Appearance: Laura has a human appearance, standing 5 feet tall and a slender body frame. Her eyes are black, as well as her hair, which is kept no longer than shoulder length. Thanks to the crew of the ship Kipp found her on, she wears a loose fitting, casual looking shirt and pants that does not reveal her figure. This outfit usually leads to people assuming she is a teenage boy, and not an adult woman.

Personality: For the most part of 10 years Laura has been kept secluded from the real world in a lab and experimented on. She has lost the point of subtlety. What she thinks is expressed to whomever she is talking to. She finds it hard to trust, except Kipp who helped her without reason. At times of extreme emotion her animal instincts take over and she could lose her temper quickly after. Laura is able to function on her own, but follows Kipp’s lead and directions.

Background Title: Urchin

Background Writeup: Laura grew up in a tribe of shifters near some mountain ranges in the northern part of the main continent. One day while out on a hunt with her parents she was kidnapped by slavers and watched as her parents were killed trying to save her. The slavers sold Laura to a testing lab on a remote island, where she was kept with other shifter pre-teens.

The lab “trained and conditioned” tortured her and the others, in order to mold them into weapons. After 10 years of this training she was brought alone to a city on a mission to kill one of the other shifters as a covert survivor of the fittest. Laura was able to mortally wound the other shifter, who was able to help her escape off the island. The dying shifter was able to hold of the security force that was coming to collect Laura as she ran to a ship leaving port. The dying shifter was able to give Laura enough time to get on the boat, and escape the security force. Laura was able to remain on the ship undetected for a couple of days, that is until hunger and thirst nearly over came her. On the second night at sea she tried to steal food and drink off a table in a secluded room. Laura was finishing the food and drink when someone entered the room and found her. Still weak from hunger, Laura gave a weak growl, but kept eating. It was either the feral look in her eye or something she could not explain, but the intruder did not bother her. He actually said Please eat, no one will miss that meal more than you. Laura later learned his name was Kipp and wanted to help her, believing she was an orphan, looking younger than she actually was. Laura was able to become part of the crew with Kipp’s help, and enjoyed her short stint on the ship. When Kipp finished his tour with the ship Laura followed. She felt like she owed him for the help and kindness he showed on their first meeting.

What you'd like to get from this game: I have always been excited when DM’s put puzzles that the PC’s can solve to move on to the next location. Also the character development between the other PC’s help keep the team together.

 

1: How did you get here?I arrived this afternoon on a … merchant ship.

2: Why have you come? We stopped at the port and we are looking for wares. Laura said dismissing the question from the bar keep.

3: When did it all start? We just arrived. She then realized that the barkeep meant something different. I have been with them for a while. I have lost track of the time. When at sea there is no real need to keep track of the days as it’s the same thing every day.

4: Who have you met along the way? I have been in the company of… Laura paused, looking for the word that would cause less suspicion than pirates, sailors, exploring the open sea.

5: What is the point? She looks down at her hands wondering if her claws came out unexpectedly. Point!?! There is no point. Laura said as she tries to conceal her finger tips, in case the bar keep looked harder. Still hiding her fingers, she turned to leave the bar.

6: Where next? The last question causes her to stop in her tracks. I… I don’t know. Laura’s head drops, with the weight that she truly does not know where to find the one man she seeks. Laura exits the bar, not wanting to answer any more questions.

 

Step 1:

BG 1: From an unknown land that is mainly covered in trees. A heavily wooded area.

BG 2: Kidnapped from family and tested on by scientists. Forced to hunt and kill to survive as part of the testing.

BG 3: Started to be tested in more urban environment where I was able to escape.

BG 4: Escaped on a pirate ship with Kipp.

BG 5: Found by Kipp and became friends. Left the ship with Kipp.

Step 2:

Goal 1: Laura would like to find the lab where she was experimented on, and kill the leader that is responsible for those experiments.

Goal 2: I would like to develop Laura into a more kind and morally just person, and in the end if she does find the leader, she will be conflicted in killing him or letting him live in a jail cell.

Step 3:

Secret 1: Laura is on a mission to kill the leader of the lab that ran ruthless experiments on her and others like her.

Secret 2: The parents that Laura remembers were really her foster parents, paid to raise her. Her true father is the leader of the Lab that she wants to kill.

Step 4:

[B]Tied 1 (Friendly): Kipp

[b]Tied 2 (Friendly): Shifter that helped Laura escape.

Tied 3 (Hostile): The leader of the lab that ran the experiments.

Step 5:

MeMoQui 1: The memories of my parents drive me and the images of their death reminds me of my goal to seek my revenge on the person running the experiments.

MeMoQui 2: In the middle of battle, especially when her beast side comes out, Laura gets lost in the fight and might keep fighting, when others want to retreat.

MeMoQui 3: The day Kipp found her on the ship, she feared that she would be thrown overboard. That is until she told him she was orphaned and all alone. He brought her under his wing and found a job for her to do on the ship. She has followed him faithfully.

Step 6:

Personality: I hide scrapes of food and trinkets away in my pockets, and bluntly say what other people are hinting at or hiding.

Bonds: I owe a debt I can never repay to the person who took pity on me.

Ideals: I help the people that help me… it is was keeps us alive.

Flaws: Sometimes in fights I lose track of my surroundings and become focused on attacking the enemy. Meaning it is unlikely I will do non-lethal damage, will not run from a fight.

Step 7:

Fear 1: That when she shifts into the beastly form, she will scare her companions and they will hate and attack her, and call her monster.

Fear 2: Lightning frightens her, because she would be shocked and electrocuted when she did something the scientists found counterproductive.

Hope 1: A clear night sky gives Laura hope that as long as she is not caged, she will complete her goal.

Hope 2: The kindness shown to her by Kipp gives her hope that she can trust those who show her kindness and not hostility.

Current Character Ideas You May Have: I have spoken with Avner to use his character as a friendly acquaintance. I would like to develop that into a full friendship, without romance. Laura is trained as monk in fighting spirit, but not belief. I would like for her to develop a more spiritual connection to fighting deity that would teach her the need for order and restraint. This will also help her develop sympathy for the leader of the experiments and capture him rather than kill him. I would also hope to have a side quest for the group to find the island to make that choice.

Yeohven uses same gods as Forgotten Realms, but their alignment may be... more relaxed... it's on a case by case basis. Ask if you have a specific god or gods in mind.

I don't know the gods of Forgotten Realms well enough... guess I'll peruse them for a good-aligned deity. I like Eldath, but she might be too peaceful for a paladin, while Ilmater might be too bloody (literally speaking) for this character... murgh...

Just FYI, it is a week to the deadline now. I will be prioritizing feedback for those who have completed an app and I have not given a review to yet, and any apps that are submitted and completed over the next 2 days.
