, and Governor Nighthill runs the town at the behest of the inhabitants. Your character might be from Greenest and just finishing up your day, or perhaps you were on the road traveling from one town to another or returning to your home in Greenest after a trip away.

Roll a d6. The matching ability score is increase by one point. Create a short backstory with your bonded character that explains the ability increase. For example, Tim and Eric decide that their characters were friends in the village. Tim rolls a 4, which increases his character’s Intelligence by one, while Eric rolls a 1, which increases his character’s Strength by one. Eve quickly picked up on Sam's love of hearing stories about how great a warrior he was destined to become, adoring townsfolk, swooning maidens, the whole thing. Eve tends to temper these stories with 'prophecies' that require Samuel to train extensively so he doesn't run off and get himself killed. She's even taught him some sleight-of-hand tricks with tarot cards, though she claims that revealing the secrets of the cards would offend the gods (and create a potential rival). Though the half-orc doesn't have much money, he is somehow able to acquire healing potions that he provides when she's in town, an attempt to 'cure' her limp. Though the potions have had no effect on her leg, they have increased her general health and stamina (CON bond). Appearance: An attractive, exotic-looking young woman with long auburn hair and wide, blue eyes. She dresses very fluidly in clothing designed to draw the eye and captivate the mind. She is of willowy build and uses it to maintain an ethereal, otherworldly quality, particularly when seated at the table. She prefers not to move about during the day, as she has a pronounced limp when she walks that she feels takes away from the mystique, so she avoids walking when she can. When she does walk, she tends to exaggerate the limp and walk slower, so it seems more that she's pushing through water than clumping around on a bum leg. Personality: Eve is essentially a con woman and opportunist, the nature of her business. However, she genuinely does love people, and would do fortune telling for free, if she could afford to. She knows how to read people, and loves telling them what they want to hear. She feels it gives them hope to drudge through their hard existence, and the mysterious act lends some excitement to boring, dreary lives. Why are you in Greenest?: "To bring hope...or doom!...to the good people of this community, of course! Are you still curious? Of course you are, just step into my tent and I'll tell you my story...and yours, as well!" Is there a person in the Greenest area that you care about?: She's fond of most of the people she tells fortunes to, as they are her only real social circle (life on the road, you know). In Greenest, she's friends with Samuel the Half-orc page. She is also friends with Rose a barmaid she assisted against an unruly patron, and Gil, a local farmer who's a bit smitten with her, to the annoyance of his mother. Although he doesn't believe it, he likes to hear her tell him stories of his future greatness. He has tried to convince her tell him the tricks of her trade, but she would only show him sleight of hand tricks with her tarot cards (+dex for Samuel). He feels bad about her limp and is constantly bringing her potions and concoctions made by the clerics at the local temple to "cure" her leg when he visits her. Although they don't fix her leg, they have other unknown medicinal benefits (+con for Eve).Dexterity with Eve Appearance: Samuel is a young, fit half-orc and aspiring knight. He wears fine livery made of aqua-marine silk and topaz cloth, trimmed in gold, and held together with dark green stitching and buckles, revealing a smooth and toned chest. His eyes are a golden amber, and his skin is a deep green. He is very handsome and would be quite charming if it weren’t for his uncontrollable twitch. Whenever he begins thinking a devious thought - which is quite often - his face twitches; he blinks his eyes, and grimaces his mouth. Most of the town of Greenest has learned not to trust him when this happens. Personality: Samuel is ambitious and driven. He’s overly sensitive and fussy about his appearance and tries to keep himself fastidiously clean at all times. Within the Chauntea temple hierarchy, he aspires someday to be a Lord Knight. He tries his best to understand the political wrangling within the temple, and to make alliances that benefit himself, however, he is generally ostracized by his peers, for as soon as he thinks he has some secret advantage, he begins to twitch uncontrollably. Despite all of this, he is a good fighter - strong, quick, and tough due to his half-orc heritage. If he would just focus on fighting and stay out of the temple’s political in-fighting, he would probably do much better in life. Why are you in Greenest? "I was abandoned by my parents in Greenest. Left to starve, the clergy at the temple took mercy on me and took me in and trained me as a page. It was kind of them to do so, but I don’t appreciate the priests always laughing at my plans to be a Lord Knight someday. If they’d just give me a chance, I could show them what I’m capable of…" Is there a person in the Greenest area that you care about? "Eden, the blacksmith’s daughter. She’s the only one who’s been kind to me in Greenest. Sure, I have a few friends, and the clergy, but Eden is… special to me."

She can sell her leather, he can sell his pork products, and her help pulling the cart is especially appreciated on some of those hills that take a bit of effort to get up. This one time Eir managed to stop the cart from rolling down the hill after Arnalt slipped in the mud. Good times. Appearance: Middle aged, balding, fat and tall. Personality: Likes to eat and drink. Doesn't like to work much. Seems to be good at getting out of work. Would rather loaf around in the field. Why are you in Greenest? I'm here to sell some bacon, and buy some salt. Pigs need salt. Ol' lady Margle is a tailor that lives on the west side of town. That's who I go to when my shirts get ripped up, or muddy, or what have you. Happens a lot. Anyway, she's real handy with a needle, and clever. She does the patches on the inside, so you can't tell as easily that the shirt's got a hole in it. She can get mud out of a shirt and make it not only look new, but smell new too. Gets rid of the pig stink and everything. And I think she likes me, which is sort of flattering, but would be more flattering if she wasn't 80.
