[Other] Grottos and Godbound

Seeing as we're throwing around Word concepts, I'll put it out there that I'm planning to use Sea, Wealth and either Night or Sorcery (still need to re-read magic to check if anything is relevant to what I'm going for).

I'll hopefully flesh out my app soon.

Magic is definitely a separate rabbit hole. I think the Sea/Wealth combo sounds awesome thematically.

Beasts and Deception seem like the could also work with the aquatic theme. Or weren't you also talking about Knowledge to represent the secrets of the deep? That sounds pretty sweet.

System Thoughts: I skimmed through the character creation and I think it's refreshing how they did away with the classes and use the words and their powers instead. I will get more in depth with it as time permits it but so far I like what I see.

Posting and Writing Challenge Thoughts: I don't mind the limit if it means posting everyday (or close to that), it beats waiting for some deep inspiration to make an appearance. It also opens the door for comic-book style heroic one-liners, which I think are cool sometimes.

Pre-Apotheosis Concept: A nobleman's wife who used her smarts and charms to great success in the administration of her unfaithful husband's businesses. She also sought to use her wealth and influence to help those less fortunate than her, offering jobs and shelter to those in need and doing her part to make the world a better place.

Demigod Concept: A goddess scorned whose wrath burns hotter than hell. Having being betrayed by the one she trusted the most, she has a soft spot for people that have also been betrayed. Feeling like the world doesn’t deserve the good people that try to live in it; she now opts to use fire as her solution to most of the world's problems. She hopes to burn away the evils that plague this world so a new one may be reborn from its ashes, one that won't punish its people for trying to do good. (Words are Fire, Passion and Sky)

Worldbuilding Exercise There's a section of the enclave that has been closed off after a provoked fire burned down a brothel and its surrounding buildings. Luckilly only a few people were unable to escape the fire, but a nobleman was found dead in the wreckage. The arsonist is still at large.

Haven't really made a deep dive into the nitty-gritty yet, so my Words are subject to change (except for Sky I think) depending on the group dynamics. I merely selected based on the theme I had in mind, but that can be tweaked if need be.

The region itself might affect Word choices too. For instance, the Word of Death is especially potent in Ancalia: Because the nation is infested with hordes of undead. The same goes for any Gift that can create food. To Ancalia's enclaves of starving survivors, filling their bellies is a miracle indeed.

Meanwhile, a Godbound of Sorcery could actually close the Night Roads: Provided, of course, that they can reach the entrance without being torn apart by Uncreated titans....

Yeah, that was on the cards too, but there's been a few apps using Knowledge so I've been conceptualising around it for the moment. But I don't need Beasts (one Sea gift gives me everything I'd need for commanding sea life) and Deception would be fine but ... well, I just made Ramiro.

Looking over the Gate theurgy, none of it really fits, so I'll probably go for something other than Sorcery for this one. Maybe Night to represent drawing from the abyssal depths.

@All: Just to be clear, I'm not gonna hold anyone to any Words they put in their app. If it helps, you could list out what Words you're interested, then pick the actual three if/when you're in.

Kaiya is right though, Death probably would be pretty powerful what with all the undead, same with Sorcery (especially for Shutting the Dark Way). Though, neither are required or anything of the sort. After all, there's more than one way to skin a cat Uncreated.

Yeah, just to flesh out the nearby settlement/enclave.

Whether the "nearby settlement" is Binai or not, can we still assume it to be along the north coast? Because my current Worldbuilding piece wouldn't really work otherwise.

My application is...done? I had to leave it fairly vague, because I don't know which (if any) parts of canon will be in the game. But the essential idea hopefully comes across.

Keante's Character Application You: Keante. I've played mostly D&D 3.5, 4e, 5e and Pathfinder 1e since my first game in 2009. Have you checked out the system? What do you think of it? Do you have any comments or concerns? I have spent quite a bit of time reading Godbound, but no actual play to speak of. I love the idea of how quickly the PCs can make major changes in the world. I do think that being prepared for the scope and scale of a Godbound game takes a mental shift if you're accustomed to games like D&D and Pathfinder. Almost anything the player characters do will feel out of line for what characters should be capable of, if your frame is still in D&D mode. How do you feel about the posting rate and the constrained writing challenge? I like this idea and I'm excited to try it. Pre-Apotheosis Concept: Jember Soro was nobody special. He did what others more powerful than he told him to do. Living under an oppressive petty warlord wasn't a good life, but with the monsters out in the countryside, the freedom he longed for was incompatible with continued existence. Jember's fear of death kept him from ever trying to leave, until one day when he found himself inexorably drawn to the Cairn of Worship. Demigod Concept: The Wayfarer. His blessings help the lost find their way and make it to their destination safely. Words: Journeying, Luck, Command Worldbuilding Exercise: The survivors in Binai have carved out a network of chambers and passages underground. The tunnels are protected by traps and guards, and provide a safe haven if the husks threaten Binai too closely. So far, no one has made the mistake of digging too close to the river.
