Creative poetry contest - All welcome!

Join in!
Creative poetry contest!

Let's have a little fun writing poetry together.

To avoid confusion, please post the topic of the poem above it in bold letters.
Your title can be something different, but it might help if it somehow at least has some connection to the current topic.
You can make the poem as long as you want, but I would strongly suggest keeping it under 2 pages (A4) and please hide it under spoiler tags to preserve RPGX's bandwidth as much as possible.

I'll start us off with an easy topic: Sunset

Good luck everyone!

P.S.: I'm open to hearing comments on the format and if you think anything should be handled differently.
P.P.S.: Perhaps we can even bundle the winning entries and publish them in kindle format after a year? Might be interesting, right?

Sunset

Sunset

left-aligned image
The last rays

A soft breath of wind
lightly ripples the water
of the pond
reflecting the setting sun.

The wooden bench is uncomfortable,
especially after sitting on it for hours,
but the last rays of daylight,
still warm and endlessly relaxing,
bathe the landscape in golden crimson
and make it all worthwhile.

right-aligned image
It's dinner time,
time to go home
and prepare a meal,
but not yet...
not yet.

Let us first feast our eyes
upon the spectacle the Earth provides daily,
before tending to the corporeal needs
of our already overfed bodies.

For we can gaze upon the setting sun
every day of our lives
and never get full
except for in our hearts.

Sunset PoemA Sonnet for a Sunset

Repeatedly I have been heard to say
That I shall never leave my urban life,
For having lived in many different ways
It's only here that I feel all is right.
Yet some things I'll admit I often miss
From life where everything around is green:
The stars, obscured by neon-lighted mists,
The colors with which country skies can gleam,
The layered hues of subtle grades of light
That cannot fail to touch a watcher's heart!
They fill the sky when day turns into night,
Each time creates a unique work of art.
Because of this, I travel now and then,
So I might see the sunset once again.

Giacomo da Lentini was Here

My opened eyes knew that this time was right. Her soft approach could never be in haste,
born from that flaming eye that burned the night, she'll vanish with a starlight's cold embrace.
Her breasts that heav'd the warmer breath of day, afforded comfort to my weary soul.
Though once she's passed the larks no more shall play, and her memories shall never more be be more whole,
I'll find her fading kiss within my dreams, and love her more than poetry by morning's glow it seems.

edit: Poetry's first draft is rarely perfect. Constructive observation from critical review allows a poet to refine the craft, improve the expression, and elevate the work. As sonnets go, there's room to grow.

The closer it draws
the more I fear it.
Not the sunset itself. That is inevitable.
But the loss of myself, before.

I would like most, I think
To run right up to the moment
Full. Aware. Alive. And see the last colors of my life.

Rather than dim, and clouded by storms that have wracked me, and taken from me everything I love.

As a youth, I saw every day the sunrise.
And didn't care about the set. Darkness was just another playtime. Or sleep time, until the sun rose again.
But now... there may not be a sunrise.

Only the last set.

I'll give my first vote to Admin Dirk, because I really enjoyed the melancholy tone of it, but that's highly personal of course.
Runner up for me would be Thelogicalghost, whose beautiful imagery captures the imagination wonderfully.

I'll also throw my support behind Admin Dirk this week. Existentialism will always win with me!

I agree with Wish - hard to choose just one when they’re all so beautiful!
I’ll cast a vote for A Sonnet for a Sunset. thelogicalghost’s poem made me think the most with its dichotomy of a sunset in an urban vs. a natural environment.
