After engaging small talk with the general company, Wylan moved about the hall in search of his new squadmates. After locating the raven headed huntress, he sits down in the chair next to her. "Hello again, Lyla, are you enjoying the festivities?" hoping that broke the I've he jumps in to the point of his conversation "So you're from Draegin, I haven't heard too much of what it's like there, but I do know knights get sent there for long periods of time. Maybe we'll get to see your homeland. What's it like there?" Even though it sounded like Lyla wasn't too thrilled to be here, based on the previous conversation, he hoped he wasn't treading on a sore subject.

OOC: here is the world map (in .zip) http://www.rpgcrossing.com/attachmen...2&d=1273518835
Let me know if you can't open it, the file is old and decompressing it screws the map a tad, but expanding the basic shape of the world should make it clearer.

The room is buzzing with excitement, everyone is happy and glad to be here, even sullen faced Lyla is enjoying herself it seems. Wine flows, hours pass and you eventually disengage from the small talk and general congratulations to seek out Lyla. A few minutes of searching discovers her sampling wines with disgust, seems the little miss madame doesn't have a taste for fine wines.

As she goes to reply to your first question, the rest follow in a wild torrent, and she sits there taken aback, unable to get a word in edgeways. Eventually the rapid fire questions cease, and you realise the questions make you sound... eager... childish slightly perhaps.

"I'm from the border of Draegin and Cardin, fairly local in comparison to some. It's... quaint. The knights travel all over the nation, covering everything from the guarding of the palace to private investigators. We're a new breed of knight and squad... We'll have to see what we do."

She delves into a brief dissection of the Nation's squads, starting by nodding at the tank of a man that gave the first introductions. "Sir Stephen, green, Leader of the Tusk squad, Queen's personal defenders." Waving a finger at the scantily clad woman who tested your magical capabilities "Lady Sara, red, Leader of the Talon Squad, Elite attack force of the Nation"

Rolling around the room pointing at people and noting information "Orange, Star squad, inter county relations, Green stars, healers. There must be a hundred, if not more, squads in the Nation, traders, lawyers, healers. Even some people... on the other side of the law are honoured with knighthood. Though to what purpose I do not know."

Realizing that his rapid fire questions probably stated the conversion off on the wrong foot, Wylan's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Appreciative of Lyla's thorough explanation, Wylan nods along as Lyla describes the various squads and their functions. Upon hearing some "knights" we're known criminals, his face twisted into an expression of confusion and disappointment "i suppose the term knighthood is used a bit more loosely than I previously imagined."

Pondering the differences between the different squads "I know we're an experimental unit, but are all squads as small as ours?" He asked Lyla, clearly more knowledgeable on the subject than Wylan.

"A knight is defined by his service to the Queen..." she replies, though she looks concerned. "Though I do not know how they work under such a label... Informants? I do not know at all." She seems to be caught in something of a loop as she talks, wrapping her mind around the problem, lost in thought until your next question hits her. "No, most squads are around thirty men, four is most unusual... My father was a knight before retiring, he always hoped I'd follow in his footsteps." She smiles wistfully before turning back to look at you. "Is that it? Or is there more?" The question is icy, but she smiles. Perhaps there is a friendship in this after all?

Glad to see the smile, Wylan decided to leave well enough alone. "No nothing else, but thank you for taking the time to bring me up to speed." Graciously he bows out of the proximity of Lyla, moving on to the other attendees. Making his way through the crowd stopping occasionally for chitchat, he goes to speak to Lady Sara. Mentally preparing himself not to gawk at her attire, he greets her with a shallow bow. "Hello again, Lady Sara." Standing upright again, he smiles, thrilled to speak with a fellow magic user, who wasn't his father "I must say, I always enjoy a challenge, so I thank you for the trials today, for they were certainly that. They proved I have much to learn, and you have a great deal you could teach me."

Lyla lets you leave with a gracious smile. You manage to fight your way through the crowd of well wishers to lady Sara, who is amusing herself by turning peoples drinks different colours, she wheels around as you call her name, smiling brightly she listens patiently to you before replying "Those were mere minor magical incantations." out of the corner of your eye you notice someone pausing, drink raised to their mouth before stopping and jerking out of shock, noticing a bright purple liquid instead of the deeper, dark of the ale. Snapping her fingers the drinks revert to their normal state and she continues "I have been training for many years, apparently their are few like me around, but I do what I can" For a moment she looks at you, not saying anything, face blank and emotionless, before reverting to her perky, happy self "Some cannot be taught, an innate gift is one that must be harnessed."

