Appearence: You see green spiraling tattoos cover a slim face. You look over at a small body cloaked in brown, camouflaged against the surrounding shrubbery. It rushes for you, with what you recognize as a trident in one hand. In one second, that trident is hurling towards you. In Another, it is in your chest. Just one more second, and he stands above you. From here, you see his long pointy ears and dark hair atop a small, thin, almost fragile body. This is your last sight.

Personality: He is quiet. It is not known whether he has little knowledge of the common tongue, or if he prefers the silence. Only the most crucial of questions answered, and only this after a couple moments of quiet thought. Single word answers are preferred. While difficult, friendship is not impossible. In fact, if one does not mind talking to a wall, a bond may easily be formed for Tol enjoys listening to people talk.

What you'd like to get from this game: I want to have an adventurous role playing experience. I hope to make friends and just have an all-around good time.

 

STEP 1: Background

BG1:
Jane harenwell approached a small cabin just to the north of her estate. it was a lovely home, and the owners were the nicest people one would meet on the duke's estate. They were two Gnome who fled their village due to ridicule, but one would never know that. The two gnomes, husband, and wife, contributed to the community around them, always paid the land's tariff, and happily worked the land around them. The edition of their son made them even more so filled with the joys of life. unfortunately, This was the cause of janes visit. Something or other led to that beautifully small cabin being burned down, and an infant left at the edge of a forest.


BG2:
Trees whisper the name Tol. They have for years after that fire. The merchants and travelers who take its paths have premonitions of a small child upon falling asleep under their leaves. The arrival of a seventh autumn since that fire brought upon rumors that the forest was haunted by a child. The red of leaves and their eventual fall gave ways to sightings of a strange gnome Child with glowing green tattoos. These sightings only furthered the rumors and speculations. Of course once seen with a trident, it was assumed this whole forest was possessed by an evil demon.
This was a mere superstition of course until a series of bodies. On numerous occasions, the forest was exercised by holy men, but as there was no demon in the forest, the body count only rose. Of corse, upon matters of the duke, the importance of this lessened as travelers stopped using those trails. Years past and the threat of the forest was again down to foreboding and stories. Until, that is, the duke's son and daughter were found dead at the edge of the forest. This set reason for the Duke to take immediate action in the disposal of this supposed demon. He hired five mercenaries to retrieve whatever was causing the deaths and proceed to burn down the forest. Though not easy to do, in losing one member to the demon, the had in fact subdued and caged the creature, only to find that he was a gnome, no older than 19. he was imprisoned there for seven days.

BG3:
An elf, one of the chore woman on the Harenwell estate. A combination of her ignorance towards his crime, and an irrefutable sense of petty for such a small creature in her lord's dungeons. It took four long months for the poor beautiful elf to discover tol's misdeeds. When confronted, top left. Ashamed, and so thought a word said for the four long months, he took to the roads.

BG4:
His forest mere ashes, Tol took to the roads. Solitude and perseverance got him through the next two decades of his life. What was not spent traveling, was spent map making. Tol found an acute likeness of surveying lands and discovering natural wonders and new cities for himself. He refused to buy maps when he could just spend the next year of his life making one, and often sold his maps to fellow travelers who were lost. Tol was never lost. Only on a new path, or where he was supposed to be.

BG5:
For ten long years Tol travels the roads. He never stayed in one place for too long. He watches the land grow and takes joy in visiting somewhere for the first time, even if he does not display it, he is happy to have come to this famous city of Abhain Calmir.



Step 2: Goals

Goal 1(Tol's): Tol looks for a way to give back to the world the lives he has taken.

Goal 2(personal): I want to develop Tol into this world you have created, and help him find a place where he can be happy.



Step 3: secrets

Secret 1: Tol is the wanted murderer known as the forest devil. he committed his crimes two decades ago and now wishes for some way to reconcile for them.

Secret 2: Tol is unaware that Jeffery Harenwell's wife is the reason he was abandoned at birth.


Step 4: ties
Tied 1 (Friendly): Saria Tynwald, an elf from a small village who helped him escape those who captured Tol and intended to execute him. For months, she provided for the small gnome. If Tol were ever to receive a letter from this most generous elf, he would fulfill whatever task asked of him.

Tied 2 (Friendly): Tomlinson sole, a tavern owner in some town Tol happened to be traveling through. offered Tol a place to live for a couple moths. their bond is purely unspoken, but Tol looks up to this dwarf for is understanding of him. Tol is welcomed to come back to the tavern free of charge whenever he is in need of a place to stay.

