Plot Summary Little Curio Shop of Horrors: Everyone knows Jessica, she's the girl about town, even in a busy town in Maryland where she lived for most of her young life. Jessica is the girl everyone wishes to be or if not, they want to be with her. She is compassionate, outgoing and smart, somehow always traveling in the right circles and able to make friends with just about everyone. She is the best friend to have and if that wasn't enough, she has an energy about her that just makes everyone around her happy with a sense of humor to keep everyone laughing. She attended college to become a lawyer and that is her dream but she had to leave home to do that but now she is back in Maryland. She got back in touch with you recently as a friend with news that a strange curio store is opening in town and she wants to explore it a bit and see what's there. She says that she is inviting a couple other friends and you can all go to the cafe together afterwards. Of course, you agree, because who in their right mind would say 'No' to Jessica. You plan to meet at the Curio store just a little after noon and as planned, you get there and meet her other friends and of course, Jessica. You exchange names and head on into the store. It's a cute little corner store but the inside is quite a different story. Once inside, you find wooden shelves that seem a little dated and they are covered, tastefully in very strange objects that you can't find anywhere else, just being that out-of-the-ordinary. An empty silver snuffbox inscribed with a single word, 'Dreams', a petrified mouse on a small plaque, A silver skull the size of a coin and many other strange items that seemed to puzzle and drag your attention from one item to the next. You each decide to pick something out and buy it, as odd as the item is. What's the harm, right? As you and Jessica's other friends are perusing the store or approaching the counter to pay for the item you picked out, a strange 'ping' sound seems to originate from nowhere at all and grows in volume until it's nearly deafening. As you put your hands over your ears, the air around you tears open with a vacuous noise and drowns your senses in darkness. Details: --4-5 motivated players that will push the story forward without much prodding. -I don't like to railroad my players or push them into things, I prefer baiting them into things. -System: DnD 5e, Modern Variant/Homebrew which I credit to EngrinAZ for building. -Players start at level 1 -Standard Array: 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 8 -Equipment goes by wealth -Max health at lvl 1 and roll or average for every level after. -Upon being chosen, you'll roll a D100 to see what strange item your character chose. -Ask Questions Feel free to quote this ad and copy/paste the application. How will wealth be handled after the transition between worlds? Will a rich PC somehow be rich in the new world too? Or will they lose everything that they weren't carrying on their trip to the curio shop?

@Kaiya: Wealth in the Modern system is calculated and represented by what their character would normally make from a job or some form of employment. Leaving the modern world will likely put a damper on that but who's to say that someone who can make alot of money from being a celebrity in the modern world can't make the same kind of money, generally speaking from a similar profession in the not-so-modern world?

In other words, You're all just getting together for shopping and coffee with no more than twenty bucks on hand which might or might not be useful in the world where you end up.

App Name: Wil Miller Class: Strong Hero (Field Medic) Background: Religious Personality: Wil is, well nothing much to be said other than being a kind and meek young lady, who is also a devout believer in God. However, if theirs one thing people should know about her, it's that she has a really violent temper. Anything could set her up, whether it's an insult or a punch she'll blow up and brutally maims the offender. However, that was a long time ago when she was a child, she has mellowed out by time. Though her violent nature has yet to be exorcised from her very being, as of now she likes having a hobby like crochet or having a nice soothing cup of coffee with friends. Appearance: Wil is a small lady, at least 4'3" and her build looks deceptively meek. She sports a brown, shoulder-length long hair and usually wears her Red Cross uniform, even in her free time. However, her uniform has a lot of bloodstains, though not from a streetfight probably, but could possibly be from a few surgeries she handles or assisted upon. She hasn't opted to change it, seeing as she never knows when a random stabbing might occur, her services may be needed and their could be a lot of bleeding involve depending on how well or bad she tries cauterizing the injury. Backstory: Wil lived a rough childhood, she was mostly the one instigating her life to be rough and violent. Her parents had enough of her behavior and sent her to a religious boarding school, their her temper, which is still present today, simmered down after she grew up through that phase of her life. She eventually joined the Red Cross in order to better her medical skills and to help ease the suffering of victims of disaster and war. Wil met Jessica in one of her coffee times, they were coffee buddies but to Wil she was the first friend she had in a long time. Most people that know her tend to label her as mentally deranged and usually never talk to her again, the bloodstains on her uniform does not help her image. Jessica was the only one that stick around despite knowing how she acts and therefore was her only friend. She need just ask and Wil will do her best to succeed in whatever favor or task she asks of her.

