Application Part 1: About the Player I very much enjoy this website! Been posting here for years. Very familiar with D&D 5e. I even run the Tower of Mage Newbie game for new players here! My style is Empowering Storyteller, which basically means I'm a big fan of narrative and I really want to help other characters achieve their goals! My inspiration for playstyle is probably Critical Role (she would want to be the PIKE of the group1st season), One Piece and Pokemon Manga, and the Frozen movies/shorts. The character background is actually inspired by a short story I read set in Legend of the Five Rings. Part 2: About the Character "Together we can save the world!" Name: Vesper Highwind Character concept summary : Female half-elf Wizard age 21; Backstory: Vesper's father is an Archmage of great noble status in a large kingdom, but he's never had time for his daughter. Her inability to learn or perform quickly enough only gave him more excuses to neglect her. So in an effort to prove herself and gain attention, she attempted to repair what she thought was a damaged magical artifact. The results actually destroyed the item, which enraged her father. He let her know that she was a disgrace and had brought shame on his name for the last time. Then he disavowed her, casting her out so that she would never trouble him again. Personality: Every party needs a kind innocent arcane novice that they can corrupt depend on. Vesper is a bright light that loves people and tries to bring out the best in everyone, but she is clearly a fish out of water. She is a shy introvert in public, but among her friends she always has a warm word of encouragement and is always up for trying new things. And almost everything is new here on the coast, since she comes from norther snow country. Character Relationship: Most likely relationship would be with Komak. She would love to learn from someone that is a devout worshiper of the goddess of magic. Plus she is probably naïve enough to believe that he is much more clever than he actually is, despite any evidence to the contrary. Could also see her looking to Mayve like a role model: a full-blooded elf that struggles with an overbearing family.   "Hello there. I'm Vesper. Nice to meet you! I guess we'll be protecting this cart together. Want to be friends?" Her reflection looks just as eager and cheerful as she does, but it is unable to agree unless she does first. Still, after a few more practice tries, Vesper believes she has the new greeting down. Vesper checked herself in the mirror, which had a crack and was a little grimy to give her a perfect reflection. But the surface was too large for her to clean with magic, and the results were enough to satisfy her. At least makeup was something she'd been able to do right. The world appreciated beauty, especially the people living in it. The more beautiful you were, the more you were appreciated. And she desperately wanted to make a good first impression. She took a sip of water, which was plain and cold. It was part of her ritual for practicing her arcane arts. Rituals were an important step of preparation, whether it be a political convention or an arcane spell. It no longer mattered to Vesper that she did not know where her powers came from. Using her practiced magic, she gave her finger a lick and placed it in the water. There was no noticeable change to the appearance, aroma, or temperature of the water. But she took another drink, and the taste of the liquid was now a rich wine, one that she had tasted in her father's home what seemed like ages ago and decided was her favorite despite not knowing its name. Vesper was only able to change one sense at a time for now. She hoped to be able to do more in the future, if she ever managed to improve. But now was not the time to focus on what she could not do. She focused instead on the taste of the water…and then the wine. It had been plain…now it was delicious. She had been plain…now she was exotic. Her speaking was common…now it was sophisticated. She had been a poor wondering homeless disgrace of a daughter and a failure as an arcane apprentice...but now she was an Adventurer! The ritual complete, she put away her cup. There was one last check to make sure she looked her best, and then she set off for the Robilar Adventuring Inc and the first job of her new life. Waiting in line, she tried to make friends with the Kenku in front of her but he only repeated words and that made her feel very awkward. So she remained silent until it was her turn. “Okay, so this one here is aaaaaah protecting a cart on the way to Phandalin,” the woman at the desk says as she checks her copy of the contract. “You’ll be working with a party of other adventurers. If the terms here are acceptable, please write your name here--” she points with her pen, and Vesper signs her name quickly. “...and sign here.” She points again and then passes the pen over, and Vesper signs again. “Any questions?” Vesper has a million, but she has learned that people in authority don't like questions. So she shakes her head and goes where she's been told to.