Tied 3 (Hostile): Duke of Harenwell and the surrounding countryside, Jeffery Harenwell. Originally owned the sentient forest Tol grew up in. Tol' s tendency to murder almost all who he deemed intruders to the forest arose problems with the group. A necessary trade route ran through the forest, and the gnome wouldn't let but every other caravan through. This led the duke to hire a band of mercenaries who succeeded in capturing Tol and burning down the forest. Tol escaped on his way to execution.



Step 5: MOQU

Quirk 1: Due to his growing up in the solitude of a forest, even though travel and age have wizened him, Tol is not a conversationalist. fact, he has a tendency to avoid confrontation and often chooses not to respond to questions, inquiries, and the likes. especially when not necessary.

Memory 2: The image of killing the dukes two children will always be burned in his head. Every day, he wishes he could take that back, but there is no looking back.

Quirk 3: Tol is quick to anger and aggression despite his attempt to avoid conflict.



Step 6: Background personality (pulled from the handbook)
Personality: I’ve been isolated for so long that I rarely speak, preferring gestures and the occasional grunt.

Bonds: Should my discovery come to light, it could bring ruin to the world.

Ideals: Self-Knowledge. If you know yourself, there’s nothing left to know.

Flaws: I harbor dark, bloodthirsty thoughts that my isolation and meditation failed to quell.



Stop 7: Fears and hopes
Fear 1: Tol is deathly afraid of water, and being on at sea. He has never left the land and won't so much as approach large lakes.

Fear 2: Tol is afraid that the people around him will recognize him as the so-called “forest devil” that he once was.

Hope 1: Someday he may return to Saria Tynwald. if only he could find a new place in the world and amend his past wrongs.

Hope 2: That people around him will realize that he too, has emotions and seeks friends and companions.

 

1: How did you get here?
Tol looks around the small shop conspicuously, Obviously thinking deep, as he felt he had no reason to answer such question. The broad question alone was too vast. He resorted to silently pointing at a red flower adorning one of the shelves.

2: Why have you come?
The gnome now stares at the shop keep blankly. His intelligence was obviously that far below most. He clearly, yet quietly, says “"flowers"”. Hoping the simpleton would understand.

3: When did it all start?
Tol lacks understanding for such a broad question, but assumes the worst. "” before birth”" tol says ashamed of what he was.

4: Who have you met along the way?
Tol thinks briefly of a friendly tavern owner, and an elf from decades ago. Then, of those mercenaries, and of course the two children. Though regret is shown in tol's eyes, he remains silent.

5: What is the point?
At this, Tol is enraged. He throws a generous amount of gold on the counter, takes the flowers and leaves.

6: Where next?
Tol looks back before leaving. This answer is simple. ""the road"".

I wonder if you are open to a custom feat for level 4. I want to change "Crossbow expert" Feat for one that can use. I have this Idea for a feat:

Melee Archer

• You can use your longbow or shortbow as a one handed melee weapon. This attack uses the Dexterity ability modifier. The weapon’s damage die for this attack is a d4, and the attack deals bludgeoning damage.
• Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls when you're using a Longbow or Shortbow.
• When you take the Attack action within 5 feet of a hostile creature and attack with only a Longbow or Shortbow, you can use a bonus action to make a melee attack with one of edges of the bow. This attack uses the Dexterity ability modifier. The weapon’s damage die for this attack is a d4, and the attack deals bludgeoning damage.

To be honest, I would like to be a magic version of Green Arrow, like in the "arrow TV show", he uses the bow to hit their opponents when the approach to melee range or shot to one enemy far away and then hit one opponent that is in melee range!:P

I'm not a the dm but I would suggest an app anyway since deadline is getting close. 5e is more streamlined. I only played a bit of 3.5. When I swi5ched over seemed like less math. New addition is advantage and disadvantage. Roll d20 twice take higher if advantage. Take low if disadvantage.

