Have you considered adapting the Icon system at all? My first thought upon reading it was to lower the scale a goodly bit, making it into powers that the typical PCs would be dealing with on a daily basis. So for a city? The thieves guild, the local church, the town guard, the college of magic, and so forth. For an even more focused game, set in a single castle? The King, the chatelaine, the master-of-arms, the cook, and suchlike. It's something that I really need to devote some time to working upon. |

Ok, so, Army, unless you have another idea, let's steal Slapstick's plot tie-in from upstream.
You've worked as a security and general big guy for Niccolo, maybe full-time, maybe on-and-off, for several years. The boss mentioned that he was going to retire, and he was leaving an interest in the theater to you. You don't know the details, but you know you were expecting something and that something hasn't been forthcoming since his death. I'll let you tell me why you don't believe Dimitri did it -- maybe it's as simple as a benefit of the doubt thing. I think that puts more or less all of us on the same "side" of the investigation. I think I mentioned this upthread but maybe I just thought it -- I'd really like the group to work together as much as possible, and when it makes sense to split up, keeping the number of splits as small as possible. I added a fifth because I really wanted to play with some new and interesting people, but if all five of you go off in different directions I'll have a hard time keeping up with the game. (This also would have been true with four, but 5 is 25% more....) I'm going to start working on setting a scene. Let me know when you think your characters are complete! |

I will confess that while I like a lot of what 13th Age brings to bear, I haven't seen it play out. I got involved in a game Hippo was running, but it sort of stalled out. My concept was neat, and I liked character generation a lot, but I'm still not sure how the Icons stuff manifests in play. The backgrounds I liked, though. It seemed like a very nice system for story-driven gameplay.

Game thread up. Tone isn't quite there yet, but it's close, I think.
Some of you are more directly written in than others. In the first couple rounds of posting, let's see if we can't find common cause to work as a team. |

You mentioned the "Voice" for Tryste Phinar. Lovitz isn't bad lol. On the other hand I'm torn between Kevin Kline in the pirates of Penzance, Kenneth Branagh in Wild Wild West, and George Hamilton as the straight brother in Zoro the Gay Blade.

I'm prepping a post for this game. It will probably take me a day or two to finalize. Consider this your fair warning to get in any last bits of roleplay this round -- feel free to post more than once if you'd like but also don't feel obliged to post if you're fine with me dragging you along.

We can RP this out but I can say right now that Tryste has picked up relatively little so far. He'd be willing to follow any sensible sounding course of action with emphasis being either on the absurdly noticeable or the completely covert activities.

I think the options under discussion were talk to the widow, check out the crime scene, and maybe go hit some people who might know something.
There might be some value in pumping the Hellknight but I will be honest I'm not sure what you could expect to get from him. Likewise, I don't think I've distributed a ton of clues around the players. The options presented seem like logical choices to me. I will also quietly observe that the interaction with the attorney has gone completely unremarked. It probably is no more relevant than the other two leads, and might even be a red herring. |
