Just registering interest while I work on an app. I like the Comanche scout idea and might run with that… is that cool with everyone? It seems to be a skill gap to be filled.

Name: Dyani
Race: Human
Background: Outlander/Entertainer
Class: Rogue (scout)

Description:
Dyani is a Native American of the Pawnee people. She is short at 5’4” and very slender. She is swift and nimble with clean limbs, like the Deer for which she is named.

Personality:

 

Dyani is somewhat of an enigma, like a fickle force of nature. She is fierce and independent and stubborn, and her general demeanour is of sullen silence. Days can go by without her uttering a word. The ordeals of her life make her distrustful of strangers.

However, once her loyalty is earned, she will be a friend and ally for life. When one is able to make her delighted or amused, she will express her joy with alarming intensity. It is a rare and precious sight to witness her beaming smile.

A third aspect of Dyani’s character has developed while in captivity. She has learned that “being nice” can be persuasive and a survival skill. Hence she can put on what she calls a “charming face” when needed.

Background:

 

With the Japanese pressing from the East, and the Europeans (that had started calling themselves “Americans”) invading from the West, as well as the old enemies the Comanche and Lakota, the pressure on Pawnee lands was great. War was all around them. They were driven into the mountains and deep forests. All members were needed to fight – both men and women sharpened their hunting and tracking skills.

The warriors from Dyani’s tribe ambushed an American force, but were defeated. She was taken alive and a brutal life as a slave seemed to be her destiny. However, the American caravan was attacked again, and this time defeated by the Tokugawans. Dyani was taken as “spoils of war”. Her new masters were no less cruel, but the leader of the samurai warband had an eye for culture and arts. Dyani impressed with traditional dances, and so was kept as an “entertainer” – avoiding a far worse fate.

She bided her time until the Tokugawans became less watchful over her.

When the opportunity came, Dyani stabbed a guard, took his tanto and escaped into the night.

She now arrives in the border town Snakebite, Kansas. Her home and tribe are destroyed and she knows that alone she is vulnerable. So she seeks to ally herself with a new group and offer her skills in tracking, hunting and pathfinding. She is not interested in wealth or the shiny coins, but realises she needs to buy food to live, a new “family” for protection, and it is better to have something useful to offer.

Equipment: Tanto, longbow, 40 arrows, quiver, rope, common clothing, water flask (counts as canteen), flints & kindling (count as matches and tinderbox), blanket, bedroll, backpack (33.75 left to spend, saving up for a horse!)

SKILLS & TRAITS: Now here is where I admit I have not played this game before! I think the character background gives the idea of what skills I will be aiming for; track, run, climb, swim, jump, notice, spot, listen – with the addition of persuade and entertain (dance) as kind of new class skills.