He nodded at the Gray Dwarves as they passed without glancing at him. If he was found without his papers, there was a good chance he would spend a day or three in a Duergar jail cell, before an official would realize who he was. Then, most likely, the stumpy bastards would determine he was more useful as a contractor than as a slave in the mines, and they would give him back his gear and set him free. But then... there was also the chance that they would decide otherwise. Hjalmar traveled through the foul-smelling Darklake District towards the eastern city gates. He had been tasked with exterminating a group of Derro that had escaped the city and were hiding in the tunnels, harassing merchants coming into and out of Gracklstugh. It was a simple, easy contract, but the Duergar paid well, and as long as he maintained his usefulness to them, he had little to fear. Sometimes, Derro contracts felt like slaughtering kids; insane, homicidal, white-bearded kids, but kids nonetheless. They rarely put up much of a fight, and he usually spent more time chasing the runners down after he put down the bold ones. A job's a job. Upon reaching the gates, Hjalmar handed the Stone Guard his papers and stood quietly while the Dwarf perused the document, pulled out a pen, and made a note and signature at the bottom. He handed the paper back to Hjalmar and said in a deep, gravelly rumble, 'Three days, sunborn,' a veiled insult to denote Hjalmar's surfacer and outsider status. 'If you aren't finished and back in three days, then don't bother coming back at all.' Doing his best to hide his disdain for the guard, Hjalmar replied, 'I'll be done long before that.' The Stone Guard ignored the comment, and staring straight ahead he boomed, 'Open the gate.' Immediately, chains, gears, and ratchets began their cacophony and they were soon joined by the grinding of the heavy door as it scraped across the stone floor. The gate opened just wide enough for a man to fit through, and it stopped. Hjalmar stepped through, and started down the road. Behind him, he heard the booming voice again command, 'Close the gate.' The angry noises began again, and with finality, the gate crashed into its closed position, leaving Hjalmar alone in the quiet darkness. Questions, Goals, Secrets   1: How did you get here? "One job led to the next, and before I know it, I'm old, fat, and ugly." 2: Why have you come? "Haven't been through this area for a few years. Figure there are some new problems need fixing." 3: When did it all start? "Heh... it never started, and it'll never end. It just is what it is." 4: Who have you met along the way? "Oh, I've met assassins dripping with venom, fluffy noblemen with fancy feathers stuck up their arses, soldiers, farmers, heroes, villains. Who haven't I met, is the better question. I haven't met the Queen's poodle... yet." 5: What is the point? "Well... I guess the point is to keep on breathing, keep the reputation flawless, and keep the jobs rolling in. I'm not much of a philosopher." 6: Where next? If I had a gold piece for every time I've asked that question, I'd have approximately 35,892 gold pieces. I'll probably stay in this area for a few weeks or a few years, til all the goblins, orcs, wolves, and bards are dead, then I'll head on down the road to the next town and do the same thing there.   Goals and Secrets Goals: Goal 1: Thinking about the long-term is dangerous for those without any imagination. Hjalmar lives from contract to contract, and he lets his employers or the road under his feet make the big decisions. Goal 2: Hjalmar has entertained the prospect of hiring some help, and expanding his business capabilities, but that would be hard, and Hjalmar is tired these days. Secrets Secret 1: Hjalmar accidentally killed a few guards that he wasn't supposed to kill, but he covered his tracks and it never led back to him. Secret 2: Hjalmar was contracted to find a nobleman's daughter, after she ran off with a bard. The contract was to find and kill the bard, and return the young lady, unharmed. Hjalmar completed the contract flawlessly, but the girl was married to a powerful noble a year later. Outside of the girl's family, Hjalmar is the only one who knows of the stain on her honor, and Hjalmar is very nervous about his knowledge of that very dangerous secret. Further Notes: Hjalmar Nilsson's background story takes place in Gracklstugh, in the Underdark of Faerun. This is just an example of how far he is willing to go in his search for new jobs, and places like Gracklstugh can easily be subbed for any large city in your amazingly detailed and natural-looking world. What you'd like to get from this game:   I would like an immersive story, characters to roleplay with, and a DM who is highly involved with the story and characters.

Well, About the feat, you will have plenty of time to consider it. I said I will use that feat at level 4. If now I can choose crossbow expert feat instead. I read I can use a improvised weapon and I wonder I can use a bow as an improvised weapon (I think the club table will fill the description of a bow as improvised weapon although the the club doesn't have the finesse property!:P

