Jimmy jumps a foot and a half as Robert speaks. "Jesus H!! Don't sneak up on people in this place kid! You'll give someone a heart attack!" Jimmy is secretly glad for the scare, as it broke the hypnotic state he was in.

Jimmy turns around so he doesn't get mesmerized again.

"I vote all the food goes in the trash, but I want to send the birthday hitch stuff to my ex... after I remove all the birthday references that is!" Turning to examine the freezers while avoiding the sight of the birthday stuff, Jimmy calls over his shoulder.

"This piece of crap must have been broken even longer than I originally thought! Why else would there be birthday **** inhere from the back end of time? Somebody throw me another damnable flashlight please, I wanna see what else is back here!" Jimmy must be feeling something off somehow. Nobody had probably realized he even KNEW the word please.

"The adrenaline will keep you young, " Robert said cheerfully, ducking around his two co-workers as he wandered deeper into the freezer, fingers trailing the (arguably) preserved foodstuffs. Something crunched underfoot.

There was a whirl of gears and a gentle click before something began to spin. A wisp of music, so thin and delicate so as to nearly be drowned out by the sound of moving boxes and the hum of dilapidated freezers, began to play.

Robert frowned, disappearing from the glare of the light as he searched the ground. A moment later he was back up, holding a music box. A cracked ballerina spun in a slow circle on top of a glittery plastic box.

He shrugged sheepishly.

"I wouldn't mind having a flashlight of my own either."

"Nah, never seen it... bitch." Robert feels a hat drop onto his head from behind as the Flashtorch is thrust into his hand.

Any noise that Tyler and Victor may be making fades into the distance. The freezer is eerily quiet without the usual incessant hum that it must have had when it was running.

There are other things on the shelves, a little further in. Jac gets her wish: a big tub of mint-chocolate chip. More wrappers. Cardboard flats with marble sized, wrinkly, black, apples. The back of the freezer is elusive and the whole thing goes farther back than anybody had thought. The heat is impressive, and the music box threatens to put Jimmy, and everyone else, back into the weird little trance.

No lazers, hmmn? Narsis?

Somebody clumps down the weedy little staircase back in the other direction. You know, outside of the freezer. Heavy footfalls on the creaky wood make barely a ripple inside the stagnant, silent, cage.

"Hey, where the puck are you guys?" It's Joe. "Hello? Helloo!"

His voice moves away. Away from the stairs, and away from the freezer. Pretty soon his muffled greetings are inaudible.

(According to his signature "Lazers has IRL complications currently, normal service will resume shortly.")

Apparently immune to the mind-altering potential of freon-based freezers, Robert accepted both the flashtorch and the insult with an intimidatingly minty smile.

"That's a pity," he said, swinging the flashlight around. A walk-in freezer shouldn't have been able to loom, but this one was."It was a fun lil' horror movie: five teens wander into the basement of some big-ass corporation that's creating horror scenarios to placate like Cthullu or something." With barely any effort he opened the tub of chocolate chip, shining an inquisitive light onto its contents before poking a finger into the ancient sweet and casually licking the tip.

"Not bad," was the verdict."Anyway, the objects chosen choose the horror movie scenario. So like that music box would summon, I dunno, cannibalistic zombie ballerinas."

"Yeah, they don't make like they used to back in year 1345... Seriously? Man eating ballerinas? That's got to be the dumbest thing you've ever said." Jac pauses for thought as the enormity of that statement sinks in. "Huh. Well done!"

Then she heads deeper into the freezer, avoiding any former foodstuffs she encounters along the way.

"It came out last year, actually," Robert said, assuming that Jac was referring to the movie. Her abrasiveness was almost second nature by now and easily ignored. "You really need to get out more oft..."

As Jac went in deeper, he realized a silence that had been there that shouldn't have been. Slowly, Robert turned around.

"Jay?" he asked, swinging the flashlight around. "Yo, Jay?"

But the entrance to the freezer was empty. Telling himself that Jimmy had gone to get a flashlight, Robert turned once again, trooping in after Jac. He liked to think of himself as rational and well-adjusted, but there was something weird about this basement. Light and sound disappeared too quickly.

Or maybe that was the chocolate chip punishing him for his presumption.

Eh, worth it.

This is gonna be awesome.

After getting his wits about himself, Tyler had wandered over to the freezer everyone else was exploring. That things freaking huge! he thought. He was going to hop in and join the exploration, that is until he heard Robert comment on The Cabin in the Woods movie. A plan began to form in Tyler's mind, and a grin followed soon thereafter. He ducked around the side of the freezer and began following the outside of it.

Being as quiet as possible, he dug through some of the boxes and junk lying around until he found it: a nice big metal pole. He picked it up, mustered as much strength as he could, and at the side of the freezerswung.

It does exactly what Tyler would expect, barring a big bend at the end of the pole, an unpleasant but temporary vibration of the phalanges, and a literal foosh whoosh explosion of dust. Boy is covered.

Sound hits the inside of the freezer definitely more thump, or thud, than boom, but loud nevertheless.

Robert jumped, hand holding the flashlight swinging wildly.

"What the heck was that?!"

Jimmy

Jimmy snaps out of the trance he was in with an explosive breath out. "What in the blazes??"

Jimmy runs out of the freezer and looks on both sides until he sees Tyler, and starts yelling at him at the top of his lungs. "Damnit, punk! Are you going to help or just be a nuisance? My hearing was bad enough BEFORE you did that!!!"

There is movement in the freezer. Non-Jac, non-Robert, non-Jimmy movement. A particularly dilapidated old box wriggles across the littered floor in the beam of Jac's flashtorch, and then something bursts free of it and runs out the door. Something roughly cat-sized, with horns and wings. But that couldn't be right... could it?Just before it rushes around the corner, charges through Jimmy's legs, and bounces off into the greasy dark using Tyler's foot as a springboard, you can see something big and shiny in its mouth.

Crashes and skittering sounds of overturned trash and small plastic containers bouncing across the floor follow the winged cat's invisible progress through the dark. It goes roughly in the direction that Joe went only a few short minutes ago, towards the back wall of the basement.

Jac doesn't jump at the boom sound, but she certainly pauses and blinks a few times. Bluh? The hell wassat? Oh. Tyler humour. Damn it man, that was loud. She grins to herself, as much because of the others' reactions as anything. Jac has always approved of Tyler. She's always maintained he's a moron too, but a better moron than most.
She says a lot of damning stuff like that to people who know her. They all know better than to take it to heart.

When the strange creature runs past her, she gasps in delight. "Critter!"
She gives chase, bounding past the others and clambering after it, shunting aside whatever looks light enough and going over or around the rest. There's no escape for you now, you, uh... thing! What the hell are you, anyway? Need a look at you with the reading glasses on or something.

If you think that the critter caused lots of loose bits to go flying out of the way, and bounce all over the place, and cause a bit of a ruckus, you clearly hadn't imagined Jac Winter attempting to follow in its path. Cardboard boxes fly and old furniture splinters. It's simply not possible to move at a good clip through these waters without kicking up a bit of sand.

If nobody follows her quickly, she'll be out of sight relatively soon, but probably continue making plenty of noise especially where it starts getting darker.
