![]() Freedom's Flight The Firefly Vessel "Freedom's Flight" is prepared to set off into the black. Ever sail in a Firefly? Characters are joining a crew of folk who have been through an adventure or two. They need some more crew. Timeframe will be just after events of Firefly T.V. Series Final Episode and prior to Events of the Motion Picture “Serenity.” What 'type' of game will it be? Game will be typical of the Firefly/Serenity theme. Players’ characters will be part of crew – a team. Each should have motivations and or reasons to have joined a crew, and to stay part of one. Obviously, these motivations and reasons do not have to be known by other characters. How many Players are you looking for? 1-2 Have Captain, Pilot, Mechanic, and Doc type characters. Create what you want. What is the characters' starting level? Greenhorn +6 Advancement points to be on the same level as current Crew. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with? This is determined by the starting level of the game, which is Greenhorn. Point buy system - 42 points for Attributes, 62 points for Skills. Are there any particular character “things that you want... or do not want? Some Traits, Complications may be limited to minor. “Reader Trait is most definitely limited to minor if you choose to purchase. Mute complication cannot be chosen. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Uh-duh. Human only please. No aliens in the ‘Verse, people are weird enough as it is. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game ? All players will do their own die rolling. GM will roll for all NPCs and all nasty ‘Verse surprises. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that Players should know about? Yes. Here are the posting Rules: POSTING: GM posts will be 48 hours apart maximum. This is a sliding window. If you miss the window, then the game will not be held up for your character and he/she will be drug along at the GM’s Discretion. If all players post in less than 48 hours after the last GM post, GM will – most of the time – post soon thereafter, thus speeding up the game. Is a character background required? Are you looking for anything in particular? Yes. Characters Backgrounds are up to players, though should be looking to be part of a ship's crew. The “Hows” and “Whys” of this is strictly up to the player. Secrets are encouraged. GM reserves right to “suggest” changes be made before game start for better “flow” of game. Are your Players restricted to particular rule books and supplements? Yes. ![]() Name: Pang Zi Hao Age: 26 Sex: Male Background: Zi Hao is the third child of Pang Zheong, the de facto boss of the Sun Yee On Tong, arguably one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the 'verse besides the Syndicate themselves, and Zi Hao has spent years as a lieutenant for his respected and much-loved elder sister, Dao Ming. A year ago however, his father called him into his office and asked if he ever intended to rise into the leadership of the organization, or to spend his whole life as a subordinate to his sister. When Zi Hao did not hesitate to proclaim his loyalty to Dao Ming, Zheong pointed out that, if he earned no reputation of his own, eventually he would become less useful to his sister and the highest echelons of the Sun Yee On, not to mention their Alliance and Syndicate contacts, would come to think of him as nothing more than Dao Ming's yapping dog. That was enough to set him in motion, and taking his father's challenge to heart, he left the family home on their Tong's stronghold, Gonghe. In the months since, he's relied only on his personal funds(which are not inestimable, as he's spent years investing well) and trading on his own name with his contacts, in many cases, he's even assumed the alternate identity of Lo Ping, a drug-runner and fence. He's had mixed success and both his names have started to gain some weight of their own, but at the moment he's managed to come into some contraband that the local crimeboss feels is his rightful property and that the regional authority feels nobody ought to have on their planet at all. Having decided that his chances of ending the... misunderstanding... with words aren't enough to risk his neck over, he's decided he needs to get back up in the black, like ma shong, and has decided to go looking for passage at the spaceport. What this character would bring to the group would be expertise and contacts in the criminal underworld, and experience in effortlessly handling a variety of aggressive and paranoid personality types. Assets: Allure Friends in Low Places Moneyed Individual Alternate Identity Blue Blood Complications: Family Ties Credo Hero Worship Superstitious For skills I'm thinking primarily Influence and Covert and of course he knows how to operate a firearm. Skillset: Face (Social Stuff!) Planned Assets: Allure (Major), Highly Educated (Minor), Sweet and Cheerful (Minor), Things Go Smooth (Major), Friends in High Places (Minor) Planned Complications: Absent-Minded (Minor), Idealist (Minor), Two Left Feet (Major), Easy Mark (Major), Non-Fightin' Type (Minor) Description: Long story short, Sunshine is what many men, rimworld and coreworld alike, might think of as the ideal woman. She's terribly attractive, well-skilled at social interaction, a damn good cook, and even can handle herself in a duel. To those of discerning taste, the problems come in when one notices just how much of a klutz she is, and how she's...well...not the brightest. She tends to be suckered into things easily and expects everyone to be as nice as she is. But then again, to the predatory sort, that might make her all that much better. With a guiding authority figure, she could make a great face for any organization, but left to her own devices, she's just the sort that floats through life on her good looks and accomplishes little of actual import. Background: Sunshine came from a family closely attached to and in the service of a noble family deeply immersed in trade and business ventures between core and rim worlds, giving her an early appreciation for a variety of cultures and different types of people. She worked as a page from an early age--a trumped-up errand-girl at the beck and call of her family's employers and was even sent off to finishing school (though much of it didn't stick) to further smooth over her rough edges. As she came of age, her family was very inclined to find her a suitor in the echelons of nobility, as they were quite pragmatically aware that she had indisputably won the genetic lottery and could represent a huge social up-jump for the family. Unfortunately, while she was a hopeless romantic and loved the company of a variety of suitors, she vehemently resisted the idea of marriage, and there was little arguing with Sunshine when she had made up her mind. Gullible as she may be, stubbornness can easily take root once she thinks she actually does know something for sure. It is a result of this familial pressure that Sunshine has decided to take passage on a ship in exchange for her services. She has a hard time selling herself, having only known the life of a high-class servant girl of sorts, but the way in which she carries herself and sculpts her phrases might be enough to convince someone in search of a soft voice to represent a comparatively rough crew. Note: I created a couple of characters while learning the Serenity RPG rules just now. I have one of the tech/hacker persuasion, should that skillset be needed, but after seeing the previous post, I went this route instead. ![]()
