welcome!

Glad you joined us. What enticed you to try PbP? Was it our sparkling personalities here? Or happenstance?

Whatever brought you here, luck, fate, happenstance, or kismet, I hope you enjoy it. Happy gaming!

So, to be honest, I've been looking for a way to fit TTRPG playing into my limited time. After digging around the internet, this site was recommended in a reddit post. I poked around and it looked like the right place to give this a try.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Goodmorning Torched,

Awesome username and welcome over here! Best place to poke around is the Crossing indeed. Cool, we were spotted on Reddit :-)
So since this is your first play-by-post adventure, what have you been playing (IRL?) before?
What systems and/or mechanics are you familiar with?

Welcome to the site, Torched! Join some games and careful with fire. Unless, of course, you're playing a pyromancer ...

Howdy Torched,

And I think you have come to the right place to find some good games. I started playing tabletop a long time ago and PbP was really never in the mix. Then I deployed somewhere I couldn't get a game together and PbP became the only was to play. To tell you the truth, it's my favorite way to play now.

Tell us a bit more about yourself. Which is your favorite genre, do you prefer high magic, low magic, historical fiction, high tech, horror, sci fi/future tech etc.? Do you have a favorite character class, race? Do you have a preferred RPG system? If so, do you have any plans to try other RPG systems? Do you know how much wood a woodchuck chucks, if a woodchuck, could chuck wood?

There are a lot of choices for various RPG systems here, although PF and D&D are the two most common. We have quite a few games with very long legs here. In fact, I talk about one below. To start, you may want to check out a solo game. This will help you learn the site tools, since each site is a bit different.

As far as finding games goes, try here. This is where there are games seeking players. It can be a bit daunting but don't give up. It may take a few applications before you get accepted...but it's worth it once you're in. This is a great place to scratch your RPG itch and interact with some great DMs and players. There is some incredible role playing going on here. I thought I was a pretty good story teller, but I have been put to shame by the quality of many of the players...and I have learned a lot.

This is a place where the people are welcoming, where the games are interesting, and where generally they only expect you to post a few times a week. I've been playing D&D for a very long time and I thought I've seen it all, but this site has some amazing games going on. I've been playing (storytelling as much as rolling) for a few years now in a game that has been going on continuously for four decades, started tabletop and moved online two decades ago. It's set in an alternate Europe where the worlds of Tolkien and Howard existed in ages past. So there is a hint of LOTR and a hint of Conan in it and since it's set in an alt Europe it somehow feels familiar.

This is just one example and there are other great campaigns on RPGX. You should take some time to "stroll around" the site and see if anything catches your eye.

I hope to see you around on the boards.

Hi New! I'm Crimson!

Now with the dad joke out of my system, welcome to RPGx. I feel like a new player myself, it's been so long since I've been here. But I had to come back because... we're awesome! As I'm sure you'll soon see. RPGx can feel like home once you're familiar with the layout. At least, it does for me. I hope it will for you too soon! Happy gaming!!

Right now I'm just looking to play DnD 5E. I did play Eclipse Phase many years ago. It was fun, but not looking to do that currently. I don't know if I have a favorite type of RPG, but I do like fantasy in general

Welcome, Torched! There are plenty of DnD 5E games on the site, so hopefully you'll find a few that spark your interest. I must say that I enjoyed playing a bit of Eclipse Phase a few years ago. What a cool RPG. I hope you enjoy PbP!

IRL I've done a couple of sort of one off sessions of DnD, low level. Played a wizard in one and a barbarian in the other. The barbarian was pretty effective, but I really like wizards (in my head at least, lol)

I also played a one session of Eclipse Phase must be nearly a decade ago now. Was very interesting, but not looking to do that here yet.

Thank you for the compliments and the warm welcome! It's nice to meet you

Ok, well let me see.
My favorite genre (outside of ttrpgs) is sci-fi, but I think for ttrpgs I don't have enough experience to have a favorite? I really like the high magic setting of DnD, so let's say I'm leaning toward that. I've tried Eclipse Phase before. While the session was kinda crazy at the end, I really enjoyed it. I'm just not leaning toward that right now.

In terms of classes, I conceptually like wizards, but I've played a barbarian and that was really more enjoyable than I expected.
I'm not sure how much wood a woodchuck could chuck, but I suppose I would start by trying to figure out the amount of mass a woodchuck could move on a daily basis, assuming average feeding and sleeping habits. Then we'd have to consider the woods most likely to be near a woodchuck if it were chucking wood? Unless it's in an experimental setting, then we need to discuss the type of wood itself. Are we thinking a sustainable pace for chucking the wood or is it a maximum effort sprint and done? Hmm.

Your setting sounds fascinating. I know LOTR, but I'm much less familiar with Conan. But thank you for the really warm welcome and the suggestions and insights
