Hi secretID!

Posting rate of at least one post per week, two would be awesome. I'm pretty available most week days to keep the game threads updated at stuff. Happy to settle into whatever pace the players set readyy.

For posts, I prefer...mmm... medium length? Not one-liners, but they don't need to be super long either. Enough to make the characters feel real and react to what's going on around them etc. I love collaborative fiction, but the randomality of the adventures leads to a fair bit of improv too Hope that helps!

PS: I should be transparent in that we have 5 players currently enrolled, but secretID... I'd totally be up for adding one more. They could even run into you during their journeying. The party is lacking a Minstrel or Druid particularly. For some reason Minstrel's get overlooked... that is... until someone takes a lot of empathy damage and needs to hear a sweet song to snap them back to reality XD.

Hello!

Wondering if you are still looking? This is interesting and would like to get in on it if secretID hasn't posted back yet, I would take either of those roles. If accepted, would roll to see what fate would decide for me.

If it is filled, ah well, I tried haha.

Hi secretID and The Dark Star!

That is really honorable of you secretID!

If you both want to submit an application please feel free

The Dark Star: we could potentially drop you into the story during the current player's early travels.

secretID: if you're still interested, or think you might have time in the future, please feel free to drop in a quick application, because who knows... through attrition or RL stuff, a spot might come up at some point that suits you nicely!

ApplicationWhat kind of villager would you like to take out into unexplored territory? The available professions are Druid, Fighter, Hunter, Minstrel, Peddler, Rider, Rogue, Sorcerer... but what would your particular "take" or unique flavor on one of these be? I am interested in the available characters, either the Druid or the Minstrel, both seem like fun, someone with a connection to nature, the other to music. Very supportive roles, which I like to play!

How do you like to inject personality into a PC? Via elaborate backstories? Quirkiness or cuteness? With detailed mannerisms or strange use of language? Or something else? For the Druid, I would play off of their quirkiness and mannerisms, since they would be someone who has spent more time in nature than society, they would act more like animals when interacting with others, shy like a cat when approached, aggressive like a chimp when aggravated, sneaky and slithery like a snake when moving in the shadows, when observing their surroundings, they would move their head from one place to another like a bird. Those are a few of the things that they would do when with the party.

For the Minstrel, they would use their colourful use of language to inject personality into the character, they would be as enchanting as they possibly could be and would shower others with many affirmations about them when given the chance. They are a talented musician and would play whenever given down time, and would perform in front of an audience with little need for persuasion. They are story tellers with their songs, and every song they play is meant to move the people that can hear it.

Are you happy to commit to a game which though combat-lite, can be quite brutal and unforgiving when things get "real"? That is what I am looking for in a game, combat doesn't need to be at the forefront, roleplay can be just as fun! Then when there is combat, it has a lot more meaning to it. Unforgiving and brutal makes it more exciting, because it will make me think about each turn and what effects it will have on the game and us the players, both in the short and long term.

What lured you into reading this rather long game advert, and choosing to reply? I have cornered myself to be someone that is only playing 5E D&D games, as comfortable as I am with it and the mechanics, I always see new games come about that I never heard of before, often I will look and pass by, but this one seems to be something that I can grasp and the advert made me even more interested. So since I saw that there was still a chance of getting in, I had to take it.

Is there a piece of IC writing on this site that you'd like to share with us, to show your style? Endless Arena Game, What was that!?! DM'd by me

What's your general availability to post looking like? I am available all days of the week and do try to get on, on the weekends, but that is mostly reserved to spend time with my family.

I'm alright being dropped in!

I’m definitely interested. I’ll go ahead and fill out those application questions as soon as possible.

I’m happy to play one of those 5 after I do a little research.

Right now, without knowing exactly what’s been going on in the game, I’m pretty equally torn between the fighter, rouge and minstrel. I think my “unique” take on the rogue and minstrel is that they would be eager to be on the front lines and do some damage in a fight. And my fighter may be more of a peaceful warrior. Not sure yet.

How do you like to inject personality into a PC? Via elaborate backstories? Quirkiness or cuteness? With detailed mannerisms or strange use of language? Or something else?

I like to pick a few personality traits and play against the usual stereotypes of whatever class I pick. But generally I like to play affable, fun loving, social characters.

Are you happy to commit to a game which though combat-lite, can be quite brutal and unforgiving when things get "real"?

Yes. Love the idea! It means there are some stakes and you have to think a bit before doing. It also makes the highs that much higher. And the lows that much sweeter. Also, that’s reminiscent of my favorite books and tv shows.

What lured you into reading this rather long game advert, and choosing to reply?
I’ve had my eyes on FL for a while and needed an excuse to buy it. And the history you put in here and the blurbs about the characters seemed really evocative.

