"Quinn, the fundamental issue is, she seems able to enter my home at will, and I have no way of stopping her. Until that is resolved, I can’t see any way forward." Tommy said gently to her, as Quinn has been through a lot right now. He’s trying to not burden her further but it seems futile.

The mention of Luke changes things. "And what did Luke before you leap, do to you?" Tommy inquired, calmly but with murder in his eyes. There was something that definitely happened. Something that he was not privy to. Something at the pool party.

”You’re right, I’m sorry,” Ash says as she turns away from Tommy to address Quinn, feeling shitty for how she was acting. She takes a deep breath in, or at least mimics one; it’s the ritual of it that helps. She shivers and shakes her hands out as she hops up and down a few times, ”This was kinda fun.”

”Fine, I promise I won’t go into your house uninvited again; Scout's honor,” she says as she turns back to Tommy, holding up the middle three fingers on her right hand. ”Actual Girl Scout too, still have the uniform.”

”If it makes you feel any better, I was super professional. Didn’t snoop through your stuff. Didn’t take anything other than what I was asked to take. Just in and out, like two minutes tops, probably like…” she said, trailing off as she remembered they were trying to be nicer.

With the immediate chances of something exciting happening here in the dugout fading fast, Ash turned her eyes back on the field and wandered over to the railing. She tried to see how things were going with the injured ballplayer; tried to get some idea of how she was doing.

"I don't get it. I could break into your place and steal your stuff. Believe me, I've thought about it." Quinn stops and looks to Ash as she expresses her commitment not to do it again. It should be just that easy, right? Problem solved. For a moment Quinn tries to picture Ash in a scouts uniform, but she just ends up picturing her out of one and as much as she'd like to spend time in that head space it doesn't really solve anything. But something else Ash says catches her attention and she turns to Tommy as Ash steps over to watch the field, lowering her voice as she eases closer to him.

"Luke's a werewolf. You can probably get that answer from context." She doesn't want to elaborate but doing so might just keep this on the right track. Might just keep Tommy focused on her. She undoes the top button of her uniform and pulls the undershirt away from her shoulder, the trail of band-aids marking each wound. "I know how you feel about Luke, but you need to understand that he's not violent because he wants to be. He didn't want to hurt me, its just part of being what he is." She pauses for a moment, then steps further off that cliff. "And I'm not different from him. There is something really wrong inside me and it just gets harder and harder to hold it back." She brings her fingers to her wrist and works the clasp off the bracelet. The one with her name on it, leaving only the one with her brothers behind. Pressing it into his hand, she closes his fingers around it by wrapping his hand in hers. "If you are doing this to help people, to keep people safe, then you need something from me as much as you need something from Luke." She turns, just her head, to stare at Ashs back for a long moment.

"Ash is a good person, Tommy. I know you all have beef but please try to believe me." She does her best to present that as fact, because it is something she genuinely believes. "You should tell her why you're doing this. I really think she would understand better than most." Releasing her grip on his hand, she takes a deep breath and then steps over to the railing beside Ash, her voice still quiet.

"I think this game is done. Probably going to have to talk to coach for a minute but...can we still hang out?"
OOCI believe that bracelet should meet the qualities of a Sympathetic Token by all accounts.

The conversation you're having is attracting a lot of attention from various spectators. (Unless I missed something and you went somewhere more private. Even then, tempers are rising and it seems to me you're talking / arguing fairly loudly.)

As for the catcher, she's got a major concussion but is slowly coming to. The opposing coach is calling for some EMTs to give her some proper medical care.

”Looks like she’s coming to, so that’s good,” Ash says as Quinn joins her by the railing, matching Quinn’s volume as she feels eyes on her, on all three of them. Moving into the dugout hadn’t done enough to keep the looky-loos away, and people did love some drama. At least they were far enough away that it was unlikely that any of them heard anything. Rehearsing a play? she thought briefly as some kind of excuse for the strangeness of it all. ”Of course we can hang out.”

She looks at her friend, clearly seeing the worry on her face, ”Hey, it was an accident. Go talk to the coach, I’ll wait over by the stands until you’re done.” Ash rested a hand on Quinn's forearm, before stepping back from the railing and leaving the dugout, heading for the rapidly clearing out bleachers.

