Game NameThe Closing Calamity in the Crags - AKA: Adventures in the North
Game SystemDnD 5e
ThemeForgotten Realms
FlavourDungeons and Dragons Classic Adventure type
Plot SummaryA thrown together band of miscreants, takes jobs as needed. You fit that mold currently and will be joining them.

Adventure continues from the Northern Sword coast in the sea port of Luskan in the year 1481. This is where your character is when they join the group.

Need a Healer type first and foremost. This type of character WILL be chosen as one of those accepted into the game. The other character will be chosen by how well they fit the group/game.
Here are some ideas for what kind of healer the group is looking to have join them:
  • A Cleric with the Urchin or Criminal background
  • A Healer with thieves tools proficiency, maybe a Thieves' Guild Chaplain
  • Trickster Cleric with a level of Rogue
  • Bard w/ Criminal background that is heavy on healing

Details
Character Builds:
  • Setting: Forgotten Realms
  • Starting Level: 5
  • Races allowed: Any from sources listed below, plus Aasimar, Goliath, Lizardfolk, and Tabaxi as listed in Chapter 2 of Volo's Guide to Monsters. NO OTHERS! DON'T ASK!
  • Ability Scores: Roll only in the game Forum HERE. NO ROLLING IN THIS FORUM PER SITE RULES.

You can either roll 4d6 drop lowest, rerolling any "ones" if two or more of them appear in this method - but you may only reroll that 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th (if you should be so unlucky to roll 4 natural ones) die. In other words, if 3 of the die are not ones, you can't reroll. An easier way to say this is to say that you should use this rolling method - 4d6kh3mod - as it does the same thing.
Or, you can chose the 27 point buy.
Instead of doing the 27 point buy, in the event that your die roll totals are way below the 27 point buy, you may give up your allotted magic item(s) and take the 27 point buy.
  • Equipment: Standard for first level, then an extra 150 gold to purchase other mundane weapons, armor and equipment. Also, 2 Uncommon magic items. Your choice.
  • Starting Hit points: Max for first two levels, then standard or roll for level 3, 4, & 5.
  • Allowed Sources: Player's HandbookPHB, Dungeon Master's GuideDMG, Xanthar's Guide to EverythingXGtE, Tasha's and Sword Coast Adventurer's GuideSCAG. UA material only at DM's discretion. NO OTHERS! DON'T ASK!
  • Alignments: No CE, LG, or N, all others allowed.
  • Pantheon: Forgotten Realms only
  • Multi-classing: Is allowed but limited to one. Main Class + Secondary Class. Also make it believable/PC-background relevant.
  • Post Rate: Minimum of 1-3/wk as long as the "1" isn't consistent. This is very important as PbP is a LONG process. I am available most days during the week, and some on weekends.
  • Party Size: 5 PCs - In need of two more.
  • Resources: We will use RPGX for most everything including posts, sheets, and rolls. Will also be using Roll20 for maps. You don't need to really know how to use Roll20 so much, except to see enemies and understand the layout and mapping of the "dungeon."
  • Character Sheet: Create a character sheet based on the above information and link it to your application. I want to see how you view the logistics of your character.

InfoWhat will help me be a better DM for you.

Excitement.

How's that? Yes, excitement, or more to the point a "want" to be in the game and genuine interest to get to know your own character, and the other characters in the game; both from a character standpoint and a player standpoint.

What you should include in your character Bio
  • Your typical app; Name, class, race, appearance, 5e background, two personality traits, ideal, bond, flaw.
  • A backstory that includes a few things:
    • Their story, of course
    • Their hometown/origin here in Faerun
    • Why is your character is doing this currently; what is their motivation?
    • What is their over-arching goal? {Their goal does not need to be within the confines of this adventure, this can easily be a stepping stone in their journey. But having a driving force often brings more life into the character. At least that's what I have found to be the case.note}

DEADLINE: Tentative, but for now it is 2/11/23 12 noon CST.

Hmm. Thought surely someone would throw an advert into a game already where characters aren't law abiding citizens. I *know* this is the right crowd.

I think because you used this thread for WDH applications, people might not realize this is a new recruitment. There are also just a lot of really good 5e ads open at the moment.

What would you think of an artificer, with the alchemist specialty and a focus on healing? I have an idea for a character who's somewhere between a sketchy mob doctor and a flat-out mad scientist - the kind of character who lost their medical license for their unethical and deranged experiments, but that lack of ethics also means that they'll patch up all manner of thieves and lowlifes who show up at their back-alley clinic with no questions asked.

Artificer is in a book I don't have, that is not on the list in the advert, so... no.

This is a very cool concept though, so I hope you find a home for it somewhere.

I thought Tasha's was on the list of allowed books?

Although, based on those dice rolls in the other thread, I may just pass. I asked RNGesus whether I should apply, and RNGesus gave me a big middle finger.

You're right. I apologize. I'm tired and it's late for me. It's a Class all it's own in Tasha's. I was thinking the one in Eberron. It is acceptable.

Also, it says the following in the advert for those who roll poorly: "Instead of doing the 27 point buy, in the event that your die roll totals are way below the 27 point buy, you may give up your allotted magic item(s) and take the 27 point buy."

