Plot Summary 'Greetings" Greetings, stranger. I'm not surprised to see your kind here. Many adventurers have traveled this way since the recent troubles began. No doubt you've heard about the tragedy that befell the town of Tristram. Some say that Diablo, the Lord of Terror, walks the world again. I don't know if I believe that, but a Dark Wanderer did travel this route a few weeks ago. He was headed east to the mountain pass guarded by the Rogue Monastery. Maybe it's nothing, but evil seems to have trailed in his wake. You see, shortly after the Wanderer went through, the Monastery's Gates to the pass were closed and strange creatures began ravaging the countryside. Until it's safer outside the camp and the gates are re-opened, I'll remain here with my caravan. I hope to leave for Lut Gholein before the shadow that fell over Tristram consumes us all. If you're still alive then, I'll take you along. This D&D 5e campaign takes place in Sanctuary, the mortal realm between Heaven and Hell and often the setting for their many battles over domination of the mortal races.

Characters Characters For purposes of this adventure, all playable races, classes and sub-classes are allowed. The players will begin at 3rd level, which will allow you to select their subclasses and archetypes. To keep with the theme of Diablo II, the following classes/sub-classes are encouraged: Amazon - Fighter (Arcane Archer) Amazon - Ranger (Amazon Conclave) Assassin - Monk (Way of the Shadow) Assassin - Rogue (Assassin) Barbarian - Barbarian (Path of the Beast) Barbarian - Barbarian (Path of the Totem Warrior) Druid - Druid (Circle of the Moon) Druid - Druid (Circle of Wildfire) Necromancer - Wizard (Necromancer) Paladin - Paladin (Oath of Devotion) Paladin - Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) Sorceress - Sorcerer (Cryomancer) Sorceress - Sorcerer (Electromancer) Sorceress - Sorcerer (Pyromancer) The sorcerer subclasses listed above are a homebrew which can be found here. Please note that the above classes are NOT the only classes from which to choose. You play play any race or class in official D&D material. You are not limited to the classes listed above. Unlike the video game where all the characters are human, any race/sub-race would be available to play.

Beginning the Adventure Beginning the Adventure The entire adventure takes place in Sanctuary, a battleground realm between the forces of Heaven and Hell (and in this case Hell encompasses denizens of both the Nine Hells and the Abyss). For reasons known only to yourself, you make your way to the Rogue Encampment, intent on joining a caravan crossing the desert sands of Aranoch to Lut Gholein. What happens after that is no one’s business but your own. Intending to arrive at the Citadel of the Sightless Eye, the normal embarkation point through the Rogue Pass to Aranoch, you find the land riddled with death and destruction. The caravans have gathered at a place called the Rogue Encampment, a sort of bastion against the evils rising in the land. There, you hear tales of the Prime Evils rising again and rumors of a Dark Wanderer who leaves destruction in its wake. It seems that if you intend to continue your quest, you must find a way to open the caravan routes once again.

Character Application Character Application Pretty basic stuff. Provide the following: List your Character Name/Race/Class/Sub-Class/Background/Alignment. Include personality traits, ideal, bond, and flaw. This way we can get an idea of how you plan to play your character. Include an interesting and viable Backstory. Some of these elements may play a role in the campaign. Describe why character needs to get to Lut Gholein or Kurast (character choice). Feel free to establish pre-game relationships with other PCs (i.e. grew up together, traveled here in the same group and become friends, etc.). Character sheets are not required at this time, but that doesn’t prevent you from creating one if you want. Any official material published by Wizards is allowed, but please let me know the source of the material so I don’t have to go searching through twelve different source books. No Unearthed Arcana and no homebrew material will be allowed. Per Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, the optional custom lineage rules are acceptable. One exception to homebrew. Since there is no official “Mancer” class or subclass in 5e, this will have to be homebrewed. I have reviewed several variations of the various mancer classes and subclasses available in the DMsGuild and on DnDBeyond and have looked for ones that fit the flavor of the Diablo II Sorcerer. Though not perfect, I have come up with my own homebrew version of the following 5e sorcerer subclasses: cryromancer, electomancer, geomancer, and pyromancer.

Starting Play Starting Play I plan on starting out with about 8 players. When the players are selected, we will begin with everyone arriving at the Rogue Encampment and beginning the adventure there. Head on over to the Game Forum for more information about gameplay.

Deadline Deadline for Applications I will accept completed applications submitted before 11:59pm on Feb 6 (server time). I am looking for players who can post 2-3 times per week. I like to keep the action moving, but still give everyone a chance to participate.

Inclusion Inclusion In keeping with Wizard’s and society’s push for inclusion, everyone should respect the GM and other players. Bullying, flaming, degrading, insulting, injecting slurs, and other acts of intolerance against another player will not be allowed. Period. With that, please remember that the character is NOT the player. Some characters are jerks, and some are horribly annoying. Remember that this is essentially a game of storytelling. Although someone’s character might verbally demonstrate annoyance at the wizard for dropping a fireball on them, a player should never criticize another player for their choices. Don’t ever make it personal, and please don’t take it personally. Be respectful. Nothing more to be said.

From the steps of the north varakin guides those who seek. He grew up learning the ways of the land and moving with it. He was a nomad like most of his people gaining and protecting the magic hidden within the hills.

He took his name from carving into the mountain and finding his strength. Though only for short periods of time varakin was given the power of the Giants. This came with a downside though as he was often drunk hiding the visions of fire and brimstone as the demons marched.

Knowing he must do something or fear apocalyptic destruction he ran towards the rogue monastery and the mountain pass.

I won’t deny that I’m attracted to this!
I doubt I’ll be able to take on another game, but I am sorely tempted!
Perhaps I’ll content myself to reading along with the adventure if I end up missing the boat caravan.

Let me clarify something because it seems that a couple of you have posed this same question.

The classes listed above are NOT the only classes you can take. These are simply listed as those that are thematically in keeping with the video game. You can choose any race or class you want. You are not limited to the ones listed above.

And yes, multiclassing is definitely allowed, but again not limited to thematic options only.
