Finrod Finrod notices the old man at the Gebeta table and the way in which the security team in the Casino react. He nods to Albrecht and moves to flank the table ready to support the Elven woman, and the security team if he has to. As he moves, he blends into the clientele becoming just another punter to those who are unaware. His hands rest on his blades and he moves with the surety of someone ready fro action, and enjoying the chance to use his skills.

Kotram Deepiron

Kotram nodded with a laugh. "You're not exactly the sharpest blade, are you Rashirr? Well, never mind. If it took a big brain to fight, merc companies would be a lot smaller. Stick by me and keep yer eyes n' ears open, you'll do alright. Y'must at least know how to stay alive if ye survived the arena."

Kotram was just about ready to settle in and relax for a bit when he heard another voice mention the Flame Lions, and not too complimentary from what it sounded. Now, he didn't hold any particular loyalty to his former employer, but if someone was calling the Lions cowards, he wanted to at least have a word, if only because they were as good as calling him a coward by association. "I'm going to see to that," he said to Rashirr, "Come along if ye like. "

Having spotted the man who had been doing the talking, he rose and made his way through the crowd. However, once he arrived, the man was nowhere to be seen. The only one there was the older fellow he had been speaking to. "You were talking to someone," Kotram stated plainly to Dougal, without so much as an introduction, "Where'd he run off to?"

Rashir snorted. "I’ve never been much good at fancy talk or books, but…" he was interrupted by a clatter on the bar, followed closely by Kotram rising to ‘see to’ something. Having been invited to come along, he shrugged and followed. It was something to do, anyway, and he could always walk away if he needed to. As Kotram questioned Dougal, he drew himself up and gave the human what he at least thought was an

Kara Kurdst
right-aligned image
Leaving the commotion of the ring to the yet unmet Vyegger, Kara glances aside at the similarly unintroduced Tarbin. She bobs her head for a nod in his direction for his brief chastisement of the drunks. That was when she saw the halfling projectile. With a proclamation, no, a prayer to the three sisters, by whom her flesh was blessed, he began a brawl with the drunkards and the halfling that had hit him.

It was an impressive show of finesse, the likes of which had to be absorbed by Kara's gaze. She had to sidestep blows that weren't aimed at her, and had to step back to avoid being hit in her new location by the man tossed over Tarbin's shoulder.

"Good throw." Kara exclaims, somewhat beside herself, talking toward that man. She even took the liberty of aiding Tarbin in pulling the bodies aside, despite the men obviously wanting to pick a fight with her. She offers Tarbin her hand, "I'm Kara." Her grey eyes had finished drinking the man in before glancing the way of the brawl that was happening outside the arena, before a lizardman and a half-orc of great stature seemed due to brawl in the ring itself. Looking back at Tarbin, with less intensity, scratching the back of her her head, disturbing the ponytail in the back of her unkempt hair. She offers, "Care for a drink stranger? For sparing me the trouble of a fight, that is."

Tarbin Haldar
right-aligned image
With the situation finally calming down somewhat Tarbin took a deep breath and calmed himself slightly as he reminded himself just where he was and that his life was not currently at risk… atleast he didn’t think that it was… ”Why Thankyou Miss…” Tarbin replied as he paused briefly to tip his large straw hat in the young woman’s direction. ”Though truth be told I probably could have got the same result with a much more straight forward punch though sometimes it’s hard to resist the training to be as showy as possible…” the young man declared though his words seemed to contradict with his rather plain looking appearance.

Large calloused hands then gripped the offered hand trapping her hand in a firm but careful grip as Kara introduced herself. ”Tarbin… Tarbin Haldar. Pleased to meet you miss Kara.” Tarbin replied as he briefly met Kara’s eye before quickly glancing back down towards the ground. ”I must admit I didn’t know whether to expect any friendly faces here other than the ones being paid to be…” Tarbin added as he briefly raised his hat and ran a large hand through his messy hair.

”Thats very kind of you miss and it would be rude of me to say no…” Tarbin replied. ”Though nothing too strong I am supposed to be working… or atleast I think I will be…” Tarbin added with a frown.

”Sooo are you a regular in the ring?” Tarbin then questioned as he glanced back towards where the two new fighters were facing off.

Kara's offered hand still wore the stiff wrappings that were put upon her in the ring over her bare hand. In however brief a time Tarbin met her eye, he saw the slightest of smiles upon her face. She asks, "Hard work being humble when you were trained your whole life to be...well I'd just be repeating your words. I guess you were meant to fight in the big arena, Tarbin?" She releases the grasp from the firm handshake by this hard working man, moving her hand to comfortably hold her left arm, where she yet felt the sting of Hoya's blows.