Application
right-aligned image

Name: Remy Haystack
Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Class: Rogue (1), Cleric (Trickster Domain) (4)
Background: Criminal
Traits:
  • Personality Trait 1: Every copper wants to be a silver. Each bet is an opportunity.
  • Personality Trait 2: I'm one of Lady Luck's favored. Anything I try is destined to succeed.
  • Ideal: Bravery: If you want to succeed, you have to take risks. (Chaotic)
  • Bond: I'm loyal to the friend or family member who taught me how to gamble.
  • Flaw: I'm a great gambler. I'm just bad at math and logic.
Appearance: Standing just above three feet tall, and weighing in at a modest 48 pounds, Remy is not the most imposing figure. His fine clothes do little to help with that but unimposing is exactly the impression he strives to give off. He is rarely seen without his "walking stick," which is essentially just his rapier in its scabbard. Aside from that, the only weapons that you'll see on the halfling are a couple of daggers on his belt. His skin is the typical tanned tone that is seen in most halflings from the region, as are his brown hair and green eyes. Around his neck hangs a medallion of a Symbol of Tymoragold coin, face up.

Personality: A hopeless optimist. Remy never doubts that things are going to go his way but when they don't, he can't help but appreciate the balance of it all. As it is with most halflings, he is very genial and open-minded. Despite often coming across as carefree and somewhat chaotic, he is actually a very devout man. He fully believes that without Tymora's grace, he would be dead or in prison somewhere and that it's a coin toss of which would be worse.

I recognize that Sagda in no way constitutes the healing archetype requested and is probably redundant with several party members in terms of broader skill sets. Those redundancies could either be a welcome complement or an unwanted stepping-on-toes situation. I can appreciate both perspectives . I used the 27 Point Buy option for Ability Scores.

Sagda
right-aligned image

Name: Sagda Vohr
Race: Human (Variant)
Class: Rogue 4 (Scout) / Fighter 1
Description:
Sagda is a human woman of average height and build. She favors drab utilitarian clothing that would fade quickly into the crowd of any busy Calimshan marketplace. Her features are typical of those native to the Calim Desert. Several weapons are usually visible on her person, a curved sword and dagger at her hip being the most notable. She wears a headscarf and face mask around her neck that can be pulled up to filter the blowing desert sands - or prying eyes.

Background: Spy
Trait: I try to have a plan for what to do when things go wrong.
Trait: I remember those who’ve done right by me. And those who have done me wrong.
Ideal: I help the people who help me - that’s what keeps us alive.
Bond: I fled the city after crossing an influential person and I’m wanted for it.
Flaw: I'd rather kill someone in their sleep than fight fair.
Feature: Contact

Backstory/Overview and Goals:
Sagda has been working as a freelance blade for hire/spy in and around Calimport. She and her partner recently sold some information about a wealthy local noble who subsequently spent a lot of money and effort to find out who’d exposed him. Sagda’s partner took a payment to betray and deliver her to the noble but was killed in the attempt. She made her way to the docks and called in a favor to jump on the first ship out of town.

Goals: Her immediate goals are self preservation and a change of scenery. She has a few trusted contacts in Calimport but she’s also made enemies. Longer term, payback. There are some people she’d like to take care of, some in a more benevolent manner than others. She remembers a good turn and wants to repay what few kindnesses she was shown when she had nothing. There are also a few scores she wouldn’t mind settling at the end of a blade. She understands that mercenary work is a young woman’s game and she won’t be able to do it forever.

Roleplaying Sample:
The warm bath water felt wonderful. Sagda couldn’t remember when she’d last found the time to bathe, but she made a silent promise to herself to do it more often as she brought her head below the water line. The moment’s respite was regrettably short lived. She resurfaced and saw her partner standing over the tub. She noted the crossbow in his hand and the fat new coin purse on his belt. The math wasn’t difficult. He’d sold her out.

He wore a smug look as he began to relate his own cleverness. How much he’d been paid for the information they'd gathered together, and how much more he would be keeping that now they wouldn’t be splitting the take. How she’d never seen it coming. Sagda was only half listening, focused instead on slowly moving her hand under the pile of clothes that rested on the tubside table. A pile of clothes that concealed her own loaded crossbow.

“How much?” she asked, watching his eyes intently.

Her ploy had the desired effect. Perhaps unconsciously, he glanced down to the coin pouch and in that instant he had lost the contest of wills. Before he realized his folly, a bolt had found its way into the base of his neck.

Sagda leapt from the tub to finish him off but she needn’t have bothered. The life was already leaving his eyes. She stood over him, soapy bathwater dripping off of her to mingle with the blood pooling on the floor. “If you’re going to shoot, shoot,” she admonished, “don’t talk.”

She allowed herself a moment to breathe and collect herself. Why had he betrayed her and why now? A list of names who might have paid him off was alarmingly easy to generate. That would take some time to untangle. Time she probably didn’t have. No matter, she had contacts of her own.

She quickly toweled off, sparing one last glimpse of regret at the tub as she donned her full kit and stooped to relieve the corpse of its coin before climbing out of the window and up onto the roof. From there she headed straight for the docks.

She couldn’t be sure who’d put a price on her head but it seemed sensible to make herself scarce for a time. And there was a certain dock master that owed a favor.

Right, I bet that would help! I think I've done so, please let me know if you still can't see it.
