[D&D-5e] The Closing Calamity in the Crags

Selection for the current ongoing game needing two more players is complete. The two making the cut are:

1. Alemar's character Isabella Mandrake, and
2. Ursinorum's character Grit

The two of you will be joining that group. I'll send each of you information on how to proceed. Congrats.

The selection process for the new group, which will take place in a new game forum has begun. I hope to have the selections done by 5 or 6 pm CST tomorrow, though I may get inspired and finish before that.

May I say that this selection process wasn't easy. I couldn't go with a traditional balanced group for one. I also made sure I didn't give any weight to players whom I game with elsewhere to eliminate favoritism.
In the end, it came down to mostly how well a character would be able to work for the Ship Captains of Luskan, and how well they'd get along with each other under these circumstances. No matter which way I went with this in mind, I'd end up with a bunch of mostly Miscreants. Which is the point.

Thanks to all of you who put forth some very well thought out characters.

Between "Healing Light" and Cure Wounds, I'd say so. Said character would need to have a "want" to heal others - being the only healer in the group - no matter where that "want" comes from (actually cares when others are hurt, it comes with their job/role in the group whether they like it or not, are just two examples).

Application Name: Arthur Korvos Race: VHuman Class: Sorcerer - Divine Soul / Warlock - Celestial Background: Acolyte Role: Healer, Blaster Backstory: Much is unknown about his heritage other than he was unofficially adopted by a poor farming family as a babe. Son of an infamous crime lord? Prince of a fallen and lost royal line perhaps? No one knows forsure. From a young age, Arthur showed divine powers reminiscent of clerics, but without requiring any worship or training. The local church in Neverwinter saw potential in him and took him away from his adopted parents in order to raise him in secrecy in a form of protection. They knew Arthur’s connection was much more than faithful service and kept him hidden until his divine powers could not be contained anymore. At that point the only option was for Arthur to find himself, and to ascend. It was then the clerics lifted the veil and set forth the divine mage upon his journey. Arthur now travels as a student of his own right. Searching for answers of might and magic and wandering where the light takes him. His rebellious and inquisitive nature often catapulting him towards scenarios of calamitous proportions. His drive for power and exploration excelling him towards ascension. Appearance: Black and white robes wrap themselves around Arthur, giving the appearance of a tight yet flexible fit. Atop his head rests a pointed magicians hat, black with white star like embroidery. He is a handsome, young and petite man, with no facial hair. The hair hidden from under his cap is black and trimmed short. The most unique feature of Arthur is when he expels his magical force, the color of his eyes change from common brown to shining blue almost silver. Personality: flirtatious and dangerous. A thrill seeker and provocateur. Arthur Likes to bend the rules, manipulate circumstance and exploit luck. He is Fun, energetic and full of panache. For those applying...

A Lawful Good character isn't going to work in this game as it would in the new game advertisement I have open. In the main advert it states,

"Plot Summary
A recently thrown together band of miscreants, takes jobs as needed.

Game starts on the Northern Sword coast in the sea port of Luskan in the year 1481."

If you look over the current characters and their backgrounds, you get a feel for this being an adventure for those who will tend to "get the job done" with "less than goodly" intentions. They are working for/with a company out of Luskan, so that should explain a lot (if you are familiar with the commerce in the city).

The Background
Not everyone is a good soldier, some people just do it to survive. Jura is one of those men. Soldiering and the skills he persists on today are mainly things of survival, of food in a belly and a place to avoid the heat of the high sun. He is likely forgotten, but has no interest to find out if his desertion (with the Lord’s property) is remembered by anyone. Few likely would remember now in any event as the years have a tendency to blur memory of faces for most, an issue that hasn’t seemed to affect Jura. That’s the rub of it really - the reason he had to leave. A lineage not quite known, but visible now that he has been a ways further than the hills of Cormyr's Stormhorns in the grassy cast of skin, sharp features. His face still struggles to grow much of a beard, though he tries now as it helps with the cold and hides some of the extended youthfulness of his face. Men believe in their guides when they are a bit more worn, or so he’s found. A bit of disguising never hurts when you need them to part with coins, or food.

But we digress, it was this self-discovery while dutifully putting down what was reported as a mercenary caravan that broke his mind for a time and led to the end of a short career as a military man. When your sword and arrow tips are covered in the blood of those you suddenly recognize as cousins - all because of a racial hatred, and a lie that began the carnage - a man’s mind has a tendency to reach a limit. When the cries of the young and dying ceased, and some of the smoke was coughed out, all that remained of that final set of orders for Jura was the nightmares that persist. Jura may never quite be rid of them, but staying active helps.

It may have been wanderlust, or perhaps a desire to be more than the forgotten failed soldier, but whatever the internal force the North arrived in something shy of a decade. The travels north were circuitous and meandering as some of the seasons passed supporting caravans or hunting parties for the wealthy, adventurous, and more often than not those too stupid to recognize their limits. On those latter outings it sometimes was a lonely return. He still plies this trade and even works seasons amongst smaller towns and communities where they seek to build their stores for winter.

It was the views that kept him there, despite the steady work. In the course of these years he’s developed something of a fondness for these woods and mountains, but doesn’t shy away from the great cities in winter. Why make things harder than necessary?