Part 1: About the Player Hello, Irl my name's Brendon, I've been casually playing D&D with my friends off and on for roughly 10 years but as odd as it is I started with 2e. When I was fairly young a family member of mine handed down their collection of 2e books, and I still have them today. This account has existed for likely over a year but has seen very little use to be honest. For all intents and purposes you should consider me a new member who hasn't participated in a pbp game yet. Irl I am dming my first 5e game with my friends on Saturdays, starting on the 30th. We'll be going through CoS. With that being said I've had a really certain craving to participate as a player, as over the years I've been designated dm. When it comes to inspiration I draw from I'm not completely sure, but I do quite enjoy R.A. Salvatore's work, I've begun making my way through the Lord of the Rings, the Elric Saga, and I do really enjoy anime. From childhood to adulthood anywhere from Pokemon, Naruto, to Vinland Saga or Berserk.

Part 2: Character Info Name: Shrill Louse. Character Concept: Male Goblin Ranger, Age 12, 3 foot 4, 50 lb Backstory: Shrill Louse couldn't understand why the bounty hunters pursued him, sure his mothers grandfather probably made stew from the fingers and toes of people just like them, but Shrill Louse never did anything wrong. He couldn't imagine doing something like that, in fact calling the idea to mind quite sent his lunch lurching as he dashed through the thick foliage. Perhaps it was for these reasons that he was inevitably shunned by the rest of his cavern tribe. Shrill Louse couldn't help but wonder if one day the people wouldn't react to him in such a way. He was different, after all, in his mind. More concerned with hygiene, as far as goblins go, exceptionally skilled with handling animals, some of them much larger than himself, and he held a strong understanding of the balance of nature. Why was he exiled? Was it because he insisted everyone seal their chamberpots? Shrill Louse doesnt know, but one day he hopes to spread his name across the lands. Personality: Shrill Louse cares deeply about the health of the ecosystem around him, he is generally honest, even brutally so to his detriment in interactions with anything of below average or higher intelligence. His favorite meal on the road is rabbit and wild carrot stew, but his tribe often complained that it was far too overcooked to his dismay. He believes he doesnt live long enough for petty revenge, selfishness, or similar feelings. He doesn't like slavery and values freedom with high regard whether it's an animal or demihuman. Shrill Louse loves a good prank He doesn't want jewels or gold, not that much anyways, but renown and a place to belong are high priorities. Character Connections: Shrill Louse would likely get along with most characters and would overtime grow very fond of other more civilized people who shared a passion for nature's balance. He sees the benefit of the tribe, and after his exile often feels as if alone his name may never find its place in a bards tale. He finds people of different expertise intriguing but is made very uncomfortable by necromantic or psionic magic. He'd likely appreciate others who had skill in bows or crossbows and would seek competition with them, and would always be intrigued by the culinary habits of the other races.

Long term I was considering a beastmaster of sorts whether a warg, dire rat, ect as well as wielding a light crossbow mainly and a short spear.

As far as PC relations go, Komak is a highly sociable little guy and will get along with anyone who isn't outright mean to him. That being said:
Vesper Highwind: Komak feels a kindred soul in someone like Vesper, a person called to 'the magics' but not necessarily talented at doing it like people are expected to do. Also Komak would go through so many hoops to try to cheer up Vesper when she's down about her family situation.
Mayve: Komak would find their personalities quite similar and compatible. He also remembers when he was easily scared (like, he's not now?) and will do what he can to improve her morale.
Beast: Komak would find Beast interesting because of their draconic connections.
Alestair: Komak would probably annoy the ever-loving heck out of Alestair because of the bevy of questions he has for him about his patron and the relationship they have and how it affects their magics.
Caerlin: For all the same reasons as Beast, but even more so because he has lots of the magics!

