Character Creation, House Rules, and Etiquette

Character Creation
  • First, decide on your character first. Their personality, their looks, who are you playing? Mechanics are secondary
  • For stat, you have a 18-point buy to build your character; no rolling. Use this calculator to determine your point system.
  • For HP, take the highest for first level, then roll for all subsequent levels; alternately, beyond 1st level, you may take half of your HD for that class.
  • When selecting race, if you select Human let me know what kind of Human, as this determines the base languages I allow your character. I will apply the same logic to Human-derived races such as Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Tiefling, Aasimar, etc., given that they were raised in their Human parents' society.
  • Select two Traits: one from the Jade Regent Player's Guide, and one of your choice, so long as it is not a Campaign Trait. If it has prerequisites, you must meet them. If you want to rename/rework a Trait, let me know. I would prefer we not use 3rd party Traits.
  • Feats and Skills work as normal; I will grant a free Story Feat if you so desire, and we will be using Background Skills. Both must be discussed with me first, and justified.
  • For equipment, take either the average for your class, or roll the dice for your equipment. If you roll a 1, reroll.
  • I will allow you to take/apply a bonus to any item you have of up to 300 GP. So, if you wanted to make your sword masterwork, or pick up another item of or under that amount, do so!
  • On spells, I will expect you to use components and explain to me the verbal/somatic parts of the spell. If you want to change a component to something else to better fit your character, be my guest
  • For a list of Gods, see here. If you do not take a God, I will probably prod you about it. Likely with a knife
  • For languages, we will be using Pathfinder Campaign Setting languages. See the Human section above for more details
  • Every PC starts with 2 Hero Points; if you are interested in playing an Antihero, let me know
  • Link your character sheet to your character profile, or give me access to it.
  • Everyone starts at 0 XP, and is on the Medium XP Track.
  • If you have any questions, ask away

House RulesThese are houserules. That means that, instead of the normal system, we're using these. Naturally, these are negotiable. Do so in the Out of Character thread.
  • Rolling Initiative and Perception: Periodically I will ask everyone to roll a certain number of Initiative Rolls and/or Perception Rolls despite not being in a place those would be useful or at all relevant, as doing so will grant me the time and effort to make things go more quickly and keep us moving instead of having to pause while everyone rolls these actively every time they come up. For Initiative, if everyone rolls in advance, I can go ahead and average those in advance. Perception, meanwhile, serves a different purpose. You can roll a Perception check whenever you want. However, if you do not and we enter a new area, I will take the first roll you made but haven't used yet and use that to make it so your character looks around, listens, smells, etc. The reason for this is that your character might not actively be looking for something but will notice things sometimes; alternately, they may miss it. This is a fun little system I picked up from ScorchedOne, and give him full credit for.

Etiquette
  • Posts will be in the third person, of any tense of your choice. Future is discouraged. Present perfect is as well. No English Majors, please.
  • Any time your character speaks, put the post in bold. Like this: "I am Batman," said the mentally inept billionaire with parental issues.
  • Whenever you speak in thoughts, or for emphasis, or both, use italicized text, such as this: Man, I need to get a life, thought everyone, ever.
  • All in-game threads will require in-game posts, naturally. If you need to have Out of Character-speak, do so in either the OOC thread, or like this:

  • All rolls will be done in-thread, like It's this easy!
    Dice * Knowledge (DDoG Code):
    1d20-20 (8)-20 Total = -12
this. After that, edit your post (BUT NOT YOUR ROLL, BY GAWD) and place within your actions within, describing your actions with appropriate skill. For example, if you get a 14 on an attack, describe your attack with some proficiency; if you got a 2, explain why you failed. Like, tripping, or something.
  • Posting rates are entirely organic and depend on the players as much as the DM.
  • Combat will take place all at once: I will average the various sides of a battle together and compare them to the PCs. For example, Goblins will all be averaged together if there are 14 of them; if that average beats the average of PCs, Goblins go first. There is no turn order in that regard: PC 1 goes whenever they post, and if PC 1 posts before PC 3 one time, and then after them the next time, that's fine too.
  • Anything here is up for question. Ask me in OOC.

LanguagesThe languages of Golarion will be recorded here, including what we use to indicate each language.
