Response to SilverThe way I'm reading it, a roll almost always uses an attribute, and usually a skill. The only case I can find of not adding an attribute to a roll is ranged weapons (other than bows), which have a fixed number of dice rolled. The wild dice is not an additional dice rolled, it is just the first dice from the dice you are already rolling. So if you are rolling with an attribute of 2D and a skill of 1D+1, you roll 3D+1, not 4D+1. You can have a skill of 0D+0, but an attribute can never be lower than 1D, and you'll never roll a skill without an attribute. Does that make sense?
With specializations, I'm not entirely clear what the question is, but it sounds like maybe you want to know if you can spend one skill dice to get specialty dice and then put the three specialty dice you get into specializations for different skills? Assuming that is what you're asking, I don't know what the official answer is, but I'd allow it.
For perks and complications outside of those listed in the character creation system, you can try looking in the sample settings starting on page 23 (Not everything there will be appropriate, but there might be something good, or something that could be modified to something good). If you don't find anything there, I'm happy to try to design something for you if you give me a clear idea of what you want and how it would work. Specifically for your forgetfulness complication, that seems... hard to make actually fun in play. The case I could see that showing up is basically "you've figured something out, but I'm calling your complication into effect so you have to pretend you haven't figured it out".

ColtThanks for the breakdown! BTW, Colt's personality is now included in the app.

Hmm, that's a really good point. It's hard not to use info I've got as a character even if I end up forgetting it, and the way the mechanic works could sometimes seem more contrived than interesting. Then, I think I could rework it into something that may be better suited for the more cinematic nature of the system, how does this sound? It's based around the rules of the Cursed complication, from the "Farnsley's Phantasm Investigations" setting:

New ComplicationSocial Anxiety: You don't really work well under pressure. When you're being watched, you keep getting the feeling that you'll do something wrong... Whenever you're put in a stressful situation, like being asked a question at school, trying to ask the librarian for a favor, or being pursued by some spectral apparition, the GM may rule that you're too unfocused, and rule a roll related to this situation to automatically fail. When the GM takes advantage of this, you earn 1 bonus CP.

Also, I thought of a perk that could serve to help with the Jack of All Trades concept! Hopefully it is balanced enough, since it seems to be mostly in line with the rest of the perks in the list (the ones that grant dice rerolls or bonuses all cost 2 points, it seems):

New PerkI Can Help With That! (2): You've conveniently studied up on a lot of different fields, and you're a very quick learner! Once per session, if you're aiding or doing a favor for someone else, you may double the result of any one skill roll related to the task.

Edit: I thought about how to implement the Forgetfulness aspect as well! Mary currently has a high Wit score, representing her ability to actually gather information; however, if I give her the No Book Learning complication from "Perdition: Tales of Damned Fool Heroes", all of her Wit skills but one increase by +5 in difficulty, which could be played as her having trouble to remember specific facts or info, even if she's actually smart. It's not as crippling because she's actually smart, but it's a way to represent her not being very good at remembering things, don't you think? Also, forgot to mention it originally, but yeah, that's exactly what I meant with the Specialty dice, thanks for clarifying!

Treble83: You're welcome and thank you.

Silver Sonome: I'd accept those perks and complications as presented now. The restriction on I Can Help With That is a bit loosely defined, but comparing to Lucky, I think I can be generous with what counts and still remain balanced. Giving Forgetfulness a concrete mechanical effect seems much safer to me in terms of gameplay fun compared to the prior version.

Sorry, I just got into a game, so I'm afraid I need to withdraw from this one.

On second thought... I'm stretched a bit too thin to learn a new system right now. I'm going to have to withdraw as well. Best of luck with your game!

Ah, it's unfortunate to see people go, but at least I'm glad to see that you're conscious of how many games you can handle. Good luck with your other campaigns!

Hmm... Alright. Then, to narrow it down a little, how about limiting 'helping people' to persons that actively ask for my help? That makes the ability a bit more focused and accurate for Mary's character; she can offer her help, but if the other person doesn't want any, forcing herself to aid wouldn't be very useful. And that way we get rid of loopholes like 'ehh this will help you in the long run' or stuff like that. What do you think?

Sorry to see you two go, but I hope you have fun with your other games.

Silver: If you'd like to change that you may, but as I said, I think even with generous interpretation of the looser definition its no stronger than the Lucky perk, so I'll leave that up to you.

I've reopened applications, due to a player leaving because she had too much on her plate.

Are you still looking for another? I’m very interested in the premise and downloaded the rules, but I’m a little nervous about learning a new system.

We're still looking, and I'm planning on going light on the rules with most of the focus on the mysteries and intellectual challenge. Please write up an application and we'll probably bring you in.

Interested

Hi my name is Thomas and my user name is tcavlee. I am interested in learning more about the rule system and game. This would be my second pbp but I have enjoyed it so far. I can post on a daily basis.