Tommy looks impassively as Ashraqat makes her promise. Anyone can make a promise, and he really hopes she keeps it. It would be unfortunate if he would have to hex her. A part of him felt he should have, to make point. Tommy nods his assent to her promise, just wanting this interaction to be over, and hope to never have to speak with her. Quinn didn’t really get it, he would have felt just as violated by a break in by her, but Ashraqat had beaten her to the punch. It could have been anyone really.

Raised an eyebrow as Quinn joins the Luke apologist tour. Apparently he was a better liar than Tommy gave him credit for. Luke was a thug so in love with violence, if violence was a band, he would be the groupie passed around by the band members. It was a choice for him to stay amongst humans. Luke could have chosen to run away to nature, but he didn’t. Quinn payed the price for that. Tommy didn’t argue though.
Quinn offers him a token. "I think that’s sensible of you. We’ll need to talk about what happened tonight."
She mentions telling Ashraqat about what he’s doing might be a good thing. His response is blunt and to the point. "She already knows too much."

Quinn leaves him to talk to Ashraqat. Apparently they’ve somehow gotten closer in the time between when she left his house and him arriving here. Small prang of jealousy is felt, but he puts any possibility of anything happening between him and Quinn in a mental box, stowed away in the recesses of the vault of his mind. Better this way. Less complications. Tommy tries to leave the ballpark.

Watching both of her friends leave the dugout leaves her conflicted. Ash and Tommy are so polarly different and, honestly, neither of them seem like the kind of people that would even gravitate toward Quinn. But they had, and she feels like they both actually want what is best for her. Of course, all three of them probably have different views on what that ultimately is. Having them at odds like this is difficult. Tommy already has a major hate-on for Luke and now he and Ash are ice in a blizzard. If he starts in on Morgan he'd hit the trifecta of hating her other friends. Hell, right now she kind of hates her other friends.

Stepping out after checking with the coach, she heads off the locker room. Fresh in her mind is what Ash said, and what she'd done her best to keep off Tommys radar. Peeling off the uniform, she ducks into the shower for a quick rinse and then pulls on her outfit. The Slayer t-shirt, the hoodie, jeans faded at the knees and frayed at the hems. Heading out with her backpack on her shoulder, she makes for the bleachers and Ash. The closer she gets, the more her nerves spark little electric signals that make her skin tingle. Her stomach, so often home to that gnawing, angry hunger, flutters light with anxious butterflies instead.

"Hey." She steps up to where Ash has been waiting. She doesn't realize the smile has crept onto her lips until well after the deed is done. Even after the hit and the conversation in the bathroom and the blowup with Tommy, standing here with Ash is the most comfortable she's felt in a week. Which is why her stomach sours a bit as she brings those words to mind again. She weighs the value of bringing it up against what she might lose if the conversation turns bad, and it hurts to accept that she still has to know.

"I don't want to make a big deal about this but if I don't ask it now I know it will come out later and I really only want to think about later stuff later." What does that even mean? Have you never used words before? Are you fundamentally stupid? Now you're talking in your head and she's just looking at you. Say something, idiot!

"You said asked." Maybe that's not enough information to make a connection. "You said you only took what you were asked to." Quinn tips her head forward a bit, the question implicit in the words. Who asked?

"Was this not just you thinking Tommy was hurting people? Was this something bigger?"

Ash, the Ghost

Waiting on the bleachers, Ash watched the people leaving the ballpark for what seemed like an eternity. Most people ignored her, as most people tended to do, but a few shot her a look as they went.

”Hey.” Ash turns to respond to the greeting in kind, pulled from her thoughts by Quinn's approach. She looked good, tired maybe, and still worried, but good; better. Ash can't help but raise an eyebrow at the word ‘later’; at least she wasn't the only one with wandering thoughts. ”Yeah, I wondered if anyone caught that.”

”Let's say it was a concerned member of the PTA,” Ash said after a moment of silent thought, rubbing her knuckles on the fabric of the shirt she was wearing; Morgan's shirt. She had never considered herself particularly superstitious, but now she was a ghost who knew a werewolf, and figured it was just safer not to say the name out loud. ”I don't trust people with power. I know they're not on the level, I'm not stupid. Still said yes, though, if only to get out from under that marker.”

”Tommy can say what he wants, but he has power too, enough to earn him some dark and powerful enemies.” She finally turns her head to look Quinn in the eyes. ”I burned the tokens so no one had them, and I don't regret that. Do you really want someone controlling Luke? With what he can do? People with weapons generally use them, and usually on those who can’t fight back. Put a weapon like that in Tommy's hand and he'll do the same, eventually. I'd rather not wager our lives against the impulse control of a sixteen year old boy.“

Ash turned her eyes in the direction Tommy had gone, wondering what he was going to do next. After a moment she turned back with a smirk, before giving Quinn a playful bump with her shoulder, ”So, what's this ‘later stuff’ that you’re thinking about? Something scandalous?”