Liam Name: Liam Gibbs Class: Tough Hero Background: Law Enforcement Personality: Always used to be the 'excluded one', Liam is angry at heart for being emarginated all his life. Bullied in almost all stages of his education until the end of high school, he tries to use humour to deflect his feelings, but it it never really works. As he grew up being told to shut his mouth every time he talked, Liam became a silent young man. Appearance: As a consequence of eating his feelings away, Liam is morbidly obese. He became a bit more fit since he joined the police academy, but he's still a massive man. Gibbs has blond straight hair and beady blue eyes. When not in uniform, he usually wears baggy clothes to mask his shape. Backstory:Life had not been easy on young Liam. His mother died during childbirth. So he and his father, lived in the house of his grandma, Louise Herring, but his father died in Iraq during the Persian Gulf War when the kid was only three years old. His grandmother constantly compares Liam to his father Paul, a comparison in which the kid always comes out short. Constantly bullied through high school, he was actually contemplating taking his own life. That's when Jessica was assigned to him to tutor him in his failing studies. Her sunny disposition saved him and her friendship meant the world to him giving him the strength to go on and finish high school, but more importantly to hope in a better future. Once graduated, he managed to enter the police academy, thanks to which he managed to gather some college credits in the hopes of getting a bachelor's as he worked as a policemen. Now an officer in training, he still doesn't get along with his peers, but he feels he's on a good path. A couple of weeks after his first paycheck, Jessica turned up, after years of silence, inviting Liam to a quirky event..

Ready for review Name: Jacob Hallman Class: Dedicated Hero (Martial Artist) Background: Emergency Services Personality:   Jacob was considered a slight hellion in his younger years, he needed a push in the right direction which has led to him being a hardworking person. He is very dedicated, from never diverting from his diet when he's at home to remaining rigid toward his workout routine. To his friends Jacob is the one during the day always doing something, unfortunately that rings the same for most evenings. He is unapologetic toward his approach to achieving his dream and carries great pride in his abilities. Family functions and birthdays are the only exceptions which was only achieved after a year of nagging from his mother and sister. Jacob is a polite, straight individual with a strange knack for almost predicting what someone was going to say or what must've just happened, a skill that has served him well in his paramedic job. As a consequence of being so focused on his goal Jacob might be mistaken for someone with his head in the clouds and missing many social ques. This isn't because he has no empathy or interest in people, he just can't stop thinking of the next step or the situation at hand when working. He has been rather aloof to the idea of a romantic relationship since he left school but has always remembered the good times with Jessica despite both being adults now and living different lives. Appearance:     Jacob is what most would think of when asked to describe a future Olympian. Being in the higher weight division it can surprise some that Jacob is a martial artist rather than a weightlifter, however he can quickly put those thoughts to bed when he practices his roundhouse kick. He is masculine with noted heavy muscles on his arms and thighs. Jacob would consider himself plain looking in the face but despite the look of his body he isn't a show off. Rarely is Jacob seen without his gi or paramedic uniform on, most joke that the skin Jacob is always willing to show is his feet. Backstory:   For the first fifteen years of his life the name Jacob Hallman was constantly written up for detentions and suspensions, no one could contain the wild child with more energy than most wild dogs. He was the kid rolling on the ground instead of sitting in his seat. His parents were told to give him Ritalin which they refused, their answer was to keep Jacob constantly busy with sport so he would be worn out. This worked until Jacob turned ten but the damage to his reputation at school was already done. He was teased into acting out whether this be a dare for daredevil activities like walking on his hands across the desks or jumping onto teacher's cars during lunch. For this period it wasn't that Jacob wanted to act out he just wanted to see if he could do it. Jacob's parents resorted to harsh punishments, soon enough Jacob was socially excluded as a result of his punishments. Therefore Jacob just continued his physical activities mostly alone. He was twelve when he met Jessica, the start of a highschool romance. She was seen as a great influence on Jacob, she was the one that encouraged him to try karate. She'd walk him to every lesson and cheered him on whenever he was parred off for sparring. Jacob's parents were happy Jessica had such a positive influence on him but at school he still managed to get into trouble, he had too much attention from teachers and thus was punished for even the most minor infraction. Suffice it to say Jacob did not finish at the top of his class, he couldn't care about school whether it was from bullies trying to get him into trouble or the teachers who were too eager to punish him. He passed well enough and heard about a program for paramedics transitioning from highschool. Jacob never went to college but had a full-time job at a young age. Jessica and Jacob amicably broke up after highschool, he felt nothing but happiness toward Jessica but his dream of achieving a gold medal to him required complete focus. Jacob now had a constant routine of work, eat, workout, train and sleep; for almost a year he was constantly coming and going from the house. So much so that Jacob's mother and sister confronted him begging him to atleast come to family gatherings and birthdays, which he agreed to. Jacob celebrated his 22nd birthday, a year away from his Olympic attempt to become a reality. He got a happy birthday text from Jessica and an invitation to a meet up with some old friends, mostly Jessica's but something in Jacob made him agree. Despite Monday being his fasting and cardio day he agreed. The group met up and Jacob met eyes with Jessica and the two hugged, certainly there was some unresolved feelings between the two as Jacob found himself remembering her scent. They even held hands for a few steps down the street before they reached the store. Curio it was named, Jacob didn't even know what that meant but he walked inside with little knowledge what would happen next.

