Although not quite as quiet as Bingus, Gardrel also slunk up next to the door, ready to give the warrior a burst of luck if it was needed.

Opening up the door leading to the hold, and carefully picking your way along a floor littered with seaweed, small crustaceans and a large of number of chairs and tables thrown about...plus bodies. Alot of bodies. Dead sailors are strewn about the hold, thrown around in the rough seas. Some are broken and lie horribly twisted, whilst others lie with an almost serene grace. Moving through the chaos of the hold, where it's clear the sailors met a fate worse than yours at their last meal, you come to another door, leading towards the prow. It is hear that the sounds are loudest, large thumps, scrapes and buckling wood coming at random intervals.
Quietly opening the door and peeking through, Bingus' eyes widen. The floor within is untouched by water (though is still heavily slanted), but there is a trail of blood leading to the storeroom. That however, is not what has caught the gnome's eye. Currently trying to break into the storeroom is the larger cousin of the sea scorpions that attacked you on the beach, standing as tall as a man, with a wickedly pointed stinger dripping blood.

Al Initiative 23reacts quickly, and begins by adding a pinch of dark powder to the blob of stuff he's been rolling between his fingers. He Touch attack=14, damage=5throws it at the monstrous scorpion, wobbling on the tilting deck, and listens to the satisfying explosion that results.

Before anyone else can react, Al throws a bomb through the doorway and the stench of saltpeter stings your nostrils. The blast does a good amount of damage to the scorpion, cracking open its carapace in two places. Startled by the suddenness of Al's attack, his allies stand dumbstruck for a second. Luckily the force of the blast has pushed the scorpion over, and it's scrabbling to stand and turn around to counterattack.

Seeing the effect of his bomb, Al realises that he has time to throw another. A quick rummage in his pockets, a bit more - hurried - mixing, and a Attack 15, damage 6second explosion injures the sea-creature further.
"Are these things unique to this island?" Al asks, his curiosity making itself felt even in the heat of battle.

Bingus lets out a startled yelp as Al's bomb consumes the scorpion in a wreath of flame momentarily, then recovers his senses with a shake of his head. He quickly took out a small pat of butter he kept for the focus to the spell he was about to cast and muttered a few words in gnomish. The deck beneath the scorpion's legs suddenly became slick with a viscous, slippery coating of grease that was as slippery as a skating rink, then took up his hammer in a two handed grip and brought it down towards the chitinous head of the over-sized insect with all the strength he could muster.

The sudden explosion catches Gardrel off-guard, and he stumbled backwards a step or two in surprise, nearly making him loose his footing on the slanted floor. Recovering quickly, he moved up next to the gnome and channeled some luck to him. At the same time he called out, "Don't worry Aerys, we're here!" guessing that the blood was probably hers...

“What in the hells was that?” Welter reacts with curious surprise to the sound of explosions from below decks in the broken ship below. The lanky human peers over the edge of the cliff, looking for some sign as to the cause. Last edited by arguilios; Dec 19th, 2010 at 10:10 PM. |

Al's first bomb opened up a large crack in the scorpion's carapace, and Bingus rushes forwards to sink his hooked hammer into the wound. However, as the scorpion whipped around to face it's foe Bingus was knocked off balance and his aim went wide. Moving up to aid the bard, Gardrel taps him on the shoulder and sents a jolt of luck into him. However, it would likely be called unlucky to be caught in the crossfire of your allies...which is exactly what happened next. Overzealous, Al throws another bomb, the explosion rocking the hull. Gardrel is shielded from the blast by Bingus, who is luckily shielded by the scorpion, and feels nothing more than a couple of small wood chips hit his chest. Though damaging to his allies, Al's bomb does a lot more to the scorpion, and it sways unsteadily on it's legs. Even in it's damaged state however, the creature is still extremely dangerous, and cuts a slice into one of Bingus' arms (1 point of damage).

Al, seeing that the melee has become too close for further bombs, decides to switch to a less destructive tactic: he stands back, dagger at the ready, shaking nervously as he prepares to defend himself.

Bingus noticed the destructive force from the blast, in fact he felt the power in it, then looked down at his hammer in derision with a pensive frown upon his countenance. The hammer had bounced harmlessly off the chitinous armor of the scorpion and had barely even scratched it. Bingus took the prudent course of action and Withdraw
Withdrawing from melee combat is a full-round action. When you withdraw, you can move up to double your speed. The square you start out in is not considered threatened by any opponent you can see, and therefore visible enemies do not get attacks of opportunity against you when you move from that square. (Invisible enemies still get attacks of opportunity against you, and you can’t withdraw from combat if you’re blinded.) You can’t take a 5-foot step during the same round in which you withdraw. If, during the process of withdrawing, you move out of a threatened square (other than the one you started in), enemies get attacks of opportunity as normal. You may not withdraw using a form of movement for which you don’t have a listed speed. Note that despite the name of this action, you don’t actually have to leave combat entirely.backed the hell away from the monster. |

Bingus's sudden retreat confused the halfling, but knowing full well that he himself would soon be in a world of hurt if he went toe-to-toe against the monster he backed up as well. "Al, I hope you have more of those explosives with you..." he called as he kept an eye on the scorpion, "We could certainly use them."

Al, seeing his allies backing away from the scorpion, swiftly juggles together another bomb. Deciding he'd rather miss altogether than catch his allies - or himself - in the blast, he hurls it in the vicinity of the creature - but the throw is Attacking the square with the scorpion in; attack 4 damage 7wild, and the bomb simply makes a loud noise.
"Oops."

Despite his horrible throw, a streak of goodluck saw Al's bomb kill the scorpion regardless. Throwing slightly over the scorpion, the bomb bounces off the wall and lands a few feet away. The explosion kicks up a number of large splinters of wood, one of which impales itself deeply into the opening of the damage carapace. Shudder once, the beast collapses on its many legs and lies still, its blood mixing with that already on the floor.