Quinn, the Ghoul
"Okay, but you have to admit that's a weird way to put it." A concerned member of the PTA, so an adult. Maybe a teacher. She shrugs a bit and nods in agreement with what Ash says, not willing to push the issue of identity more than she has. It occurs to Quinn that her dad would like Ash. Cops, politicians, rich pricks with more money than sense. They could probably go back and forth for awhile on that topic. He'd probably make her an honorary Mallory. They're similar in the good ways, and thankfully completely different in the bad ones.

"I want to be clear. I'm not judging you. Whatever you did, you had your reasons and I trust you. More than anyone, really." And it had gone that way so quickly. She'd nursed a crush on Luke for years and never said anything. Same with Morgan, but that was complicated. Ash is just as complicated, though. And the friendship is newer. Still, Quinn trusted her with her secrets. Most of them. "And you're right. What Tommy can do scares me. What Luke can do scares me, too. What I can do scares me. Maybe I want to trust Tommy because he's the kind of person I shouldn't trust. And maybe it's easier to do that cause I know you've got my back." She turns to find Ash facing her and she falters in that moment. She could say anything in response. Backpedal. Say she's too tired to hang. Blame the hit or the argument. But now is the time to be brave.

"I thought I was pretty clear before." She smiles, a small and quiet thing, and leans over to bump her shoulder against Ashs in return. Doing that lets her fingers graze over the back of Ashs hand, an intentional touch. "We could put on a movie we've both seen. Talk about what all this 'being dead' stuff means. Just a couple of corpses being philosophical. Dead girls forever, right?" Quinn leans against the fence, her head dipping to the side and spilling damp hair across her shoulder. This day had been awful. The library and all its crap. Tommys place and his mixed signals. The game and all its drama. But she would live it all again to get to this point. To put out in the world what she wants. What she's wanted for so long in the dark.

"Or we don't talk about that. Maybe we don't talk at all." She draws in a slow breath, trying to keep Ashs eyes as her focus. To keep her wants in the front of her mind, to stay strong against her own doubts and fears. And in doing that she falls deeper into those eyes and the soul they're a window to. Glen had been her first and there was friendship there but it just kind of happened. Of course the worries linger that this could go the same way, but that just makes it more important that she be intentional about it.

"Damn, Ash. How can you make me feel so comfortable and so nervous all at once?" She turns to face the other girl directly, less aware of the lingering bodies in the stands around them. Ash had been clear about this. Not here, but somewhere else. Ashs house, probably a way better option than her own. "I just want to be somewhere else with you. I want to feel alive again. I want that for you, too."
OOCOkay, in reading this post I don't think I can avoid this being a Turn On. I put in some stuff to directly tie into their shared state of undeath to leverage Ashs morbid condition. Might as well since I gave it to her. Sadly, I think this is a regular Turn On and not an Endings turn on, as it feels weird to use Endings repeatedly on the same person. How often can you detail your gory demise and have it make sense?

Oh, Hex. I realized I took that +1 Forward from Satiety with Paul in scene 3 and forgot to apply it to the next roll I made which was the Turn On in this scene, which is also the only roll I've made in that time. I get it if you want to say it is lost but I'd really appreciate being able to apply it here if you can forgive the bookkeeping error. I promise to be more vigilant in the future either way.
Dice Turn On with Morbid:
2d6+1 (6, 1)+1 Total = 8

Looks like a partial success regardless. Not bad.

Turn on one forward
OOC: A +1 forward only lasts until the end of the current scene. It's a +1 to act on the current situation. So, unfortunately, that was lost when the scene ended.

Ash: Please choose a reaction to being Turned On.

”Hey, judge away. I think it’s pretty clear from my track record that I don’t make the best decisions when I’m upset.” Ash knew she’d have to clear things up later, because she agreed with what Quinn had said before, about secrets being poison. That was more between her and Tommy, but she wasn’t sure that him finding out the truth about Mr. Bell was going to be good for anyone. Ash winced a little as she thought the name, but hid it behind a hand that she raised to run through her hair.

