I actually played in a session with one.
The party cleric encountered it in a separate session and told me privately after the game that Medusa's were not in fact undead, and that he had pull one over on the DM.
I let him know that he missed a few things when the wizard and I were the only ones to show up for the night, and as a matter of fact there was a very good reason Turn Undead worked on that particular Medusa.

I feel like "Undead Azata" wouldn't be fair. I only went with the Medusa because there are canon undead variants. I'd be hard pressed to see a legitimate undead variety of Azata.
