That's fine, there should be plenty of public tales about doppelgangers, so I've granted Jimmy a History check. I think given Jimmy's background and with that dice result, he would know plenty of old wives' tales but also that there's some truth to them. In adventuring circles it would be established that doppelgangers are a kind of shapeshifter that's very flexible in their chosen shape and particularly scary because of how skilled they are at impersonation. Unfortunately, Jimmy doesn't know anything more qualified than that. They are definitely bad news though and there is no telling if Gwynn would be one.

Re Zone of Truth, I'm conscious of those significant limitations, but in this case a refusal to submit would itself be somewhat suspicious. Sure, she might be prideful, but if she's sincerely interested in helping, then I would hope she would understand that the circumstances have led to caution.

About Tink, does he keep himself on top of the tarp and out of LoS from Gwynn and the darklings? Does he stay close to the contraption? The "tent" makes up about half of the tarp closest to the wall in Jimmy's direction, which with my map should be southwest.

Yes, and...yes, I guess? I didn't specify, and Jimmy probably wouldn't either. Tink just stops where he was when she called out to him.

For my next GM update, I'll have Gwynn reply to Jimmy's explanation. What level of wariness would Gwynn be able to see from your party? Are you approaching her and the darklings or are you standing in formation inside the tunnel without entering the cavern?

I suppose the edge of the tunnel opening is the most appropriate spot because Gwynn's current position isn't aligned with the tunnel, and you already were in shouting distance from your previous position behind the bend too.

If that checks out for you then I'll go ahead with that.

There might be several things that could have caught Jimmy's interest. What are you having Jimmy consider? To figure out the correct check, I'll need to know his approach.

Well, if he saw these things, I would think an Arcana or similar check would tell us how much he knows about them. I'm just looking for the similar analysis based on the description. Basically, does he know - or think he knows - what's in there based on Gwynn's description, and to what level of detail?

Gotcha, I was confused that you considered an Investigation check, but now I can follow your thinking. Give me that Arcana check.
