Alas, the waves have proven too much for Brother Liam. The stoic fellow can hold it no longer, and begins retching on the side opposite of the goeroe while the others discuss how to deal with it.

Morning
right-aligned image

The goeroe's attention flicked from Jane to Fledidi, "Good food smell, I leave now. I hunt easier prey."
IT left and lept up towards Fledidi, snapping mouthfuls of spoiled provisions as it tried to snatch the whole prize. Fledidi, however, managed to judge the distance perfectly, and stayed just out of its (surprisingly high) reach. Meanwhile, the party was left to watch as the beast ate from, reached for, and grew bored of, Fledidi.

Brogg nodded and chuckled as he reached into his pouch. The old toddart proffered a handful of small, fragrant leaves to Liam, "Here, master Liam, chew one or two at a time. These are bogglewort leaves, they'll help relieve your sickness somewhat."

Brogg looked over the Kraghbar, "It's a fairly tough meat, but has a distinct taste and a strong smell. It's something of a special food because it's really quite hard to hunt goeroe."
The berry-picker paused, "You're not thinking about it.. are you?"

Leonora
right-aligned image

Leonora's satisfaction at seeing her plan worked is cut short by the sound of retching, followed by the sound of splashes in the water. Apparently, Liam was having a hard time of it. 'There, there,' she said, trying to put her revulsion from her mind in the face of her companion's needs. 'Get it all out, you'll feel better once you did.' Turning to Brogg, she gives him a questioning look. 'I don't suppose we could pause for a bit?' she suggests. 'Maybe down the river a bit, give poor Liam's stomach some time to settle?'

Kraghbar al-Gruun
left-aligned image

"Sometimes you've got to bleed a little to enjoy your meal, Cad-mune. And that's a whole lot of meal just sitting in the water."

Kraghbar could see it now, leaping from the boat and on to the back of this wide-jawed beast, stabbing into its flesh with his glaive as it tried its level best to devour him whole. A disadvantage in the water might even see it win the day, but was that not the exciting spice which made such conflict worth experiencing. He was set now, weapon at the ready, and to the victor would go the spoils of another day with their belly full!

And then Brother Liam proceeded to lose the entirety of his breakfast. There were a great many things the orc was willing to endure for a good meal, but swimming about in another person's pool of sick was not among them. So there he stood as Fledidi put her plan into motion and led the beast away from the vessels, bringing this encounter to a close.

"Brogg, when we're done finding the folks who need bringing home, I am coming back here to hunt that gogo and smother it's fried remains in garlic and hot sauce. And there woin't be any barfed up leavings to save it then." Kraghbar narrowed his eyes at the feasting beast as it tried its best to devour the fairy before it grew tired of the whole affair. "Hear that, GOGO?! Next time we meet, you're end up in my belly!"

There was a final parting shaking of the fist towards the goeroe, and a silent promise to settle matters with the beast once the time was right.

A thought occurred to the orc as he shouted the threat towards the creature, and just as sudenly as it had come, he snapped his head in Jane's direction, clearly about to make a request of her.

"Think you can translate that last bit to the gogo? I want it to be ready for me when I get back. We'll settle this like hungry folks should, and we'll see who ends up being food at the end of it all."

Liam

Gratefully the man accepts Brogg's offering of bogglewort leaves and begins chewing on one. Brother Liam still appears a bit pale and sweaty, but seems to have composed himself once again. At Leonora's suggestion, he holds up a hand and replies "I appreciate your concern, but no. No sense in delaying our travels. I'll be fine."

Things seemed to be working! Fledidi was indeed leading it away. Jane watched with held breath as the Goeroe attempted to launch itself out of the swamp water to snap it’s jaws shut below Fledidi’s position.

Relieved that the GoeRoe was leaving as it replied to her in a despondent tone Jane started to let her mind wander as she focused less on the spell to speak with it. Then Kraghbar wanted her to translate something for her.

“Oh, Ummm….yeah let me think…” Jane started to pull back on the strands of magic to speak with the Goeroe again.

“My large friend says he will return to hunt you. He wishes for a great battle where one of you will be the meal of the other,” Jane said to the Goeroe as it slowly swam away from the two rafts.

'Very well,' Leonora nodded. 'Just let us know if you start to feel worse. It may be sea sickness...' Leonora pondered, realizing full well they were not actually at sea. 'Or you may have caught some illness. Or have a bad reaction to the food, or the air. We are in strange lands, and we do not yet know what dangers are hidden beneath its beauty.'

Wondering for a moment, relieved to see the Goeroe swim away, she asked, 'did you feel ill on sir Roderick's ship, as well?'

Strange New Worlds

As Harper guided the raft gently to drift near Brogg, she heard Leonora speaking with concern towards Liam. And carefully looked over her companions. Most seemed to have faired relatively well, and Liam had begun chewing on something that had the faint aroma of mint... a calming smell that was probably good for seasickness.

"I think we're going to be left alone for now, at least I hope so. So, are we continuing on? I hope we haven't lost too much time from our unfortunate spill?" The Tiefling intoned "We can always buy more food, or find it out in the wilds... Crew members, on the other hand, aren't so easily replaced..."

Still chewing on the leaves, Liam shakes his head. "No, I was fine on the ship. Well, you know, until we all had a bit of a problem on it that one day..." You can almost see the ghost of a smile on his face. Was Liam actually making a joke for a change?

A bit of previous experience in working with animals seemed to pay off. Fledidi knew that creatures, particularly the more wild or dumb ones, tended to be unpredictable. A safe distance was required, and thankfully "safe" was what she remained to be. Safe as long as her wings didn't fail her!

