[D&D-5e] West Marches

I made a placeholder in the application thread.

I already DM two pathfinder games, but I'm new to DnD 5e. Thus, I would like to start as a player for better knowledge about both rules and the 'West March world'.

Heya,

Joined RPGX yesterday, and while browsing the forums waiting for my solo game application to be processed, came across this little gem of a thread! I've been playing D&D 5e for about 18months now, but new to PbP. I'm looking to take a character from lvl 1 onwards and upwards (or downwards if he strays too far from the safe path). Is it cool if I create a character as specified in this thread and apply? Or would you prefer that I first play the Solo Game match and come back then? My character could just hang out in the inn in the meantime if need be.

No previous experience necessary and all are welcome in the West Marches. Start with Read Me First. Don't hesitate to ask questions in the 'Ask a DM' thread.

That said, there is a bit of a learning curve for both PbP and RPGCrossing (aka RPGX). The best two pieces of advice that I can give you are the Quote and Preview Buttons. Quote a post and you can see all of the codes used to create the post. Preview and you can see your post as it would display if submitted.

Yes any published WotC material and Revised Ranger. No other UA or Planeshift Material.

hi I'M interested but new here...also I draw my pc. Will that not work here?
also I have 2 e fighters hand book am I allowed to use it to make my ch or is it only what 5e you have access to?
I have my own dice do I have to use the site dice or would my own work?

I not sure what you mean by Draw my PC. We do require that Players create a character sheet using the tools on this site. See Tools>My Character>New Character Sheet
You will need to use the 5e Rules. Much of which is available through Open Source (e.g., Roll 20).
You will need to use the Dice Roller. There are BBS codes to embed the dice in your posts.

I strongly encourage you to use the New Player Solo Game (NPSG) process to get used to the mechanics of the Site. As well, you might want to read over an adventure or two to get a sense of how Play By Post Adventures work. The link below is to an adventure that is currently being run in the West Marches

as for dice I haven't figured out how to find let alone role here( I do own $100. of gaming dice....)

as to the gaming sheet yeah I don't fully understand it but getting there. still definitely different than my 5e phb.

1) The READ ME FIRST provides an overview of the West Marches Game and also how to create characters. You need to use the stats in the order they are rolled (or reversed). So, the stats rolled, may not match the character you wanted to create. The intent is to push players to think about a type of character that would match the attributes.
2) RPG Crossing Dice Rolling Tutorial
3) Using the RPGCrossing Character Sheet makes it easier for the GM to see what is happening- see Tools>My Character and then the New Character Sheet Section
4) Different than PHB - West Marches allows any official WotC material (not UA, not Planeshift). So, I superset of the PHB is allowed. As well, we allow the Revised Ranger (the only UA allowed).

No. There are a bunch of GMs in the West Marches and we rely on characters being consistent with 5e.

np. just checking I've looked at links at length I see no place to roll... is there a place to do that? nvm found it in a post.

What are your opinions on Plane Shift materials? It sounds like a no from the first post, but I just want to make sure
