Technically no, but I my headband gives me max ranks in three skills and Survival is one of them. So though I have no real ranks I have a bonus of +18.

No problem Muggins; glad to have you back. As some of us already know, WW is starting a new game currently, so DM posts may be slow for a bit.

Btw, Chioni's keeping quiet because she has absolutely no place on the front lines.

Ornlu is not only a fuzzy pillow of vicious cuteness, but he also makes a very capable defender due to his animal companion archetype (I didn't even know those existed! Made me happy) and selected feats, he is capable of threatening a large radius as a full round action in which he will be able to move multiple times up to a certain distance and attack any enemy that would normally make movement provoking an attack of opportunity. Spell casters beware

Mental image of that 5 Intimidate check from Hervog. Guy draws himself up, raises his weapon, flexes all his muscles. He is big and scary and awesome! He opens his mouth and..!

'SQUEEK'

A sound like a mouse comes out.

Excuse the confidence-bordering-on-belligerence, but it was the only way I could convey a 40 Intimidate coming from a human girl with 10 Strength. I didn't mean to step on the toes of those who posted before me... although Chioni may have.

I genuinely feel that intimidate should not be just a charisma based skill, there is a feat/racial alternate or some such that orcs can get that makes it based on strength which I think it should be based on, or strength for physical classes and intelligence for mental as a very smart person can be very intimidating if they try hard enough.

Don't forget, you get a +4 if you're bigger than your target. :P

There's a feat that lets you ADD (not replace ) your Str mod to your Intimidate checks. Str+Cha+Intimidate.

And there's a TRAIT that lets you REPLACE your Cha with Int for Intimidate checks.

I don't think, however, that it should be so hard for a Str- based character to be good at intimidating. But if you truly want to shake somebody, I also think that you need to know how their psychology works and be able to exploit it. (Which falls under the domain of Charisma, in my opinion.)

Agreed. Strength to intimidate should be an option but not the standard.

Early game str to intimidate makes sense, but later on the people you are trying to scare have probably faced hundred foot tall sandworms and dragons so a little extra bulk is unlikely to sway them as much.

Intimidation is an exclusively mental process, regardless of the physical condition of either party. Those feats which add strength to the check are simply representative of a more hands-on method.

That's my opinion, anyway.

Agreed with the level dependent part, sadly physical characters just don't have many great options for social skills unless they want to greatly hinder their combat abilities.