Is there a piece of IC writing on this site that you'd like to share with us, to show your style?

It’s hard to say. Nothing I’m super proud of yet. Most of the games I was in didn’t really take off or last long enough to really build the character. And most of my experience on the site has been as a GM.

What's your general availability to post looking like?
I can probably post up to 3x a week

Sorry if I'm a little vague with my initial character concepts. I think I'll need a bit of time understanding the world better, and maybe knowing what the other players are playing will help me settle on something.

Application
  • What kind of villager would you like to take out into unexplored territory? The available professions are Druid, Fighter, Hunter, Minstrel, Peddler, Rider, Rogue, Sorcerer... but what would your particular "take" or unique flavor on one of these be?

I've never played in a game where a merchant is a viable character, so maybe Peddler! She'd be rather stingy when it comes to coin and the like, but part of her earnings would be going towards paying for medicine for her sick father or something along those lines. Maybe she tries to join this group that will clearly help her on the fast track to earning more silver than whatever failing business she currently runs. I'm also open to playing a Minstrel either on the run from some bad people or with a bounty on her head as she hopes to tag along with the group and get away.

  • How do you like to inject personality into a PC? Via elaborate backstories? Quirkiness or cuteness? With detailed mannerisms or strange use of language? Or something else?

I usually lean into a character's flaws to help accentuate their personality. I like the idea of having a character with opposing traits in their personality as well. If I play a peddler, she could definitely be on the cutesy side for the most part, but the moment silver comes into the play, she's cutthroat and abbrasive. I try to make it a personal rule that if I'm playing someone that leans towards rude, she'll quickly get over that little quirk with her party members since being mean to other players gets tiresome (unless the other player wants that back and forth to be their relationship). Besides, the innkeeper serving watered down swill is a far more deserving target.

  • Are you happy to commit to a game which though combat-lite, can be quite brutal and unforgiving when things get "real"?

I've played in a similar roleplaying situation before, and in my opinion it makes death that much more impactful when it's a real threat. I prefer it to not happen of course, but 5e's way of handling "near death" can feel a little video-gamey.

  • What lured you into reading this rather long game advert, and choosing to reply?

I enjoy hostile worlds! I'm so tired of Forgotten Realms! I mostly just like the idea of trying something new, and I think I'd be interested in trying to include the more domestic details of roleplaying. It's something different for me, and I hope to improve myself as a roleplayer through it.

  • Is there a piece of IC writing on this site that you'd like to share with us, to show your style?

    https://www.rpgcrossing.com/showthre...97#post8823297

It's been a couple of years since I've played on here so I hope I picked a good example.

  • What's your general availability to post looking like?

At the very least I should be available once per day, though some days I could definitely post multiple times.

Hi 97mg, I'm... well, charmed into joining the game!

The selection thing, though, I'm not comfortable with... So if there aren't enough applicants, I'd like to travel through the Forbidden Lands with you (and psuedenim, and the others). Else, we can meet at some other stories, right?

To experience a rough, tough world in a graceful way, to reflect that in light, yet depth evocative writing - I find the concept both challenging and attractive. I am not sure about the character... I could play many roles with as much enthusiasm - It depends more on how the team gets along, on how we have fun together writing.

Is there a type you all think would be interesting to have around? Alone, I would go with a troubled character who seeks to find peace inside and to connect with a higher purpose beyond the world's trials and predicaments... Perhaps adding some dream experience flavor to outer events would be nice - as in choosing myth over reality, or doubting the nature of it all - out of built-up disappointment...

The profession seems less important: It could be anything the group needs more - though magic wielders could be a problem, given the Quickstarter doesn't cover their art... The character's origin, story, and temporary goal that brings them to Greyvale - these too seem of minor importance: I'd handle them briefly - except for that Shame and Pride parts, perhaps... unless you have any preferences I would build around.

With regard to injecting personality... I'm not sure: I guess it depends on the character - on how I feel interpreting it, as well as on the overall tone of the story. A balanced approach - where you manage to weave in more than one style and cover many bits of the character in a relatively short space - seems the ideal to aim at. I really don't know myself that well as a writer... Perhaps you can make an idea from these past performances: C, B, A, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 are, in reverse order, the posts of the only group game I've been in so far; I also have two short stories at RPGX - here and here, one long story - (to skim through), and a story fragment that might be relevant - here.

I usually need a few days to put together each post, so a rate of at most twice a week is all I can handle. If I take part in other games, it may go down to once a week... Hopefully, my availability would match that of the group, so I would stay involved - not just tag along...

I posted my application here, then reconsidered. I think it's best if I refrain from joining another game.
