Replied to your PM with links to books. And as you will see it is possible to be even skilled in two areas at Greenhorn level. Even very low abilities in some skills can grow rather quickly sometimes as your character advances. And it's always good to have someone else on the crew who can pilot and mechanic, even if their skills are lower than others. Same goes with using a gun, tech skills, people skills, etc.

Yep, but you'd have to be down-right creative with the backstory to explain why she would be in the Game starting place, and... there's another "game changer" at the beginning that will make staying a companion difficult.

Hmmm.... Now that's a thought.

Players:
I've RP'd Serenity RPG quite a number of times and sometimes forget how the book is laid out.
That said, Greenhorn Level Characters get 42 points to spend on Attributes and 62 points to spend on Skills. (I didn't mention the skills part in the opening advert - though I'll change that now. )
Yes, it does mention this in the section about skills, but it doesn't in the early pages of the book when talking about Greenhorn level. I remember when I first saw the Game system and thought 42 points wasn't much to spen don Attributes and skills, and what a "wuss" my character would be. Until, of course, I got to the skills section and when "OOOOhhhhh...."

So I decided to have a little fun with that application, if you want I'll fill in any other details you need. So far I'm going to continue reading the handbook and see if it'll give me any ideas as to which planet she's from and see about working a full background. Consider this a work in progress but I think I answered everything except her background, which I will work on in a bit. Still reading through the book.

Heh... right. Well, leaf in the wind and drinking problem are. Leaf on the wind is an asset, while Drinking problem is a complication. The others there can be matched up somewhat with either an asset or complication.
It's been my experience with this system that sometimes an asset can turn into a pain in the ass, while a complicaton can work in your favor (thought mostly the latter are exactly as the category suggests... a complication and then some.)
They definitely add flavor to the game, always fun, imho...

Okay Players, I'm waiting on Game Mods to finish setting up the Game Forum so keep working on those characters.
So far there's six candidates, and still room for one more.

Here's a rough list, and the character types aren't fully decided, so bear that in mind. I just threw a broad title at each player's submission so far. Once the forum is up, all of you can begin creating the character and fully fleshing them out.

These are things I thought up that are part of my character's personality. Most of them are likely in one of the books and at least one is borrowed from a movie quote.
