General Setting Information
The Realm of Yallek -General- Note that this information pertains to the realm of Yallek as a whole and may vary slightly depending on civilization or landmass. Players should check here for more detailed information about specific areas of Yallek. Planar Type: Prime Material Population: High Most Populace Races: Humans, Dwarves, Halflings, Half-elves, Skinwalkers Technology Level: European early medieval equivalent Industry Level: Pre-industrial; European early modern (Rennaisance) equivalent Dominant Magic: Divine Magic Familiarity (by spell level):
Time on Yallek is primarily measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, seasons, and years. One minute is the equivalent of sixty seconds; one hour is sixty minutes; one day is twenty hours; one week is eight days; one month is four weeks; one season is four months; one year is five seasons. Variations on this accounting are described under the civilizations that vary from this pattern, described on the continent pages located here. -Biodiversity- Yallek is a semi-isolated plane of existence that hosts a highly diverse population. Most of the races and monsters that can be found within the Pathfinder ruleset can be located somewhere on Yallek, though their existence may be restricted or even lost knowledge and therefore initially unavailable to players. It has a connection to the prime elemental planes and a limited number of ethereal planes. Players should consult further resources located here for more information on the planes connected to Yallek. Most if not all of the physical and statistical characteristics of races and monsters are consistent with the Pathfinder ruleset. However, any and all information relating to society and environment should be checked against specific world information located here. Creatures that only exist on or because of their connection to planes of existence not connected to Yallek (such as wayangs with their origin in the plane of Shadow) likely do not exist in this setting. Check with the GM before assuming the existence of such creatures, as they may exist but with altered inceptions. These are taken on a case-by-case basis. Most of the flora and fauna populating Yallek would be familiar to players versed in real life and Golarion lore. Species unique to Yallek will be described here. -Landmasses and Oceans- The planet the realm of Yallek exists on is spherical in nature and follows an elliptical orbit around a yellow star. It has three primary moons, which range in color from light blue to dark violet. Temperatures range from arctic extremes at the two poles to warmer and more moderate conditions towards the equator. Yallek is composed of three primary landmasses separated by vast bodies of saltwater, as well as large icecaps at both of its poles. The distances between continents are so vast that even the most accomplished of sailors on the most modern of ships are largely ignorant of the existence of lands beyond those of their birth. While most scholars believe the world to be round in nature, attempts at circumnavigation have not been successful. Magic sufficiently powerful enough to prove that circumnavigation is possible is unknown. More detailed information on these landmasses and oceans can be located here. Compass directions on Yallek are labeled East, West, North, and South. Below are listed the primary landmasses and their contiguous oceans, as named by the natives and inhabitants of those continents: Caravan By far the largest of the three continents, Caravan hosts the most diverse topography and ecology. The furthest northern and southern reaches fall within the world's permafrost zones and the continent stretches through every zone in between. Caravan's population is the largest and most diverse by virtue of the landmass's size and hosts the most civilizations. Some of the oldest -but not the oldest- civilizations on Yallek are or were located on Caravan. The oceans surrounding Caravan are the Andric Ocean to the east, the Caravanic Ocean to the southeast, the Ocean of Wastes to the south, the Ocean of Storms to the west, and the Frozen Ocean to the north. Sol Sol is the second largest landmass on Yallek and is notable for being dominated by a single, continent-spanning empire, the Empire of Sol. The Empire is divided into three territories, their borders roughly drawn by the three temperate zones present. The three territories of Falm, Cyndane, and Koranth are ruled by governors who are then in turn under the direction of the Emporer and the High Counselors. Though historians have records of the diverse peoples and cultures that existed before the Empire of Sol, the collective memory of its citizens barely recall that their many different ethnicities and species were once so divided. Despite this apparent cultural homogeny, Sol is a continent rife with political intrigue and struggles for imperial power and relevance. Falm is the furthest northern region and is dominated by rolling hills, softwood forests, and open plains. A chain of islands known as the Euclids are located off its northern shores. It is primarily agricultural. The center of the empire and the home of the emperor is the region of Koranth. The continent's lone dessert, The Unending Sands, dominates the furthest eastern section of the region and stretches south into the permafrost of Cyndane. The last territory, Cyndane to the south, boasts a wealth of mountains and mineral riches, as well as a subtropical jungle. The southern portion of the territory is locked in permafrost. The oceans surrounding Sol are the Ocean of Storms to the east, the Frozen Ocean to the north, the Ocean of Wastes to the south, and the Andric Ocean to the west. Linder In terms of navigable land, Linder is the smallest and least diverse, despite wrapping a full half the globe of Yallek. It is an obscenely long and thin strip of land located almost entirely in the permafrost bordering the southern pole. The far western portion of the continent curls upwards like a hook into subtropical climates that end in a chain of islands. Most of the surface of Linder is mountainous and uninhabitable, and the majority of the people that populate it are nomadic in nature. However, beneath the skin of the world, Linder is dominated by extensive networks of caves and caverns. This is where most of those native to the landmass live, surviving on the warmth of the incredible geothermic activity in the area. It is bordered almost entirely by the Ocean of Wastes, though the westernmost portion of the continent curls up into the Ocean of Storms.
