The horrible case of Mr. and Mrs. Grant, and their dog Mitten

Game NameThe horrible case of Mr. and Mrs. Grant, and their dog Mitten
Game SystemCall of Cthulhu
ThemeMystery/Horror
FlavourCoC1990's
Plot SummaryYou don't really remember much from last night. You stayed out drinking and gave most of the day to last night. When you open your eyes you're no longer in your own room, or wherever you were. You're tied down to a bed in a dark room lit only by a small gas light hung in the middle of the room. Three others lay tied up as well. You need to get out of here, but where do you start? All of your gear is gone, whatever you had on you, a gun, cigarettes, house keys, nothing is left but your clothes, not even shoes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game is written for four players. This is my first time as keeper in a Cthulhu game so it's not perfect. The whole story, or at least 90% of it, takes place inside the house you're in at the beginning. The story unfolds as players get out of the beds and move around the house, which is a very large estate. Maps will be provided as well as other material I'm writing. The game has no set start date yet, but expect at least two weeks before prelim. stuff is ready. Character rules are base from 5.6e rulebook. All professions open. Players start with nothing from the get go, however you have $100 to buy gear, the stuff you'll recover from last night, later on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game is MATURE, mature themes, including drug use, alcohol, sexual themes and detailed acts of violence and grotesqueness will be in play. Player characters have no REAL restrictions on ANYTHING, but my ideal players will fit a certain mould; gruff and damaged (the drunk ex cop), easily disposed to violence and not afraid of confrontation, committed some past wrong bad enough to require true redemption (murder, rape, child abduction etc.. make it good).. But as I said, no player NEEDS to fit this mould, I'll accept any player who seems interesting.

Posting tentative interest as I always want to try CoC but sadly the two I joined so far barely started before they fell apart, so fingers crossed on this one.

As a site Moderator, I am just posting to mention the site is under a PG-13 philosophy in terms of game play.

Please be mindful when posting.

I have no problem or great difficulty in toning down the theme. It won't be an issue.

Yeah every time I've tried a PbP CoC game it falls apart. To me I think it's less conducive to this mode of play than DnD or something because it's more story than action driven, so the games get boring and thick quickly.

Nathan "Bubba" Beaumont
right-aligned image

Profession: Disabled Veteran/Social Worker

Personal History:
Nathan Beaumont is the son of a butcher and homemaker from Valdosta, GA. He was an athlete in high school, a strong wrestler and a talented thrower with the hammer, but his grades were mediocre. At age 18, he decided to join the United States Army and became an Army Ranger. Nathan is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, where he did see combat as part of 1st Ranger Bn. Nathan serves seven years in the United States Army until he was involved in a parachuting accident where he broke his pelvis and his right femur. Nathan was medically discharged from the Army and now walks with a noticeable limp.

After the Army, Nathan had issues with alcoholism and pain pill addiction for a time, but he overcame them and began to apply himself by working through the Veterans Administration. He currently holds focus groups and works as a social worker for the VA.

Brief description of personal philosophy:
Nathan is still a Ranger at heart. As a Ranger, he'll never quit, he'll always lead the way, and he never accepts defeat.

Player (not characters) favorite movie:
For horror movies, I'm a Halloween guy. Michael Myers is my favorite slasher villian. For movies in general, I'm a Western guy. "The Magnificent Seven" is one of my favorites.

I initially did rolls but decided against it, as I wasn't sure if you wanted to use the standard rolls or if you had another system.
Warning: rolls have been deleted from this post.

Do you have a deadline for applications set and/or have you chosen any players/character types yet?

You said CoC 90s... are we doing 6th ed, or 7th? I'm very newb on 7th, wouldn't know much about what I was doing. Your ad said "5.6e", not sure what that means.

CoC is pretty hard to get started around here, we really don't have enough people versed in it. I don't have a lot of spare time to give to a new game, but I'm sympathetic to CoC so I'll happily give it a try, and see if I can scrounge up a party for it if the response is low. It's always fun to start tied down in a strange room, though.

See, I'd argue that that makes it MORE conducive to PbP, this is a great medium for rich, detailed stories. I just think the problem is that there's no SRD-equivalent and not a lot of people exposed to it. And, of course, the standard CoC problem: people have to go into it accepting that they'll be lucky if they even survive, let alone win.

I am still willing to give this a go as well if there are enough other players, I would love to see a COC game get played through.