”My, oh my,” Ash says, fanning herself with that same hand, ”you’ve sure given this a lot of thought, Miss Mallory.”

She can play it cool only because she’s dead. If she were still alive, that last line, maybe we don’t talk at all, would have had her doubled over, hyperventilating into a paper bag. There were a lot of things about being dead that Ash didn’t care for, but being able to talk to people, people she cared about, was a real gift. A new 'life', a new school, a new start, and it was all going pretty well so far. She’d been a lot of things when she was alive, but social hadn’t been one of the words used to describe the young musician.

”We don’t have to decide anything just yet,” Ash says as she looks to the dark skies heavy with rain just waiting to fall. She nods her head towards the parking lot, ”We can go to my place. Hopefully we make it before the rain starts since it’s a bit of a walk. Unless you have your car?”

OOCAsh will give a string to Quinn

"Yeah, Ash Cat." Quinn hasn't used the girls nickname before, only heard it thrown around by others who are more familiar, but she kinda likes the way it sounds. She feels the slow creep of warmth up her neck. That embarrassing shade of pink that she can never hide, the natural pale of her skin practically clear against it. "It may have occupied a few of my nights." And a few of her days. She hopes that doesn't come across as creepy as it sounds in her head. But creepy is kind of her stock in trade now so why not own it? If everything she's shown Ash up till now hasn't driven her away she can probably handle a bit more weird. All aboard the 7:30 to Freaktown. Tickets, please.

"Go as long as I have being bad at saying what you want and you get addicted to the truth pretty quick." She pauses, glancing down at her hands for a long moment. Could she actually do that? Get addicted to the truth? Is it that much stranger than stealing things or working people up? In how many bizarre directions could these appetites take her? How long could she keep the ones he has in check? The risk is very real, and its been on Quinns mind basically all the time since it started. Coloring her choices, putting caution in the way of want. But it only takes a single glance at Ash the moment she drags a hand through her hair to convince her. So totally worth it.

"Dads discipline playbook, page 2. Take the keys." She shrugs, a bit disappointed that she didn't just snag the spare she knows they keep in the utility closet. The car would get them there faster and faster seems so much better than slower in this instance. She steps away from the fence in the direction of the parking lot. "I'll steal you one if you want." She's pretty deadpan as she says it, and given her reputation one might be forgiven for not taking that as a joke. She stops a few steps away and look back over her shoulder motioning with the fingers of a hand held down by her side. A beckoning wiggle of digits in the direction she's headed.

"I don't really mind the rain anymore." The rain, the cold. None of it seemed to have the impact it once did. She's always cold, a chill from inside of her rather than out. So many layers and it does so little against that. She glances up to the sky and feels the heaviness in the air. That weight that comes with imminent precipitation, the cycle of nature in full effect. "Besides, it would take a tsunami to stop me now." A genuine wall of water, complete with uprooted houses and tractor trailers. And even then, maybe she'd just have to learn to surf. Tucking her hair back, she pulls the hood up on the sweatshirt and breathes deep of the evening air.

"What do you say? I'll swim if you will."
OOC
Location shift? I can gladly look to Star to set that up. If they arrive rain-soaked, all the better.

”Check this out. Haunted, not haunted, haunted, not haunted,” Ash said while hopping back-and-forth from the cemetery grounds to the sidewalk. Finally coming to a halt with a satisfied chuckle she pointed at a treed hill on the other side of the graveyard. ”My house is up there, but cutting through here knocks a half hour off the walk. Sounds weird, a ghost ‘living’ next door to a cemetery, but I didn't even realize this place was here until they buried me over there.”

Ash looked around for a moment, her eyes looking at anything but Quinn for a moment, before she finally gave in with a shrug and embarrassed grin. She had pulled the other girl away from the offer of grand theft auto, and instead enjoyed the brisk walk, punctuated by both fevered discussion and awkward silences. ”Anyway, we should get going.”

Quinn laughs at that. Maybe too much. It's silly and dumb and genuine. All the things people her age try not to be. But Ash just wears it and it fits. She follows where the other girl points and despite everything she knows and is, a chill creeps down her spine at the sight of the place. She'd only ever gone to two funerals in her life, and of those only one burial. Horror flicks have told her that bad things go down in places like this, but she falls in step with Ash without protest. Who better to walk through a cemetery with than a ghost?