Briar's Application Part #1: About Me! Hi there! I'm briar, resident neo-hippie punk rock otaku. I see a few faces I know here and have played with at one time or another, so I hope that tells you about how long I've been around!   What do you like or dislike in a game? Oh wow, so much! I'm a bit of a social player more than a mechanical one; I do like to build characters, yes, but moreso I enjoy the intertwining relationships in all their complexities that form between a party of adventurers! Comradery, rivalry, romance, you name it! I live for games where we can all find common ground and really connect ^_^ That and everyone here is so talented in storytelling, I can't help but want to listen and be a part of that narrative! I also am something of a 'creative engineer', too, and I tend to enjoy coming up with interesting solutions to problems rather than just the straight-forward 'kill it until its dead' or 'punch it until it breaks' sort of thing. So I thrive with a party/DM that is willing to entertain my nonsense :3 Dislikes? I would say games that are kind of like one-trick ponies. All the focus is on one thing. I like to explore, y'know? Experience lots of things! I hope you're ready for me to try to get to know every single NPC within sight How did you get started gaming? I've been playing RPGs for about 20 years, but I've been RPing a lot longer than that. I started out in Yahoo! Chats many many years ago. It was...rough consider how young I was back then being exposed to so many different experiences, but I think I came out alright! And it just became a thing ever since. Anime and manga, definitely. I'm a big fan of isekai, slice of life, action, fantasy, ect. My favorite all-time game is Grandia, too, so if that helps? This is a character that I have played before, but like so many, the game died, so I never really got to develop her. I'd really love the chance to do so again! Petra Name: Patchouli "Petra" Lockheart Concept Summary: A 24-year-old outcast who has lived the majority of her adult life moving from place to place, Patchouli, or sometimes known as Petra was born cursed with a mysterious aura that makes people feel uncomfortable around her, a fact that has haunted her steps for as long as she can remember. Backstory: Petra ran away from a loving family in order to rid them of her curse, striking out on her own in her teenage years and taking up herbalism in order to support herself, as well as use her healing knowledge to try and bridge the gap of misunderstanding between herself and the people around her. This...failed miserably, and despite all the good she tries to do, she always eventually finds herself chased away by everyone she tries to help and being called a 'witch' ...or worse. Personality: A sweet, kind young woman whose only wish is to make others smile, she chooses to see the best in everyone, and hopes one day that she'll be able to find the one thing that has always eluded her: friends who will stick by her, no matter what. She is also incredibly gullible and naïve in her own way, and will almost never suspect others of ill intent, even if they have shown it to her before. To Petra, there is no such thing as an evil person; rather, there are good reasons that drive some to do bad things, and that in the end, everyone deserves to be heard, to be forgiven, and to be redeemed. To that end, she is deeply nurturing, often taking on a caretaking 'matronly' persona, and will always take every opportunity to try and proffer peace and understanding between even embittered rivals. That said, she is also a deeply pained young woman, and despite wanting to share the burdens of others, does not easily share her own.   With hurried steps, Patchouli walked daintily through the great southern gates of the city, enamored by the number of buildings and people that fill the streets between them. The sights and sounds of the bustling municipality were all very much new to the girl who had been raised in the outlying farming and fishing villages of the hinterlands, and she drew them in, reveling in the fact that she was able to walk so freely here. Along with the vibrant blue head scarf that held back part of her hair and bounced with every step she took, she'd taken careful measures to look her best today, and thus wore a soft pink rose as a hair ornament. There was nothing to do about her clothing--the forest and countryside lifestyle rarely allowed for her garment to remain perfectly intact, but her coat, at least, she had managed to press and clean into shape. Yet despite all of her best attempts to look the part of a presentable and refined young woman, it was all for naught next to the childlike wonder she displays upon every new discovery along the way, from something as simple as a neat, floral brass pin, to the elegant architecture of the cityscape. "I hope this is the right way..." she said somewhat absently to herself, not sure what to make of some the things she saw, "But at least...everyone here is too distracted to notice me." This was true; though some cast a look her way, no one approached her, which made her feel as though she might be able to pass through this place un-accosted to her destination. She was here at the behest of a man who had found her most recent hovel, and seemed to imply that he had had some urgent task that required her arts. That they'd known about her at all she simply chalked up to the tales people told of the 'miracle healing witch' of the Old Dale forest--they really