Motioning you to the side of the courtyard she carries on talking, though in a quieter voice. "I am sure you are aware of your special status as a squad, and indeed, we have a special... mission for you first thing tomorrow. An envoy will be sent for you first thing tomorrow."
Smiling once again she turns and returns to mingling with the party.

Smiling and nodding Wylan leaves her to her crowd of onlookers, "Thank you Lady Sara." His mind still swimming with questions, he moves through the hustle and bustle of the party to find a quiet corner or hallway. Skipping from topic to topic, he found it hard to gather his thoughts. It was a big day with lots of sights, sounds, people, and information, all floating around in his brain. Soon, as he begins to catch his breath, he realized how tired he was becoming. Perhaps it was the fact the tests were more mentally demanding than he thought, or perhaps time got away from him the party, or both. With his belly full of fine food and drink, he decided he would let the rest his unanswered questions remain until tomorrow, when he would be given an assignment. Now all he longed for was a bed, and a pillow, and a blanket.

Gathering his belongings, Wylan begins hunting down his quarters, Ready to embrace slumber.

You find your room easily enough, there are plenty of ushers ushering people to their quarters, typically squads shared rooms while they were in the capital, assuming they stayed in the palace at all, but for tonight, where many were yet to garner a squad, stayed in simple rooms in the lower floors of the palace. You sleep easily, peacefully, the world seems at right with itself, dreaming of knights on white horses with polished to perfection armour, saving princesses, being honoured as heroes by all.

The morning comes quickly and a weak knock at the door rouses you from your restful slumber. A mild mannered servant requests that you follow him. Hurriedly getting ready you follow him down the typical mazes of halls and corridors, back outside into the grand courtyard from the night before. Perfectly clear, as if the party never happened, Lady Sara, Sir Stephen, Lyla, Niri and Denholm stand, along with two other, slightly older men, so similar they cold be twins.

"Thank you for joining us" Stephen intones with his deep and sombre voice. "We have a mission for you, this" he says, slapping a large crate by his side "Is full of lapisters. I am sure you know of their worth, how important they are for the Nation as a whole? Well we need these escorted to Yllan, in the north, whole trip should take about two weeks give or take. Bandit attacks are on the rise."

Shaking hands with the two mysterious men he introduces them to you "This is Felix and this is Celix, more... mature members of the knightly order, they will help your escort, consider them guides, enablers as you will"

The two men smile and lift up the box, grunting under the strain, as Stephen starts walking towards the exit "Keggers is outside with the cart. You leave immediately. Good luck, may you have the Queen's guidance."

Lady Sara and Sir Stephen leave promptly as you walk out with the two men, finding a donkey and a cart... Seems the donkey is called Keggers...

Wylan awakens after a restful night's sleep, though he wondered how many of those he'd get in the future. Hefting his bag and donning his gear, he follows the servant to the gathering. Late again, he wondered why he was always the last to know about these things. However he is quick to dismiss such frivolous thoughts after seeing the stern looks on everyone's faces.

He notes every instruction given by Sir Stephen, intending to follow them to the letter. Though, this mission seemed odd. A lone valuable cart with six obvious members of the knighthood sounded like a poor tactical choice, as this convoy would appear to be an easy for the rising number of bandit attacks. Wylan puts those doubts aside for the moment, as has been learning his preconceptions about the knighthood were... inaccurate to say the least.

Giving his five companions another once over, he breaks the silence "No time like the present," resting his staff across his shoulders, "shall we be off?"

Nodding the two men start to walk in front of the cart, obviously not intending to help with the motivation of the donkey. Lyla mushes the donkey onwards and it lopes slowly towards the front gate, progress is slow as you push your way through crowds towards the city wall, it almost takes a full hour to travel the scant distance. Eventually leaving the gleaming walls of the capital, you turn slightly east and begin your way north towards Yllan.

OOC: if you want to chat, feel free, otherwise I'll skip on