"Working soon, you as well?" Kara says, before gesturing off to the bar, some decent enough distance away from the arena. She already supplanted one bully, she hardly had any stomach to watch and see another take the ring. The talk of work itself reminded Kara that earning some gold in the arena wasn't what she was here for. But considering this was a month's expenses now filling her pocket, she is grateful to the three goddesses.

Whether or not considering that it would be rude to ask, Kara does anyway, "What kind of work?" She asked a step or two a ways from the dwarf-tended bar. She replies to his later question flatly, "No, first time fighting with my fists. Or at least, the first time fighting with my fists while being watched. I was trained as a little girl to wield any number of weapons against beasts and people. Was never really good at it, compared to my siblings."

Kara boisterously calls out to the dwarf behind the counter, "Oi, barkeep, could use a couple flagons of the light stuff. How many silvers?"

”Cowards,” Vyeggar snorted. The ring remained bereft of an opponent with the stones to face him, and when all he received were dirty looks from some of the other patrons – or prospective employees (it was hard to say exactly) – the half-orc turned and prepared to jump from the ring in disgust.

That was when he heard his brother's name. In a slow motion turn, Vyeggar set his sights upon the referee - the dead man, as he was now known.

"Valdik, is that..." the referee said, a sh*t-eating grin spreading across his stupid, soon to be toothless face. "No, wait. Which one are you, the babysitter or the jailbird?"

"You know, it must be quite exhilarating," Vyeggar said flatly, tossing his shirt away. "I've always been curious how I'm going to die, but more than that, I'm really curious to know what my last words will be. You're a lucky man, in one respect, because you get to know your final words came today - just now, in fact. It's too bad that you decided your words were about my brothers." Vyeggar twisted his neck violently from side to side.

"And now I'm going to play a little game I just made up. It's called How-many-of-your-bones-can-I-break-before-security-pulls-me-off-your-corpse." And with a complete disregard for the lizardman who had timidly entered the ring, Vyeggar let out a blood-curdling roar and martial flexibility to activate weapon focus- unarmed strikeprepared to put the witless referee into the morgue

Alric Andersen
right-aligned image

From the moment he stepped foot into this establishment, Alric could already hear his father's disapproval in his most scornful tone of voice. A den of ill repute to be sure, The Dead Mermaid certainly was. The stench of alcohol, sweat, tobacco, and uncleanliness almost makes his nose curl in disgust. Still, he consoles himself, the promise of employment was in this place and there was not too many other propositions lately. Judging from the crowd, a fair bit of coin seems to flow in and out of the Dead Mermaid, so perhaps this will be more lucrative than he initially intended.

He pauses momentarily near the door to catch his bearings. Those close by observe a lean, olive skinned man of average height with slicked back black hair and warm brown eyes. He has a well groomed goatee on a square jaw, and his nose is a bit large for his face. He is slightly stoop shouldered but not unhandsome, and he wears a suit of well oiled leather armor and a rapier of good quality slung at his side. A brace of daggers adorning the opposite side of his belt, and several pouches are attached to his belt around his waist.

The scantily clad elven woman approaches him with a warm welcome and an unwanted touch, and Alric scarcely wishes to imagine where that hand has been this eve already. Stepping back slightly so as not to offend too greatly, Alric tells her in a low tone, "My appreciation for your affections, madam, but I am here to discuss my terms of employment with one Tilly One-Eye, if you will." Those of you close enough to hear him hear a voice that is light and polished, reflecting a man of some refinement and schooling. When the woman encourages him to wait and enjoy himself, Alric feels aggravated at the delay but decides he will find some manner of unobtrusive behavior to engage in before his business meeting.

Where to go to avoid trouble is the big question. Nearby is a sparring ring with quite a bit of commotion occurring around it, almost as if most of the fighting was happening outside the ring rather than in it. Alric spies what looks like a shirtless half orc preparing to fight one of the man-lizards he has heard about from his studies. The rolling of dice, the thudding of cards on tables, and the endless din of voices is almost overwhelming. Trying to block out most of the commotion, Alric spies what appears to be the bar and decides a stiff drink might be enough to calm his nerves. He approaches the server, raising a finger in the air for attention and - when that doesn't work - decides instead slapping two gold pieces on the counter will work better. "Brandy, if you would please," he orders when he gets his opportunity.