were quite interesting stories, albeit badly over embellished--though how on earth they'd managed to find her cabin out in the midst of the woods was still a mystery to her. Once pointed in the proper direction, however, she finally stood before a rather elaborate building that had all the markings of some sort of civil structure, and Petra felt a sense of unease come over her. This place looked so terribly official that she suddenly felt quite out of her element, and had to visibly step back and crane her neck to see all the way to the highest spire. Entering, she glanced first around the room, her eyes tracing the sharp, pointed angles, and the heavy carved stone walls. The deeper she had been drawn into the city, the more it felt like its walls were closing in around her, and this place provided the capstone to that sense of claustrophobia. She gripped at her own arms a little to try and whelm her discomfort, and quietly asked after the man who had called her there, only to be led to a chamber deeper in where she found the stranger. She winced a little, when he spoke, his booming, official-sounding voice grating hard on the girl's sensitive demeanor. It wasn't at all unlike the rasp of an angry townsman who many times before now had used such a voice to send her away again. But the man didn't, an in fact, he gravely explained the situation to her with hardly any trouble, revealing her reason for being here. "I see..." she murmured, "So there is an illness in the city, and your daughter has fallen prey to it. I'm so very sorry." The man thanked her, though Petra could see in his downcast eyes that he was gripped with worry, to which she responded by lifting a hand and gently resting it atop his. It did not quite have the desired affect, for the man withdrew swiftly and cleared his throat. Petra, too, took a step back, closing her fingers over her chest. "My apologies, that was rude of me," she said, bowing her head. After a moment, she went on, "But...if I can do anything, then I shall try." When presented with the bag of gold, she looked at it curiously. "Oh dear..." she said, her voice somewhat melancholy. Payment. It wasn't as though she'd never used money before, but it was rare for her to possess more than a handful of copper or silver coins at any given time. Plus, the fact that she was being paid for this made it all sound so much more...irrevocable, and she was beginning to wonder if she should have just sent the man in the forest away. "What on earth could anyone ever need so much gold for...?" Nevertheless, it wasn't about the money. A little girl was suffering, and Petra only needed that thought to compel her into action, though at the same time, the weight of so many...was this really within her power to undo? And...how many would perish in the time it took her to do so? 'I have to try...Doing this will help lots of people,' she reassured herself. Petra awoke, hearing the clamor of a ship's bell. She found herself staring off into the deep blue of the sea, lurching hither and thither as the ship glided over the waves. Looking south, she could see only the faint outline of a landmass in the distance, and the sharp, angled towers of the city that she had just left. Or rather, the city that she had cast out from. In the end, it was the same: she had overstayed herself, and before long, people had begun to think that she was the culprit. The 'witch' who caused the plague in the first place. Even when she had presented what she hoped would be the cure to the malady, none would take it for fear of being poisoned further. She gaze fell to the deck, her feet shifting uncomfortably as she sat on the small crate that would be her home for the next week, and sighed. 'Will I ever be able to stop running...?' she asked herself, closing her eyes again, the image of a pale, lifeless hand slowly falling out of her own as a single tear fell from cheek and into the sea... Petra is most likely going to be a healer class, and I think her natural affinity for nature makes her a good candidate for a druid (Circle of Stars or Circle of the Shepherd seem like they would be good fits), but I can see her being a cleric (Life domain. Maybe Peace, but I know this one can be kinda broken) as well. Artificer is also a maybe--but I'm trying not to make her Sophie xD As far as connections, she would have few permanent friendships, mostly a lot of acquaintances that she has met and done business with. She knows a lot of people, but not a lot of people remember her. She is a healer and herbalist by trade, so this assures that she will likely meets people from all echelons of society. Its perfectly likely that anyone seeking medical services may very well have had a run-in with her, and might have attempted to get to know her, but would likely have had a hard time finding her thereafter. If she were to have friends, though, it would be with people who are incredibly stubborn, outgoing and willful (Tia) as well as those she shares something in common with, such as those who have a kinship with nature and animals (Beast), or those who have ever felt shunned or outcast by others (Vesper, Edward/Evelyn, Mayve, Hammer). She is also a very empathic soul, and is drawn to the wounds of others, whether they can be seen in their scars or only viewed in their eyes. And while a part of her desperately hopes that being there for others might some day relieve her of her own loneliness, in truth, she just has a soft heart, and can't bear to see others hurting.