Eventually, and hopefully, at some point the beast would lose interest in her. No point burning energy for a tiny meal that cost so much strength to lurch at, right? When at last this happened, she buzzed her way back to the raft and lily pad, touching down gently onto the later. It seemed that everyone was ok, although Liam looked decidedly pale.

"Well fancy meeting you all here! So, let's get those oars moving shall we? I'll try everything once, except folk dancing of course, but I'd rather not have to meet that monster thing again."

Larag
right-aligned image

The goeroe arched its head back woefully, “Big food too loud. Hungry hunts for easier meals.”
With that it continued following Fledidi up until the point (which wasn’t too long) that it tired of the new game, and swam off to find something more satisfying to eat.

The rest of the trip passed uneventfully. Although clouds came on again, they never rose above a constant drizzle. Mildly discomforting, but hardly a threat or a disruption. Brogg hums and croaks disjointed tunes as you travel, his long and groaning tunes accented by the constancy of falling rain.

The sun had begun to set when you reached Larag. Unlike Rapploc, Larag had no magnificent trees to build itself up and around. Instead it sprawled across the water on stilts, full of lights and seemingly surrounded on all sides by boats and vessels of all types. Large canoes of shaped bark, lily-pads that stood alone like Brogg’s or were tied together to form large barges, sturdy rafts like the party’s, a few sloops, low but wide round rafts with roofs like houses, and many more.

This array was dizzying to behold, and even in this later hour the docks were bustling with the activity of trade. It made sense to those familiar with commerce, as Larag stood at the mouth of a river and was likely the gateway to the rest of the Swamp Kingdom, the first stopping point for merchants to offload their wares and gather news of what was going on in the land.

Moresoe than Rapploc, other peoples flooded the walkways of Larag. The party could see Missen merchants, Lapine bodyguards, Ottler river-sailors, large badger-folk labourers, local Toddart merchants and officials, and for the first time squat mole-like people who moved in small groups through the crowds.
Obviously a practiced hand, Brogg gently guided his lily-pad into an empty space on the dock. Harper followed close behind, struggling and causing the occasional bump as she went, but nothing serious.
This was little like the sailing on the open waters she was used to. Instead this was the cramped clustering of lake and river trade. But she did admirably for the new situation, and was growing well-accustomed to manoeuvring the raft.

When they finally did dock, a toddart in official garb with a feather in her cap approached them almost immediately with a tablet and stylus in hand. Her eyes widened when she saw the party, seeming stunned for a brief moment. But she managed to quickly master herself and croaked, “Name, business, and point of origin.”

Leonora

Leonora regarded the toddart challenging their arrival in Larag, holding her head askew as if appraising the woman. 'Leonora Arnuanna, the king's business, Rapploc,' she countered. Then, softening her tone a little, she elaborated. 'Prince Ragglink and his guest are out in the swamp. We've been tasked with the honour of joining them on their mission, and providing assistance as needed.'

Squinting her eyes a little, Leonora continued,
Dice Persuasion:

hoping to get some information from the harbour official. 'But the swamp is big, and time is short. Have they passed through here recently, by any chance?'

The toddart nodded and adjusted her hat. She was taking this pretty well. She jotted down a few things in her notebook and casually answered Leonora.
"Oh yes, we've heard all about it. No wonder the king's in a bit of a fit, though I suppose the princess is the more dangerous element there. This isn't the first time the prince has been away from home for longer than he's supposed to be."
She frowns, "He typically sends word back somehow if he's going to be late though, but he was planning quite the expedition, him and that odd new strangeling"
Lookin at the rest of you, the port official corrected herself, "Just a matter of speech, new-folk, I mean no offence."

Brogg chuckled to himself as he continued mooring his lily-pad

The port official waved the matter away, "In any case, the pair came in about a week ago and asked around about strangelings. They ended up moving north to follow rumours of trolls around Loch Gal. A small trading ship came down a day or so after talking all about the odd pair and their movement eastwards from Loch Gal." she pointed off to the left where a small and bulbous ship lay moored on the dock.

"They're the ones who talked to them, apparently, and they've been sitting on the dock for a bit while they negotiate prices for some of their goods."

Leonora

'None taken,' Leonora assured the port official, then remained silent as the toddard continued her report. Inwardly, however, she couldn't help but smile. Eastward from Loch Gal- meaning the Whispering Forest, no doubt. The half-elf took a small measure of satisfaction from the fact that she'd been able to guess sir Roderick's movements.

'Really?' she asked, casting a glance at the bulbous ship. 'We'll have a word with them, then. Thank you for your help,' Leonora smiled. 'Now, are there any customs we are required to observe, while in your fair town?' she asked. 'Any news she would need to be aware of?'

Once the Toddard woman was gone, Leonora took a moment to address their guide. 'Brogg,' she asked. 'The port official mentioned those people over there were negotiating prices. I just wanted to ask, what sort of coinage is used here in Paloro?' She produced a golden coin, a silver coin and a copper coin from her pouch, and held them up for Brogg to see. 'We use these where we come from. Do you use something similar, or...?'

"Them right there? Well that's a buttery load of good luck for us!" Kraghbar's meaty finger was pointed at the trade ship. "Funny looking boat though... oh well, let's get on with getting that info!"

As Leonora investigated the currency compatibility between worlds, Kraghbar decided there was no time to waste on the matter and labored one leg after the other off the small craft Harper had guided to the dock, sauntering on over to begin the questioning.

"Heyoooooo~! Hey you! In the lumpy boat! We've got something to ask you about our humie captain and the missing prince!" The orc was flailing his arms above his head to draw even more attention to himself as he made his approach, heedless of how this would look to the other folk going about their business on the dock, interrupted only occasionally as he narrowly avoided running into a large badger-like individual tying down a knot or barely kept himself from stepping into a group of mole-people he had not quite noticed in his single-minded march towards his goal.
