Argonar
left-aligned image

Argonar raised an eyebrow at his brothers at some of the words used by Harri. If he were more mistrustful, he might have considered this person some kind of agent planted by the enemy. But he refused to let his worldview be poisoned by a rough morning. He wasn't about to say anything about being agents of the House, but he stuck out his hand for the other man to shake, "Welcome to the team Harri, it's a pleasure to meet you, and I'm glad to see your misfortunes here haven't dampened your spirit."

As they shook, Argonar scanned the newcomer's hands for any rings with the familiar symbol.

Dorin
left-aligned image

"A spell that turned you to stone?" Said Dorin, perking up. "Was it a trap or did someone cast it? What did it feel like? Did you smell rock dust? And now you are free? I don't know of any spell that turns someone to stone with a fixed duration... hmmm...." Dorin started to pace, not waiting for the answers to his rapid barrage of questions and

searching the depths of his memory for any info he could recall that might help them or any oddly terrified looking statues they might encounter in the near future. Turning his back to the party Dorin peered into the darkness at the room Harri came from and muttered "Detect MagicDor a'h fundine" as he waved a hand in front of his eyes and squinted into the blackness.

Henry
right-aligned image

Henry Nodded, "Welcome to the team, Harri, like my brother here said, I'm Henry." the mention of "The House" by the newcomer sent alert bells ringing in his head, but he filed that under questions for later.
The young thief stood back and watched Dorin perform his search as a grin spread across his face. "Dor here is something of a wiz with spells, I'm a discreet item relocation specialist, and Argonar knows how to punch things really hard."

Do You Believe in Magic?Despite Dorin's expert application of mage craft, the room beyond remains dark and inert. And a lot quieter, lacking Hari's muffled shouts for aid.

Harri Keogh
left-aligned image

"The pleasure is mine, my large friend...er, why are you staring at my hands? Is there something on them?"
Asks Harri of Argonar. He holds out his hands, so they can be seen more clearly in the dim light. As he does so, Argonar see's something on Harri's right hand.
left-aligned image

Turning to Dorin, he says.
"A...trap I think, at least I never heard anyone casting a spell to make it happen. The only thing I felt was fear, and I would say numbness as my flesh turn to rock!"
He turns to Henry again, smiling, knowing of the euphemism to which he referred."Good! Then we can both step lightly ahead of the others when stealth is required."

Argonar
left-aligned image

Argonar's fingers flashed to Dorin and Henry, He has a ring of the House. Cautiously optimistic, ask Creyton when we return. to Harri he says, "Just checking to see that you all the way de-fossilized." he claps the newcomer on the shoulder in a friendly fashion, "The race is on to retrieve an item, and I think you're going to be a great teammate. Now Henry we should get moving, and everyone try to stay quiet, the last thing we need is to become dashing statues for the foreseeable future."

Dorin

"Oh he has a thing for hands" Dorin said over his shoulder while not taking his eyes off the darkness of the next room. After a moment he turned toward the others, flashing a smirk at Argonar on the way, and reported "I am not seeing any sign of magic in the next room. Either the trap didn't reset or the caster has left." He caught Argonar's hand signal and subconsciously clasped his hands together.

He lowered the volume on his voice and took a couple steps toward the others. "Oh before we get moving again. I prepared a spell today that makes an area slippery. I thought it would be helpful if we ended up fighting a group of people but didn't want to just throw it out there with nobody expecting. Thought I should mention it, let me know if and when you want me to cast it. If we don't use it here maybe we can make a slide later" he said with a smile

Keep rollin', rollin', rollin'...Eventually, the reek of burned organics settled lower in the room, and while not exactly nauseating neither was the stench pleasant enough to linger for. Henry reached for the slightly melted trick coin and scooped it into his fist, carrying the light with them. Fortunate that he'd managed to nick the lightly enchanted object from Nightcaller earlier in the day; perhaps a bit too fortunate, considering the mark. Still, the light had lasted a few hours already and seemed likely to last several more. With his siblings and new companion grouped around him, the young rapscallion and the Foundlings both new and old moved into the next room together.

Unfortunately, the scene the light reveals in the next room is not a promising one. Nearly the entire room is filled with rubble, creating loose scree that climbs the walls separating the inside of the tower from the out. A crescent of bare floor rounds the inner portion of the room, clearly the core of the tower the rest of the structure is built around. The ravages of time seemed to have skipped the heavy oak door therein set, which stood thick and solid despite the ruined room around it.