Tarbin Haldar
right-aligned image
Tarbin briefly smiled at Kara's words before that smile turned in to a small frown. "Meant to? No I was meant to be a farmer and work the fields just like my pa..." Tarbin replied honestly "But fate conspired against me and I ended up being thrown in the arena" Tarbin explained. "I was no good at it at first, I suffered a lot of losses and even when I did win apparently I didn't put on enough of a show for their likin'..." Tarbin declared with a shrug of his large shoulders before absentmindedly rubbing at his back.

Tarbin then followed after Kara following a half a step behind as he nodded at the young woman's words. "Guard work, fighting is the only thing I know how to do besides work a field and I am afraid that just doesn't earn as much as it should..." Tarbin answered with a slightly melancholic smile. "I know how to treat a wound or two aswell though its not a service I'm exactly comfortable with sellin..." Tarbin added quietly as he seemed to grow more stooped and his focus upon the ground grew more intense. "What did she hit you with? Does it need treatin?" Tarbin then questioned quietly as he threw a sideways glance at the way Kara was holding herself.

"I was first trained to use the shovel and the hoe first but eventually I was taught the spear..." Tarbin admitted with a slight smile. "I wasn't great at that either but sometimes you need to use a spear rather than a plough..." Tarbin replied. "Fists.. now those are simple..." The large man added as he held up his two hands in front of him and slowly clenched his fists together. "Though sometimes the hard part is knowing when not to use them..." he declared with a slightly far off look.

"You walk like a warrior though... I can see it in how you hold yourself..." Tarbin declared before flushing red and quickly averting his gaze as soon as he realised he had started to stare a little at Kara's athletic form.

VyeggerThe referee glares up to Vyegger, not initially reacting to the threat. "Yeah, alright, mate." This clearly isn't the first time he's been threatened by one of the fighters. However, it's impossible to not notice his hand reaching to one of the bags on his belt. When Vyegger lets out his roar, the reaching becomes an outright dive.

THWIP!

It's a sharp sound. Loud, too, but short-lived. A blade skirting right between them from somewhere above. Slowly, the referee's gaze turns upward, towards the upper floor. There are the rooms that are clearly meant for more intimate moments with the staff. And standing there, lazily spinning another knife in her huge, heavy hand, is an old orc, her leather eyepatch signifying exactly who she is. She is staring directly at Vyegger, winking slowly with an awful, tusky grimace upon her. There's a notable downturn in the noise - all the staff, and even the security, mostly look away from what they're doing.

"Five minutes," Tilly One-Eye Gansog growls lowly. Her eye first goes to the Chest in the centre of the room. Still untouched. Then she looks around a few other corners of the room, before turning back to Vyegger. "You'll owe me what you damage. With interest."

Grim & DamienThe three beetles rattle across the board, as the attendant rolls his own. All of them rattle across the board excitedly. Both Grim's and Damien's buzz close together, while the black and silver go far and wide. Suddenly, the entire board shifts a deep ruby red. None of the beetles unfurl at all.

There's a grumble from the drunk old man. "Oh for ****'s sake..."

The attendant's face falls. "Someone cheated... who..."

"It's fine, Sebastane," Sandraminae says, still with that low hum in her voice. Her eyes then slowly shift to the drunk old man. "I just think it was a mistake. Looks like we'll have to reroll."

The old man tries to get up. "Don't bother. I see your friends coming over..." Tries to get up. Instead, he just collapses into Damien, slurring as he goes uncontrollably.

That's when the orc and the kobold finally reach the table. The orc is towering, as tall as he is ugly. The kobold is small enough to rest entirely on his shoulders, her own truncheon swinging this way and that. "Sandraminae, don't get too attached to these two - I think Tilly wants them."

Sandraminae has a confused look, but then briefly turns. Specifically, she looks up to the balcony where the kobold is looking. There stands the imposing figure of Tilly One-Eye Gansog. A dangerous figure if there ever was one. The beautiful elf sighs in faux disappointment. She looks between Grim and Damien. "I don't think five minutes is long enough for what I had in mind... though, if you're still playing, I'm sure we can do something."

While these words have been exchanged, the orc meanwhile has just stared at the old man, who hasn't even gotten off of Damien yet in his half-collapsed heap. "Hello again." His fist tightens on his truncheon, and it looks like the handle is about to snap off.