"So you're completely separate from your body?" She studies Ash as they weave along old and overgrown paths. Had she ever said she was a ghost before? Quinn feels like she would remember that. "And you don't have weird cravings or compulsions?" She shoves her hands into the pockets of her hoodie, eyes shifting to the ground to check for open pits or unnatural movements. "No impulse control issues? I mean, beyond any you had before?" No, just hanging out with Ash in the time they had was enough to show her the difference. Ash doesn't have the same hangups that she does. In a lot of ways, really. "I don't get it. I mean, we're both dead but we're definitely not built the same. You know where your body is and I'm still dragging mine around like luggage." She frowns a bit, reaching out to drag her fingers over the top of an aged gravestone as she passes. There never seems to be a piece that fits in the puzzle that is her unlife.

"So you're a ghost, and you know your body is buried." She turns back to focus on Ash as she starts to question. "But you look just like I remember you from before. I mean, maybe a little taller." Quinn steps up close to Ash to compare height, which causes her to have to look down into the other girls eyes again. "Eh, maybe not." A soft grin pulls at the corners of her mouth as she steps back to keep walking at her side.

"But I can see you. I can touch you." Can I touch you? "And you can touch things." It all feels like a really big gray area in the whole ghost motif. "I guess I just thought the whole intangibility thing was a big deal for ghosts. Can't trust the movies at all." Her foot catches a divot or a root and she stumbles a few steps, catching herself on the nearest tree to avoid a full on sprawl in the dirt. How can one person be all limbs and have zero awareness of them? She keeps talking, hoping to avoid the awkwardness of pointing out that stumble.

"So what else? Do you still eat? I mean, you breathe, right? Can you smoke? Do you get high or drunk? I saw you with that beer at the party but it seemed like more of a fashion accessory." Quinn stops, a hand held up in Ashs direction to request the same, and she kneels down to work the laces of her right shoe back into a proper bow. Man, when they aren't throwing movie quotes back and forth these conversations can get kinda deep. It feels a little invasive asking so much but she's honestly more curious about this than she's been about anything in awhile.

"Any ghostly powers to brag about?"

Ash, the Ghost

”Oh, I doubt there’s much of a body left down there,” Ash muses as Quinn asks about her old self. She could go look, but even she isn’t that morbid, not to mention the fear of getting lost underground, and digging with a shovel seems like a lot of work for something she doesn't really want to see. ”Linen shroud, no coffin. Very traditional for an untraditional girl.”

She laughs at ‘impulse control issues’, shaking her head as she thinks back on the last five days. Her eyes turn to Quinn and stare at her carefully as the laughter fades, ”So many issues, but maybe not in the way you mean.”

”Nope. Not taller, prettier, curvier, nothing. Meet the new Ash, same as the old Ash,” she says and does a spin with her arms held out. ”Forever.”

She steps closer to Quinn as she stumbles, but stops short of reaching out as the redhead catches herself, ”Yes, you can touch me, and I can touch you, and, uh, other things.”

”Look, as far as I can tell, all of this functions the way it’s ‘supposed’ to. I can see, feel, hear, touch, because a body does those things. I don’t have to sleep, breathe, or eat, because a ghost doesn’t have to do those things. I can get high because I know that’s what’s supposed to happen if I smoke, and my skin is paler than before because I’m dead.” Ash frowned, having said a whole lot of nothing. She took a deep breath in, then exhaled, or at least appeared to, ”I don’t breathe and yet doing that relaxes me, because it’s supposed to."

Ash steps in front of Quinn, putting her hands on her shoulders as she looks around the cemetery for anyone else that might be out this late with the threat of rain, but sees no one. They’re almost to the overgrown steps that lead up the hill to her house, and whatever else was going to happen. With a faint smile she takes a step back and lifts up off the ground, only a foot or so, wincing as the guitar case and Morgan’s shirt fall through her to the soft grass. The shirt isn’t her, or hers, and doesn’t come along. The guitar? Well, the guitar can go to hell. Why won’t you just f!@#ing work?

”Powers? I mean, I am a ghost,” she says as she floats in a circle around Quinn, passing through air and granite headstones with equal ease, all while keeping her eyes on her friend. Ending up where she started, she lands on the grass and steps forward, resting her hand on Quinn's arm. ”Everything I said is true, and yet when you touched my cheek earlier, it felt like my heart stopped and my breath caught in my throat. I don’t know if that’s what’s supposed to happen, but I think it's what I wanted to happen.”

OOCTurn On attempt - 6. Not that I wanted to fail, but I will take that XP so Ash can have her first advance.