DirectionLet me get a [Perception] check with your next actions.

Argonar
left-aligned image

Argonar Stealth 17stepped carefully through the shifting shadows and debris. His nose felt like it was burning slightly on the acrid scent hanging in the air, and the lingering traces of smoke stitched the shadows and light together into a distracting haze. Nevertheless, his eyes were drawn to the intact door, through which the path forward would seem to lead.

Harri Keogh

Harri steps out like the Shadow of a Ghost, if the rest of the group hadn't already known he was there, they would not have struggled to perceive him.
Unfortunately, his mind seemed to have been entirely focussed on himself and his own actions, rather than on his surroundings.....

Henry
right-aligned image

Henry's eyes nearly bugged out of head when he saw the ring, did he ever have questions to ask when they returned to the house. He nodded to the Argonar and started up the stairs with the of them. tossing the glowing coin up and down, the young thief moved with purpose.
Henry didn't put too much effort into stealth, the glowing coin had thrown that particular option out the window. Indeed the first thing he did when he saw that door was beeline right towards it and get out his picks, getting right to business with a big grin.

Of course Harri just about literally stepping out of the shadows completely spooked Henry, he was typically pretty good at going unnoticed, but THAT was something else, the shock of it made him drop his picks all over the ground. "Isralta's underpants! How did you pull that off?" Henry scrabbled for the dropped lockpicks, giving Argonar and Dorin a look, "Don't tell her I know about that." Turning back to Harri, Henry grinned widely, "Seriously that was something else!"

Dorin
left-aligned image

After watching the others enter the room Dorin quietly made his way up to the door and peaked around. He jumped at Harri's reappearance having completely lost track of him when he stopped for a second to look at the stonework of the archway he was now standing in. Dorin stared at Harri's back uncertain if he had just witnessed a master of stealth or a magical effect. His concentration was broken by Henri's remarks. "I don't think I have heard that story," Dorin said with a frown. "Whatever it was you can't have gotten caught, you are still alive."

"How far did you say you got Harri? Was the room this badly damaged? I am concerned that the structural integrity of the tower might be slowly giving way after that earthquake. "

"Huh?" Says Harri, looking confused. "What Earthquake? Nevermind! The tower, yes...we got through it pretty much, but....it looks different. It looked, well cleaner before., and there were a few chairs and tables here and there...odd!"

He points at the door.

"This door leads to a staircase that'll take us up the tower."

And she's buying a stairway...
left-aligned image
It only took a moment of kajiggering before Henry realized that the door wasn't locked, simply jammed, and not even that tightly. Argonar's strength was entirely unnecessary as the slender youth hooked his talented fingers through the pull and yanked. Though the slab itself remained solid, the leather hinges it had been mounted with had long ago rotted away. Henry was forced to leap backwards -nearly bowling over an equally surprised Harri- as the sturdy barrier fell into the room and out of the confining frame.

If any doubted Harri's experience in this place, they need not have bothered. The doorway did, indeed, open onto a central stair that likely ran the height of the tower itself. How long ago, however, was a matter open to debate. Whether through general abandonment or the recent shifting of tectonic plates, the entire staircase had collapsed in on itself. The glowing coin revealed massive chunks of stone filling the tube and cutting off all access to the upper floors.

Meanwhile, the stubby wizard had a look around the ruined room while his siblings investigated the stairs. As previously noted, there was little to see beyond dirt, dust, and general ruin, however... As he turned back to the arch they'd entered through, a hazy beam of sunlight caught him square in the eye. Tracing it back to its source, Dorrin noted that high up, the northern wall had split and been subsequently filled again by the shifting scree, blocking all but that one stubborn ray of outside light. [Perception] As he stood there idling, the dwarf realized that, while rubble climbed the walls in several places, it only reached about halfway up the room's height in most. Beneath the obscured crack, however, the tumbled stone reached all the way to the base of the split.

DirectionDead end! Oh no! Or maybe...

You don't have the equipment you need to excavate the staircase, though it is technically possible. Other than the stair and the way you came, there are no other obvious entrances and exits to the upper levels. Do remember, however, that the outer wall of the east wing is collapsed on more than one level.