Rowin Name: Rowin Garnkios Race: Human Class: Sorcerer Alignment: Neutral-Good Personality: Detached, serouis, desirous of recognition and accomplishment, somewhat vain Appearance: Rowin a dignified and handsome looking human male of moderate build just shy of 6' tall. His jet black hair is well trimmed while his turquoise eyes are as piercing as they are enchanting. Though not of nobility, he is sometimes mistaken as such, especially when he is dressed in his finery as is his preference.   Background Title: Glassblower Artisans of Renown For six generations the Garnkios's have been known as artisans of considerable skill. It all started with Jedistor Garnkios, their earliest progenitor. He was a true genius, capable of fashioning exquisite works of art, sought after by high nobility. It was he that established the Garnkios's name as artisans of renown. It was he who founded the Garnkios's guild house in the heart of town. His son, Alnidor, however, though he inherited some of his gifts, did not inherit is temperament. Alnidor would work hard during the day, but too often he would spend his evenings and nights drinking and carousing in whatever noble occasion he could find. Exactly how the curse came about is not know but it is believed to have originated with Alndiro. Perhaps it was some ill-advised dalliance with Dryad that left and indelible mark. Perhaps it was something else but whatever it was, it left a mark not only on Alnidor but also on his future progeny. The manifestations, however, were clear. Gifted insights, strange abilities, unexplained foresight and, worst of all, spontaneous magical eruptions without warning. For the serious minded Garnkios's, it was this last aspect that was most distressful as their reputation was on the line. In the end, the were exiled from the family. How long, however, varied. For Alnidor it was his entire life though he was allowed to return on the holidays. These brief visits were enough, however, to ensure his line continued as he ended up having two sons. As so it went with the Garnkios's family. Not all were striken, only some but when one was so striken it was always male. It was noted too that there was often an odd sheen that would accompany the skin. So it was with Rowin. It soon became clear he was "cursed". Even so, he to a deep interest in he work as an artisan, even at a young age. For a while, there was hope. But the power moved in his blood and he would find after several hours of crafting, he would need to go outside and blast a few things with some of his magic. But as the time between blasting increased, he learned about the curse and what might happen. He also learned that his grandfather had somehow managed to calm the fire in the blood a magical pool, somewhere in a dungeon hidden in a mountain range whose location has been lost. Rowin's goal is to find that pool or one/something like it, because where there's one, there must be others, to restore him. Only a group of daring adventurers would be a good match for such a quest. So he seeks companions for his search. 1: How did you get here? Got a ride with a merchant caravan. Gave them a good deal for some goods in exchange. Told them I was searching for some lost antiquities. 2: Why have you come? Seeking out some way to calm the family curse 3: When did it all start? Curse started getting bad about 3 months. That and the restless drive and energy to find a cure. 4: Who have you met along the way? Met a Fighter who suggested some places where I might find some adventurers to hire or perhaps travel with on my search. 5: What is the point? don't understand the question 6: Where next? Plan to scope out settings where adventurers might be found - taverns and such. BG1: He's too pampered easily adjust to adventuring - just talking about the hardships of camping. BG2: Tends to be dismissive of others though he fawns to authority. BG3: When he's attentive, he is very inquisitive and brings to bear all his knowledge and understanding BG4: He highly prizes excellent work, especially artistic crafts though art in general. BG5: When someone does something that earns his respect, he never forgets it. Goal: 1. Find a cure for the curse. 2. I would like to see Rowin become less snobbish and more inquisitive of others around him, especially those less gifted / skilled. Adventuring, fighting for his life and potentially owing his life to other should help with that. Secret 1: Curse as noted. As part of it, he was jealous of a rival artistic who created a beautiful sculpture that was admired by all in the shop. He hoped this rival would slip and fall while carrying it, breaking it, which he did. Rowin later realized it was an unconscious outletting of magic that caused the happen. He feels very ashamed. If his father found out, he would be furious. Secret 2: The story of his grandfather finding a pool was made up. His grandfather died as an adventurer. The curse has never truly left one of those who was so afflicted with it. The other family members know this but don't have the heart to tell Rowin that he will never be able to return back to the shop and just be another artisan. Personality Traits 1. I'm a snob who looks down on those who can't appreciate fine art. 2. I'm well known for my work and I want to make sure everyone appreciates it. I'm always taken aback when people haven't heard of me. Ideals Everyone should be free to pursue his or her own livelihood. Bonds One day I will return to my guild and prove that I am the greatest artisan of them all. Flaws I'm horribly jealous of anyone who can outshine my handiwork. Fear 1: Losing use of his hands to perform his work. He worries about adventuring in particular and the risk of damaging them. Fear 2: Having his work be relegated to that of ordinary, unworthy of note or appreciation - commonplace. Hope 1: Hard work, persistence and deligance really pays off. That no matter what the challenge, it is possible to overcome if one is determined enough. Hope 2: People have mentored him, teaching him much. Sometimes the hard work needed is to find the right mentor. They can always be found if one persists long enough and looks hard enough.
