burnt out on gaming no but with writing and drawing yes. As for gaming I find it very hard to find a game that goes even as far as lv 3. on here I've played 3 games to completion no chs above lv 2. Most the time those never get a game. I'm in several games atm 1 dead. and 2 on hiatus and a few unknown status. I'm burn out on creating things that don't get used I have deleted 6 cha here and still have 3 that have never gotten a game.

also expierancing lots of players dissappearing even dms. kinda kills the mood for playing online.

Yes, in fact I'm only just now trying to come back from a period of prolonged absence. I guess it happens when I try to overstretch myself and I think I realise and accept that as far as online gaming goes, its so easy to take things on without stopping to think about what I can and can't actually do. And that's the hardest thing to do in the world because when it goes well you think you're invincible in that online space and then just take more and more on until you get to the inevitable crash.

How do you recover? In my case taking a long long stretch away to recharge the batteries and getting yourself in a state where you do believe you are capable of coming back, this time being mindful of what your limits are.

I tend to stick with a fairly* hard goal of 3 games, maximum, of which only two would I be GMing. I've realised that when I try to do more, even if I think I have the time for it, I invariably end up not showing up as much for one or more of the games.

*Occasionally I will dip into 4 games, but usually only if there's a slow posting rate for one, and at least one of the games is either wrapping up shortly or is intended to be a fairly short one-shot.

I could play 6-10 games easily write short stories and post pages of my books. And still make time to draw. All while playing stfc and watching DVDs.

But I'm a very active person. lol. lately though most my games seem to be 1 post every week, or 1 every month or 1 every 2-3 months. So the only burn out is all these forced build new chs and never use them cause no one accepts them in a game.

Also I'm just a player I hate dm ing. I can't stand not playing a ch. or the fact dm feels like work and your only working to me. So I stick to playing as it's fun..

I think thatís the key, to having a basic understanding of what you are capable of. Knowing and having those hard limits is the first part, but not giving into temptation after you have set those limits is equally as hard, if it more difficult. I can do probably 1 game GM, 1, maybe 2 games playing. I think doing more than that is opening myself up to a world of hurt. Starting something is the easiest thing to do online, actually following it up to completion is a 1000 times more difficult.

I love trying out new game systems. The problem I have is that I am usually the one who ends up GMing all the time. It would be nice to be a player, but, most of the game ideas that I'm really interested in, nobody wants to Master. And that's another burn out issue I have, is I've known people who adore the process of building characters. They problem is, that they'd rather make a thousand different characters, but then spend like zero time developing them through actual Role Play.

I had a burnout a couple times. One stopped me playing for a couple years. There are a few things that can help (and a lot of Youtube videos that bring this up). 1) Say "Hey, I am really struggling with GMing right now. Can someone take over (preferably in a new game)?" 2) Take a break. Be careful with this as it is easy to go from break to not playing. 3) Play an entirely new system. There are a lot of systems with very light rules that can be quickly picked up for a couple months.

I took almost a 20 year break from gaming once. And it's a good thing I did, because everything was new when I returned.

Same here.

Although still played TT Wargames occasionally, I left the RPG scene for a good 18 years. Then I found RPGX...

My bookcase is full, and not with novels.

Both excited and overwhelmed as there are so many new systems. I used to play PBP on a very old site years ago so was familiar with the concept. Now im keen to learn some new stuff (bought Cypher for instance) but the games seem popular and hard to get in to.

Majority of the community are great, so settling in was pretty easy.

Found it difficult, and still do to some extent, to find a game that lasts the duration.

I hear the new systems thing. I came back because I loved VTM (Vampire), but then found out that there was Chronicles of Darkness, so I spent months learning the new rules and then shortly after the Old World of Darkness got revised to VTM5e which started a split and left the community spread across VTM 5e, VTM 20, and VTMR. I was like okay this just got complicated.

I haven't check out Cypher, yet.

I agree the TTRPG community is still cool.

I've also noticed that games don't last. There are some other sites that are a bit busier, but I really like the feel of this site, so I'd rather wait patiently here to find something to play.

Are you still running Cyber Punk? If so, if anyone drops out and it makes sense for someone to join, I down to play.