Part 1 About you as a player:   Introduction: Hello, my name is chocoladevla and at/on the Crossing for years. Not sure how I started, I remember my first game being hosted at RPol and it was asked to create a character sheet at Mythweavers. So when that game was over, we all parted our ways I played some characters at Mythweavers and somehow I discovered the Crossing. And you know how it ends, I absolutely love it here; there is always a warm welcome and friendliness is a virtue. When time passed I started guiding new players in the solo games, after that I was asked to help out amongst the reds. It still is a place that I love, I am grateful to be able to be here. Quirks and hobbies; - I am Dutch, got loads of kids, play and own lots of board games (and demonstrate/teach, guide games at CON's and anyone going to the biggest international Boardgame convention Spiel Essen in October? Name: Eadlynn Maygan Goleuddydd Character concept Eadlynn is a very religious dwarfette, devoted to Sarenre, the Goddess who teaches temperance and patience in all things. Compassion and peace are her greatest virtues, something that Eadlynn desires to live by as her moral compass. She has been in the temple a lot during her youth and has received approval to explore the world. Alignment: Good Background: Acolyte Traits: - I see omens in everything, and have a poem to every omen - I admire and am intrigued by evil, there is always a 'good' within Ideal: Let me tell you about my faith through my words, sentences, and art Bond: I want to prove them wrong, I am good![ Flaw: it is hard to accept the no being given, you might be hiding a yes Personality: always positive, open, willing to connect on a deeper level with everybody, wants to share her faith to anyone who would listen AND to anyone not interested. (because she knows deep in her heart that person needs to hear what she has to say) Character Relationship: Well, I have to confess Eadlynn is my guilty pleasure character, she would fit in anywhere and she is determined to find the sun in every drop of rain. This means she will work hard to like everyone, provide feedback when/if (not) needed, and embrace her new friends unconditionally. I have read through all the cool applications and I can see her interact with everyone, seriously. Example post: Before it all started... It was safe to say these past couple of days had been a... learning experience. The doors being slammed in her face had been a challenge to positivitize but Eadlynn knew that every time a door closed a window opened. She was so tired and at the same time eager to get her feelings out in a poem but she feared it would be slightly too dark. Better to ignore negativity and embrace the... possibilities? Her cat twirled around her hairy legs and Eadlynn looked at the tattoo of a bright sun on the palm of her hand. 'Be positive, it is one of the fundamental forces of the universe' she thought, 'maybe becoming a cleric wasn't the hardest path, but spreading my faith, my calling could be my reason to engage with the people who need me'. She grabbed her backpack, whistled to her cat, and started walking, she was done for the day and needed a place to stay. An unmarked squat building, it was clearly begging for her input and presence! Maybe it could become a Temple of Faith? She started reading the papers stuck at the window and when she read that there were requests to find lost people her heart skipped a beat due to pure happiness. She could find a home for those lost people, a spiritual home where every need would be taken care of by the powerful words of prayer. She opened the door "here am I to share my faith with all of you" she declared with a loud voice. She could not see the reactions because her silly cat had followed her and was almost squashed by the door closing behind her. "Oops, my mistake, haha" she giggled nervously while picking up her cat. She was ready to sign up after the Kenku and joined the line, she could not understand the poor bird but her smile would be the translation needed for a deep and warm friendship. “Okay, so this one here is aaaaaah protecting a cart on the way to Phandalin,” "Oh, yes ofcourse" Eadlynn replied to the woman, she was a bit startled by the Kenku leaving without a warm conversation but shrugged her shoulders, she was looking forward to this adventure, she would be the light in this adventuring group, she could make the change towards the good, it would be pure bliss. "Sign here? ~ Eadlynn Maygan Goleuddydd ~ done. Questions, yes, yes, can I take my cat? I have a little basket for it if that would be a strict rule, no problem. And, do you think there would be adventurers in need of guidance? Have you seen the need in their potential hollow eyes? " Eadlynn was sure she had gained her own quest, and no one could convince her otherwise....