Kara, Tarbin & AlricThe dwarf first serves Kara and Tarbin with an eager smile. He starts to pour them some ales, when he hears Alric's request. That makes him pause for a moment. "Brandy? What, you from the Citadel or something?" he grunts. He then casts his grimace about the room. "I think some of the girls and guys who are for sale have fancier drinks in the bedrooms. Who knows? You might get lucky, Mister Flashy."

He then pours Kara's drink and slides it over to her. He's halfway through Tarbin's, when suddenly, he stops. He looks up, and he goes very quiet. He watches carefully, and doesn't even notice Tarbin's flagon overfilling until some of its spilled onto his shoes. "I don't want to worry you two, but I think she was looking at you."

All it would take would be a turn of the head to confirm whom - the imposing, thick, knife-wielding and surprisingly short figure of Tilly One-Eye Gansog, whose attention has briefly been turned towards the sparring ring.

LianaLiana watches the orc and the kobold reach the table. No violence has broken out yet, though when the warning was made, there was a dirty look from the kobold and a few taps on the orc's head. Maybe, if Liana was less alert, there'd be swung truncheons first and words after, or never.

But the halfling then notices something else. Every staff member in the building stops at once, all looking up. They're quick to return to work, but they move that little bit faster. They work that little bit harder. The women tug their bras down a little and the men shift their loincloths just a little lower to catch the gazes of the easy marks. That sort of shift only takes place when the big boss is around. And Liana quickly notices that a lot of the staff were briefly looking at her. Clearly, the big boss had attention for her, at least for a moment.

SigneTrista gives a low chuckle. "We have professional dancers for that. Besides, we're not in the habit of inviting strangers up for the... kind of dancing that's popular here," she points out. "I was asking about the lyre. So, you mentioned other performances - what sort were they?"

Then she stops, and looks up. Her face doesn't so much darken as it firms up with purpose, and then she looks down, nodding in the vague direction of a beautiful and tall halfling in the crowd. "As for the halfling... well, my boss was just staring at them a second ago."

Alric cannot help but crack half a smile at the dwarf's comment, and patiently awaits while he fills the drink of the two patrons in front of him. KaraA tall, fiery-haired woman in a manner of dress similar to a highwayman from the looks of it. The fellow behind her seems a decent enough fellow, if not common. Alric briefly wonders why he is here as he watches the dwarf begin to fill his tankard. The tankard suddenly begins to overflow, and Alric looks at the dwarf first in confusion, then recognizes that he is looking up and not down at the drink he is pouring.

Turning to have a look for himself, Alric quickly registers the old orc woman with the leather eyepatch. Tilly One-Eye herself, he thinks to himself, watching her twirl the knife in her hands with an impressive display of skill. Although the din has died down considerably due to her presence, Alric still cannot quite make out what she is saying to the other orc in the ring, although from the tone and her expression, Alric sincerely doubts she is inviting him upstairs for tea.

Giving a slight nod to the Tarbintall brown haired young man next to him, he decides to try a bit of casual conversation with the seemingly non threatening man. "I don't quite know what she was telling him," he remarks, gesturing towards the shirtless half orc in the ring, "But I would daresay I wouldn't want to be him right now, eh?"

Damien
right-aligned image

Damien was prepared to defend himself if necessary.

Was.

As the drunk collapsed suddenly over onto him, a literal hiss escaped the vishkanya's lips and he wrinkled his nose. The old man smelled worse than he looked, and it totally threw off his concentration as the intimidating duo closed the remaining distance to their table. On their approach however, it was looking like violence WASN'T on the table... at least not toward Damien or his companions anyway. However, there was a still more interesting development... and as the kobold name-dropped their renowned leader, Damien's eyes slid up toward the balcony where Sandraminae was looking. Sure enough, there she was; Tilly "One-Eye" Gansog. So THIS was the woman he was trying to work for...

But Damien's concentration was broken again as the old drunk spoke to the orc looming over them. Damien grimaced, taking the man by the front of his shirt and shoving him away at arm's length.

"Off." Flashing the man an exasperated glare, he turned toward the orc and kobold, cocking his head toward the drunk he had clutched in his hand. "Are you fine folk the pest control? Please say yes."

The knife was worth only a moments hesitation. Vyeggar had eyes only for the referee.

"Five minutes will be plenty, although you may need a little longer to get some of this guy's blood cleaned up." He ignored the line about forfeiting some of his wages for hurting her employee. Never has money been better spent, he mused - and with that, he charged across the ring.

In his mad dash across the ring, Vyeggar raised his fist in the air, appearing as though he were going to strike high. It was at that point he dipped his broad shoulders and dove at the man's lower body,
