-The mist is a noxious cloud that surrounds the subcontinent of Gost. Exposure to it for prolonged periods of time induces madness in those exposed. It also seems to spawn monsters the likes of which have never been seen on Gost previously.

-The various nations of Gost generally use measurements for time standardized by the halflings, and the halfling calendar beginning with the Advent of Mist is universally recognized. Each year is composed of six primary seasons: Freeze, Thaw, Plant, Grow, Reap, and Frost. These seasons are further divided by weeks of ten days each, for a total of roughly 50 days each season. There are twenty-four hours in a day.

Halflings

 

The Home Gaurd
The Home Gaurd is a national peacekeeping force spread throughout Hearth. Of late they've been kept occupied by the growing tension between the halfling natives and the finally flowering gnomish population. Their jobs tend to be largely ceremonial, as tensions rarely lead to outright conflict within the heart of the halfling homeland. The Home Guard is not to be taken lightly, however. They are well-fed, superbly maintained, and equipped directly by the Head Families; they are well respected by society at large and are second in fighting prowess only to the mighty Northern Rangers of Border. Members of the Guard receive education and training in any number of useful skills and may expect expert guidance in the development of their special abilities. Due to the interconnected nature of the halfling enclaves and halfling families the world over, members of the Home Gaurd may expect support from any halfling in any land.

Their ceremonial colors are russet red and deep forest green, which they often use to ornament their armor and outfits. Members of the Guard live in various Guard Posts throughout the region, all of which report to the Post in Hearthome. Membership in the Guard is often a family affair, though closely related members are expected to serve time in units outside of their immediate family to develop better teamwork skills.
