At one point, the first post already mentioned the slave thing, so I added it into my story, pretty easy to work around or not as needed. Gear doesn't seem to be too critical, so I'm fine with the idea.
I'll think on my goals and add them to Amet-sur's application, but my first instinct is `to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet`.

Updated my app with goals etc. Also I have no issue starting as an escaped slave. My application is now complete, unless you need anything further from me.

So what do the two ninjas think about languages? As I said I'll have an easy linguistic synergy with the Stygian character, but not so much with people from the middle kingdom.

It's not unrealistic with us being escaped slaves to not share a language, but it might make things more awkward.

I'm also for being able to understand each other, which is why I am asking. The rulebook suggests the same: To just discuss what the shared language could be amongst the group.

As for Conan, he certainly gained expertise in the linguistics skill, considering "Anyone with one or more ranks of training in Linguistics is assumed to have a basic working knowledge of all common languages spoken across the known world, as well as a passing familiarity with dead or lost languages like Atlantean or Ancient Stygian."

The game assumes anybody can communicate with anybody anyway, but to do it well one has to be fluent. Considering we won't be using any social skills on each other maybe it's not entirely necessary to share a language, but it's something I'll take into account in the way I write my posts. I'm not into negating the specifics of the setting if the alternative is as easy as picking a country that is somewhere between our homelands and everybody picking that as a second (or in my case third) language.

It all goes out the window if the GM says we will be starting in unrelated nation x, because then I would obviously just take the language of that place, because I'd prefer not to have the difficulty of social skills raised, and I assume you would do the same.

Yeah, I'm not too fussy either - but I'd like to hear from the Gm about where the game will be set first. Otherwise I am still for splitting the difference and going for something between Stygia/Shem and Aquilonia/Hyperboria, so one of the languages of the nations located on the imaginary line drawn from Argos to Turan.

Is that the opinion of your character too then? Just wondering, considering the description of Hyperborea (Which I assume you meant - Hyborea is not a place of origin but the name for the "Age" the setting is in) starts with them being feared slavers in the first line.

Thanks for catching that for me, I forgot to get specific on where he was from.
Yes that was not only my opinion IRL, but also my character's...even though he does not exist.

Application Name: Freja Foxcoat Homeland: Nordheim Physical Description (picture optional): Freja stands at 5'10 and looks to be on the leaner side. Her long blonde hair is tied into two small braids that rest just above her chest, and tumbles down to below her shoulder blades in the back. She has thick blonde eyebrows that seem to almost always be pressed together in tandem with her judging blue eyes. Her body is covered in various furs and skins of different beasts, a cobbled together design of various oranges, blues, and grays. Combat Role: Ranged mostly, but when in melee approaches with two weapons Non-Combat Role: Lore collector, informant, treasure hunter Background: Born to a family of thieves and beggars, Freja quickly learned that someone of her status can go far by stealing the right things from the right people. What started as stealing bread to survive soon fell into stealing valuables to pawn for drinks at the tavern, until the reach of the law got ahold of her. Exiled for her crimes, she joined a group of traveling sellswords, helping them plunder riches from long-forgotten civilizations in decrepit lairs. Goals/Subplots: Freja hopes to find enough rare artifacts that she can sell herself into an early retirement from the harsh side of life. Her end goal is to become some form of nobility so that she can rest all day reading books. RP Sample: "Keep your rotten trousers onna minute." Freja said as she was crouched over the strange block, studying the symbols scattered about it. Her cohorts waited impatiently to her side, hosting the only light that shines in this part of the dungeon. Groans of annoyance mumbled out of them while Freja slowly moved her hands across the surface of the block, her fingertips grazing the carved runes. She let out a soft murmur, eyes closed, intensely concentrated on what she knows of the people who once claimed this land as home. In an instant, her eyes shot up with clarity, and she began to press tightly on the runes before spinning them. As she aligned the symbols, the box began to slowly reveal its contents: A small statue of an unknown god made entirely of ruby. "You see what happens when you let me think?" she sneers at her party members, slowly peering about within the box for any booby-traps that could spell certain doom this far from civilization. After a close inspection, she carefully lifts the idol out of its storage, tucking it safely into the bag resting at her hip. "We've got more than enough now, let's leave and return another day." She stood herself upright again as she put away the various tools laid out before the stone. With a cough and a nod, the party began to make their way out of the lair.

Ok, deadline is here, so no more interest posts.

Bad news is, that there wasn't more interest. Good news is that I was thinking of 4-6 players, and we have 6 who expressed interest. Keylan mentioned that he was on an assignment where he might not have internet so whenever he returns, I'll get with him and work things out.

Since there was some hesitation about the beginning as slaves thing, I went with my alternate. I've updated the initial post to reflect it as well. You are beginning in the jungles to the far south, past Stygia, Kush, Keshan and Darfar. Wealth and Glory and the unknown have brought you together.

You all will be able to choose one language in common, in addition to your languages based on character creation. If the language is one that your character already has, then you may select one additional language to know instead.

Any other questions or concerns you may have that I may have missed?

I'll make the request for a game and well go from there.

Just got back from my fire assignment. I was thinking of a Cimmerian barbarian. I have somewhat of a backstory for him that I can flesh out this weekend after the Thanksgiving beast feast are all done.

Here is the beginnings of his background:

Magnus comes from a large family in the northern reaches of the realms. He has 5 brothers and 4 sisters of which he is the youngest. Magnus grew up on stories of great adventures including some stories of his father and his oldest brother, both who set out to see the world. One day while hunting with his friend Toren a freak storm came down from the mountains. Magnus and Toren were chased into a nearby cave to wait out the storm. As the storm raged outside, the companions could hear strange noises somewhere outside. At one point in the night Toren swore that he could see faces in the blowing snow, Magnus laughed it off as Toren’s imagination. Shortly thereafter as the storm continued to rage Magnus and Toren fell asleep despite their best efforts to stay awake. When Magnus awoke the next morning Toren was gone. The only sign Magnus could find were footprints melted into the snow heading toward his home. Magnus quickly gathered his gear and headed home. As he neared his home he could feel that something was amiss. As he rounded the last hill before his home he could see and smell what could only be a smoldering fire. There where his family cabin use to stand was a smoldering husk with little to identify it as a house. As Magnus ran to his home he began to see the same footprints as that were outside the cave last night. Upon searching the wreckage, Magnus found his mother’s body, badly burned and barley recognizable. With her dying breath she described the creature that came with the storm. After his mother was dead and buried Magnus took his father’s battleaxe and swore to track down and kill whoever or whatever this vile creature is.

I am fine with any sort of beginning story arc. Though I have to say, (Film Version) Conan himself started out as a slave, so it would have been good enough for me.
