Neqq, what a letdown. I was counting on you for some Bear Cavalry. You've got a bunch of Druids. That's the perfect setup for riding around on heavily armored bears, just F'in the world up. LOL

^ This.
So far I'm imagining that South Port is going to sport a healthy militia. With a small but potent force of peacekeepers and some questionable pirate-navy action. |

Yeah, mine are light cavalry, and don't have a lot of survivability in mass combat, unless perhaps used in one of those fancy shooting circles perhaps.
I currently have no plans for heavy cavalry. I mean, about a third of my district is mountains and rocky foothills, heavy cavalry here is just a few shades less worse that it is for your Gateway District. I'm more inclined to think that any traditional Heavy Cavalry will come(at least any from us players and not the king) from perhaps the Gilded Tome district. Because Paladin just screams heavy knights to me. |

No armoured bears, but I might have drop bears, very handy for ambushes.

Fair enough Yuul, that probably is where the nation's heaviest troops will end up coming from. Forgot that there's a Paladin.
Though now that I think about it, my guards are medium melee troops, but they're actually respectably beefy. Like 19-ish AC? That's fairly legit, but they're more a peacekeeping/defense force than anything I will actually deploy somewhere.

Hey man, 2000g + 1 live bear nets you one awakened bear. Though the armor is 4 times more expensive and you'll probably have to start PAYING the bears.
Just saying, you could have Bear Fighters. (Not to be confused with bearfighters, whose job just got a lot more dangerous.) |

Making a ton of intelligent animals? Pretty sure I have heard that story before, and honestly? Planet of the Bears doesn't sound any better for us than Planet of the Apes.

Fox, I think the biggest problem with awakening animals is they don't have human concepts like patriotism, comradeship, and civic duty. Don't really know how you could control them/order them around in a military setting.
Also realizing I have a very low magic district. Odd how that turned out.

Another Military unit added. It's a small one, like before, but again its a guard against bandits and thieves. My next unit will actually be the bread and butter of Argent's force, though I will likely use your template if you will Mick, to both save time and my mind from calculating more mental math.
A few rank adjustments, as I don't have a bunch of 'hoorah!' marines on my payroll.(read: I wish!) Different equipment also, slightly 'heavier' if you will. But then again, most of my force isn't on a cluster of tiny islands. ![]() Last edited by Yuul; Sep 17th, 2014 at 10:43 PM. |

Yeah, not wanting to drown is a pretty convincing motivation to keep light.
By all means though, feel free to use anything I made if it'll help you out. I have like 8 sheets of paper absolutely filled front and back with scribbles and calculating all over them sitting next to my laptop, heh, so I understand not wanting to crunch all the numbers if you don't have to. My organization was more due to ship sizes though. Made my largest group 70 because it makes a Sailing Ship have just over 100 men, which is how many you need for a "Medium Army" on the Mass Combat size scale, the next highest size is 200, which is 60 more than my sailing ships can carry. Also they're more skirmishers, light infantry that are sneaky and fill both a ranged and melee role, so they wouldn't get any advantage from being in larger groups since it'd make them less sneaky and mobile. If you're having heavier troops, I would suggest a larger units since medium armor (which also generally means a medium load since even scale mail weighs 30lbs) would mean 15ft base speed and at least a -7 armor check penalty in the case of scale + medium load, not counting a shield. So if you can't get mobility and stealth, generally numbers are the better choice. It's the only reason I made my units as small as I did, because they move 30ft, and have an armor check penalty of 0, or -1 if they are using their shields.