Part 1 About this player: I've been on RPGX for 5-ish years now. I started playing RPGs with Pathfinder, then moved to 5e as it was easier to introduce to new players. I then became the forever DM in my circle of RL friends. RPGX is the only place where I can be a player. So THANK YOU RPGX!! My play style is light and easy-going, with highjacks and jokes packed in. I have only 1 serious character and I love her to her to bits. I don't think any book or show has influenced by characters and play style, but I love Malazan! Most of my characters start as just a small concept and then I like to grow them in the game rather than flesh out a big backstory in the application.

Part 2 Concept: A monster that has been newly introduced to civility. Name: Chupacabra Race: Bugbear Background: Scholar Class: Monk (Or possibly druid depending on party balance) Alignment: NG Personality: Chupa is a beast; he walks on his haunches and knuckles, he eats raw and off the floor, he grooms...no he doesn't groom. Yet behind the monster is a curious creature that just wants to learn and fit in. His go to problem solver is indeed his fists, but in the wilds where it's strike first to survive, there is little need for anything else. He is learning the common tongue and how civilised interactions work, although his foremost thought would be clobber the highwaymen than to charm them. Yet despite his wildness, Chupa his a loyal and compassionate friend. Character relationships: Chupacabra will be looking for someone to teach him about civilisation. His education so far has come from a homeless guy, so he'll likely think anyone of the party is a worthy teacher. His education so far has just come from a homeless man, so there is still lots to learn. Backstory: Chupacabra (or Chupa) has seen a lot of the world. Deep caves and mines, great lakes that span to the horizon, jungles where everything is a deathtrap. Yes, the world was a wonderful place, full of natural delights. Chupa wondered from place to place, usually in search of food or shelter, the simple creature that he was. He was weary though, of the ones that walked upright. They usually came to slaughter the beasts of the forests, or to fell the trees. Whenever they came, Chupra ran. One day, curiosity got the better of him and he followed the uprighters that came to fell Silverbark trees. Out of the forest, through the valley, across the plains, Chupa stalked them from a far as they rode on their wooden creature pulled by horses. Eventually they came to something Chupa had never seen, a city! The number of uprighters was countless. It was like an ant colony that sprawled across the land instead of under the earth. It was....incredible! Chupra crouched low and ventured forth for a better look at this new wonder. "I'd keep ma head down if I was you. They don't like Bugbears in these parts." Chupra hadn't noticed the uprighter sat against the wall and he had no idea what he was saying. "Don't speak common then? Aye, well best ya follow me before ya get skewered." the uprighter, who appeared to be much dirtier than the other uprighters he had seen, motioned for Chupa to follow him. The uprighter lead him to a tiny lean-to in a dark alleyway, which sat mostly in a dirty puddle of sour smelling water. "Seamus" The Uprighter said pointing to himself. "Chupacabra" replied the Bugbear. It was the start of a beautiful friendship. Seamus stole a book of the bugbear language and soon started to teach Chupa the common tongue. He also taught him all about the ways of civilised life; money, relationships, housing, shops, laws. And in return the bugbear hunted and shared with the uprighter. A few months later, Chupa returned to the lean-to after a hunt to find Seamus in a nasty fit of coughing. The man had explained about diseases and medicine, but it was still a concept that Chupa was struggling with. "We need money, friend. Can't hunt or steal the likes of what I need." Chupacabra thought long and hard. ...Can't hunt it, can't steal it. Need money..."I know. I get money. I buy medicine." I could be incorrect, but that's how I understood it.


I'd like to point out that Mayve is supposed to be a petulant young teenager who thinks no harm could come to her and that she knows everything better than everyone else. So when things like "I don't want to be with smelly old dwarves anyway" come up, that's more of a way for her to cover her pain and in a childish way save face.

I figure a few smacks over the head by reality should wizen her up quite a bit .

Perhaps they met on the trail at a communal camp site? It seems plausible that adventurers and merchants would share campgrounds between villages and towns so as to share the burden of overnight security. It could well be they met at one of these communal campgrounds and exchanged stories, though most likely Mayve's story would have been riddled with fibs.

Or, if you are of the more outlawish, the two may have shared a cell one night. Mayve wouldn't have done anything so bad as to be imprisoned a long time, but certainly enough to spend a night or two in prison.

Also to clarify, I definitely don't expect every character to have relationships with every other character. My plan is to start everyone off on day 2-3 of traveling together, so the "relationship" could also be first impressions or assumptions of other PCs. Mostly I'm hoping to get everyone thinking about how their characters would interact with a little more depth than "we work together so we have to be nice."

I had my post talking about relationships with other players not necessarily saying they're concrete, but positing reasons we'd know each other because, like in real life, consent between relationships is important!
