Not at all. You don't need to be familiar at all with the video game series to play in this game. There are just elements which may appeal to fans of the game.

From Volo: "Aasimar bear within their souls the light of the heavens. They are descended from humans with a touch of the power of Mount Celestia, the divine realm of many lawful good deities. Aasimar are born to serve as champions of the gods, their births hailed as blessed events. They are a people of otherworldly visages, with luminous features that reveal their celestial heritage." |

If you want to incorporate the Diablo lore, all humans on the world of Sanctuary are descended from both angels and demons. In fact the world was founded when an angel and demon grew tired of the eternal war between heaven and hell and snuck off to found a world where they could live in secret away from the conflict. They had children, who had children, and now after millennia there are humans, though the angelic and demonic bloodlines are very diluted in most. An aasimar would just be a human whose angelic ancestry was out of balance with their demonic ancestry. While they aren't called aasimar in the Diablo world, such beings do exist.
Though not a player character class in Diablo II, the rogues were a sect in act I. They were pretty much rogues who used a bow. I'm looking at making an amazon built as a polearm using fighter, as everyone always forgets that jabazons exist. |

That is the plan. Rather out of balance, but it will make survivability at lower levels more plausible.

I haven't touched the remaster and don't plan to, but played a LOT of original D2 back in the day. Too much, really. I had a jabazon that was pretty beefy, though I did use thrown poison javelins to soften things up first. D2 was kind of crazy though, friend of mine had a singing barb that was nuts. I'd kind of like to make a necromancer here for old time's sake but necros are such complete garbage in 5e that I just can't bring myself to do it. Oh also the link to the sorceress homebrews doesn't work, or I'd check those out. Loved my hydra farm sorc too.