Players who are chosen: I've been in a game with a similar concept - normal college grads (Cold Case Crew / Tumbleweeds) being transported to a D&D-like world where we suddenly found ourselves with ...odd abilities - magic, rage, more magic . To play that mindset is SO much fun. Enjoy! I think anyone who joins Hal's game should be in for a treat.

Application Name: Blair “Bea” Sutton Class: Smart hero Background: Entrepreneur Appearance: Bea has black hair which she keeps meticulously dyed, as she is a natural redhead which marks her as a Sutton. She dresses punk-adjacent, and those who know clothes might notice that she has a natural eye for expensive or quality pieces, as much of her wardrobe was purchased before her family cut her off. She is quite tall for a woman, hovering around 5 foot 9. She has a handful of tattoos: a spider on her collarbone, a sword on her left shin, and a hourglass running out of time on her right arm. Personality: Bea tries to be everything to everyone, a remnant of the high expectations of her upbringing. Though on the surface she is sarcastic and a bit rough around the edges, she has a deep desire to find her place in the world that drives her to be unwaveringly loyal to those she feels have earned it. Bea would like everyone to think that she is a take no **** hard ass, but she is actually quite sensitive to criticism and prone to bouts of silence. She is a hard worker, a perfectionist, and a pessimist. Background: Bea was born into an old money family. They were loving enough, but they also had high expectations of her: she needed to be a top student, marry someone worthy of their family, manage her own business, be beautiful and fashionable, be a lady, be enough for them. For a long time, Bea did everything she could to live up to these expectations of her, desperately trying her hand at various school clubs, sports, businesses, anything she could think of. As it often goes, she stretched herself too thin and began failing classes, taking pills to stay focused, and eventually landed herself in rehab. When she returned, she broke up with her pedigree boyfriend and told her parents she wouldn’t be following their rules anymore, including turning down her admittance to Harvard Business School (which her parents paid for, of course). Her family promptly disowned her, and Bea was forced to couch surf until she got back on her feet. She stayed with a handful of friends, but it was Jessica she stayed with the longest. She eventually got herself together and is currently working as a chef to put herself through college.
